@@worlore1651 M4 Sherman crews suffered a 2-5% casualty rate during ww2 M4 Shermans may have been inferior on the "tank trifecta" in contrast to German tanks but usually had the advantage of better visibility, safety, reliability and general ergonomics(especially with the crew doors) that made them known as rugged and effective machines by their crews.

The biggest two issues when dealing with hostile armor was at first the 75mm was used because they at the time thought it was "good enough" it wasn't and later the lack of HVAP for the 76mm for dealing with the cats. Combine that with survivability, reliability, ease of logistics and ease of use and the Sherman is the closest we have ever seen to a true world beater tank. It really isn't a world beater but it is the closest.

At 2:48 a hand grabs the soldier and pulls him back behind the tank. This saved his life as the panther was just about to fire. If it would have shot with him standing next to the muzzle break, the blast deflected by the blast would have probably killed him. Amazing untold WW2 story. Put a widely considered "weak" tank like the Sherman in the hands of a capable tanker, and it can even become a killing machine. Imagine how many more kills he will get if they gave him a Sherman Firefly 😁

ANOTHER Texan on this channel? I'm from Texas and a combat veteran. My pride . . . it's crying for me. The last 6 videos I've seen pop up are about Texans.
Many people are going to disagree with me but this is why I think the Sherman was one of the good tanks in WW2. It didn't have strong armor of the Tiger or the devastating effect of the 88mm but it had the best survival rates for any tank in the war. It may have cost 4 out of 5 Shermans to kill a tiger but you still had a good chance of a surviving crew. If War Daddy and his were in a Panther or Tiger they would have caused a lot of damage but once their tank got destroyed that would mean most likely an entire experienced crew would be gone and you would have to recruit an unexperienced to go up against veteran tankers.

The US military still takes 17-year-olds with special permission and a high school diploma.
When I was deployed during OEF 8, there was a USN EOD who's call sign was 'Soul Stealer.' Second best call sign to 'War Daddy.'
That launch over the berm with the guitar backing track, with mud falling from the tank tracks was so cool.

If War Daddy and his were in a Panther or Tiger they would have caused a lot of damage but once their tank got destroyed that would mean most likely an entire experienced crew would be gone and you would have to recruit an unexperienced to go up against veteran tankers.
