- Join me on a walking tour in Bruges (Belgium), one of Europe's most beautiful cities.
During the Middle Ages, Bruges was one of the commercial and cultural metropolis of Europe, and home to famous artists such as Jan van Eyck and Hans Memling. Because of its exceptionally well preserved gothic architecture, the entire city center of Bruges was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000.
The cobble stone streets, majestic city squares, world-class museums and many cultural activities make Bruges a unique travel destination that charms millions of visitors each year. Because of its many canals, Bruges is often referred to as the Venice of the North.

We're locals, living a short distance from Brugge. We've never seen this city this way before. Fantastic videography capturing the beauty of Brugge and especially so with almost no tourists and without any tourist boats at all the canals act as mirrors to double our viewing pleasure. My only visit to Bruges was in 1974 when I met an Australian lady who became my wife. It brought back pleasant memories. I must make a return visit.
Hey, that was the year I visited it for the first time, while stationed in Nurnberg, Germany and sent TDY to Mons!
Hmm maybe not. I knew Brugge in the late 70’s and it was wonderful. Friends of mine visited in 2018 and while they found it beautiful they said the experience was spoiled by overwhelming crowds because it’s now one of the top tourist hot spots of Europe. While I could go back at any time I prefer to remember it the way it was. Of course this might not concern you, just a bit of advice 😊😊
@@paullewis2413 I think it is the same anywhere in the world we visited in the 70s. Trips now unbelievable could be done such as UK to Australia “ Overland” . Good to remember things as they were. No chance of us being allowed to leave the country until mid next year.

I took the train from Brussels to visit Bruges in 1999. It was as quiet, peaceful & beautiful as this scenic video. There were no crowds & it really felt as if time stood still from hundreds of centuries ago.
Because of Covid it is quiet. But normally it is overflowing with tourists. Unbelievably busy normally. Also in the canals there are many tourist boats, now it is quiet ans zen. A unique moment recording this video.
I cried watching this. Unexpected emotions.

A lot better photos than what I have. It rained when I was there. Good to see it on the screen. Beautiful city. I remember all the lace there.

I saw this video a few days ago...and today I visited the city!
When I first visited Belgium 20 yrs ago,I felt like I was in a fairy tale,even though it was raining aaaall the time!! I spent 2 weeks in wonderful,charming Namur as a volunteer in an international workcamp, digging the ground on a medieval city fortress,enjoying a beer outside on rainy evenings.....crazy!!! I miss that so much.
I had an opportunity to visit Bruges in 1999 while in the travel business. It is indeed one of the most beautiful cities I had ever seen. We rented bikes and toured around and also took a canal boat trip. Wonderful time in a lovely city!
The flowers whisper and the trees shout.
Life is buried in the sway of the leaves.
The wind carries the language 😌 I can only admire the amazing scenery.👍
We stayed in Bruges for a few days and how every corner brings back incredible sweet memories. Thx for reminding me how my love blossoms with my partner in this romantic medieval city. Bruges is an incredible place .. I went in December 2017 and spent a day ... we traveled from Brussels which was where we spent Christmas. Everyone says that to see Bruges you have to visit it one day. But I was left wanting much more. and I hope to go in the future for 2 or 3 days and enjoy the city quietly. Greetings from Gran Canaria

I've been in Bruges 2 years ago, it is a stunningly beautiful city. I especially liked the places near the water where swans swim - such a peaceful feeling! Doctor, all your videos are perfect - your choice of subjects, your shooting skills, your choice of music. Talented person is talented everywhere :)
So lovely to ”go back” to Belgium. I lived and studied there almost 20yrs (!) ago and visited quite a few cities. The country has a really good network of both lit highways and traintracks that it’s a pleasure to explore all the historic cities. I wish you’ll upload more cities yet, such as Antwerp, Binche, Liège and of course Brussels. Thank you anyway for your videos, they are always such high quality and informative. When there is no tourist in front of the camera, it feels like watching the scenes from a movie with the background set in the Medieval Age. Very beautiful place, very peaceful as well.
Excellent video. I lived in the Netherlands in the 90s and Brugge was my favorite city for a weekend retreat. I visited as much as I could. Thanks for the memories. I will return.

Me and my Mrs used to go to Bruges twice a year. We can not go anymore because P&O ferries have stopped doing the trip. Absolutely gutted. We miss it so much.
Bruges looks very peaceful in the sunshine and well looked after.
Bruges crafts some of the most luxurious lace in the world. Pop into one of the lace shops dotted around the city to buy a lace souvenir, or better yet visit the Lace Centre to learn more about the history of lace in Bruges.
A very nice video of a beautiful city. Brings back lots of memories. One remark though, the worlds first stock exchange is the one in Amsterdam!

It is, although I visited some years ago and the city was full of tourists, most Japanese
Because of Covid, normally Bruges is overwhelmed with tourists every day.
in 2018 even saw 8.3 million visitors

@@SAZTravel The other aspect about Bruge and the images shown in the video is that it isn't one of those places you can cover ina few hours and be done. Bruge is a comparatively large city and you will need to spend a few days there to get the benefit of the day ambience, evening and night. To fit that all in, needs time.

That for me was an utterly delightful trip down memory lane! As I used to visit Brugge in the early to late 60's and then back in the eighties too! I have ben up the belfry and played the Carillion (I hope I have spelt that correctly? ) You see, I only ever head the names verbally and never saw the spelling as a young lad of 6-9 you see! Thank you for that delightful trip! I do hope you have got ride of the virus by now??

Was lucky to have lived in Brussels for four years. Made a lot of trips to Bruges and Ghent. Both are beautiful!

I love Brugges, I used to visit every year. There is a fabulous Hans Memling museum and a flea market.

The belfry sounds like it has a full carillon inside of it. We have one near me called Bok Tower in Lake Wales, Florida. It sits on the highest point in Florida and the tower is made of pink marble. It's a favorite spot of mine, as well as for other artists and patrons looking to relax in the beautiful gardens that are surrounded by orange groves
Such a gorgeous city. While it’s a shame that we’re unable to travel to such a city, this video looks all the more impressive without the tourists everywhere. Its like you’ve taken a step back in time.
