Corgi Gift Set No. 36. Renovation of an Oldsmobile Toronado with a boat.

Corgi produced gift set number 36 from 1967 to 1971. Currently, set no. 36 is very sought after among collectors and its prices well exceed $200. I created my set from parts I bought at flea markets. The last thing I managed to buy was a boat, which is a very rare item on the secondary market. My Oldsmobil Toronado was missing many parts and other original parts were damaged. Repairing and replenishing these things took up a lot of my time with this renovation. In the video I show how, for example, to make parts if they are not available on the secondary market. To complete the whole thing, I also made the box in which this set was sold. I replaced the Styrofoam insert with an insert made of white polyurethane foam, which serves its purpose equally well. Another excellent job! On the real car, the headlight covers were body color... it was front-wheel drive, the open headlights didn't ruin its appearance and you had to get into the trunk to get the spare tire...

Den Toronado besitze ich auch schon lange, leider ohne Boot und natürlich auch ohne Schachtel. Das Auto und vor Allem das Boot sind wieder unglaublich schön geworden. Die Figuren machen es richtig lebendig. 😃👍

Maestro, this was another ordeal restoration...times 2! The die-cast Toronado with broken A Pillar and bumper problems...AND the boat(albeit rare) was no help at all. The part production for both car and boat was a decided chore. I was concerned when the blue paint went on it seemed globby. But after the clearcoat was applied, all sins were forgiven. After the very specialized box was fabricated, the "Reveal Spin:" was just glorious! Truly yummy! Who are the freeloaders in the boat?? I was kind of surprised the rear tail lights and turn indicator lamps weren't painted silver, with red/yellow varnish applied after. Pawel, I remember as a kid seeing Toronados on the street for many years. My Dad went to the GM Dealership for my Grandfather, and came home with the Dealership plastic models of the Toronado for my brother Doug and I. It was an amazingly detailed and lovely thing. Thank you for producing such a wonderful, and challenging restoration! Best, Stephen

Hi James. It was definitely a windshield from some car model, previously made of a larger amount of Pet material, but unfortunately I can't say which car model I used it from. If I remember correctly, it could have been a windshield from a Ford Thunderbird convertible by Corgi.
