the shoutout to Suzuki at the beginning was sweet and tells how far the Bachstiftung has come if it had such esteemed director as guest. I'm wondering if Lutz felt especially energised by his presence because the first (great) choir bristles with excitement, and it's very easy to make it howling, which doesn't happen here. I love the contrast between the powerful choir and chorale with the chiselled and very difficult arias. The soloists perform very well, although Poplutz occasionally veils his voice and that makes him feel a bit 'tired', which is not my favourite effect. Julia Doyle is impeccable. The orchestra is great as usual -love the oboes in the first aria. A good choice of tempos (I might have done with a smidgen less rushed first choir but that's details) round up a delightful performance.

Georg Poplutz's rendition of the greatest ever Bach -aria alongside Patrick Hendrichs's interjections with the eschatological Johannes Passion Choral can only be summarised thus :
    Ministry to the fellow-human.
Perhaps the answer to the question
"Why a trumpet "- because it will signal the Resurrection .
".....He will wipe away every tear from their eyes , and death shall be no more ...." (Rev. 21:4)

@herrickinman9303 Many thanks for your appreciation - however , I feel this forum is not for people's linguistic skills , but for Bach and Bach Stiftung- eschatological is Greek , denoting the prophecies considered by the Church not fulfilled yet , like the Resurrection , referred to in the St. John Passion's final chorale.

    Bleibt Ihr Engel... translation:

    Guide me on both sides
So that my foot may not slip.
But teach me to sing also here [on earth]

In the hands of Rudolf Lutz c. s. BWV 19 becomes a true feast. In the opening choir the sparks are flying, the end of the bass recitativo and the aria for tenor are warm blankets for everyone who feels cold. The bravoure and the virtuosity of the soprano show that she is not afraid of anything or anyone and the trumpet in the tenor aria is not made by men, but dropped from heaven, perhaps on purpose.. I would say to Rudolf Lutz and all his friends: "Bleibt, ihr Engel, bleibt"!

Bravo tutti!. This was a short, but difficult canrata. The opening chorus was excellent, and full of energy, and enthusiasm. No introduction made starting a challenge. The Soprano had a crisp and clear melodious tone and a beautiful line. I’d love to hear her with more solo work perhaps from Cantata #51 , or the Passions. Even though the Bass had little to sing, his recit. set the tone for the triumphant resolution between God, Satan, and Man. I very much enjoyed the Tenor aria. It was one of the most difficult Bach Tenor arias I’ve ever heard. The breath control for the extremely long phrases, and the vocal line with seemingly unending bel canto like melismas were beautifully sung. Such a pleasure to hear this work.

In case you didn't notice, the conductor counted them in, making starting no challenge to these professional musicians, even in the absence of an "introduction," whatever that means.

The opening chorus of Cantata 19, as played here, stands out as one of the best I have heard. IThe final choral was majestic as well.I liked that the violin and wind instument players were not sitting; perhaps this contributing to their outstanding performance. The interpretation of the tenor was deep and spiritual. In contrast, the interpretation of the soprano sounded more "secular" to my ears (sometimes I think the choice of children or young singers give to the Cantatas a purity and a delicacy they deserve). The playing of the 2 oboes was fresh and invigorating. Overall, a great-sounding ensemble and a very satisfying result.

    Cantata BWV 19
    Es erhub sich ein Streit
    English Translation in Interlinear Format
Cantata BWV 19 - There arose a strife
Event: Cantata for the Feast of St Michael and All Angels
    Readings: Epistle: Revelations 12: 7-12; Gospel: Matthew 18: 1-11
Text: Christian Friedrich Henrici (Picander) (Mvts. 1-6); Anon (Mvt. 7)
Chorale Texts: Herzlich lieb hab' ich dich, o Herr | Freu dich sehr, o meine Seele
    1
    Chorus [S, A, T, B]
Tromba I-III, Timpani, Violino I e Oboe I all' unisono, Violino II e Oboe II all' unisono, Viola e Taille all' unisono, Continuo
    Es erhub sich ein Streit.
    There arose a strife.
Die rasende Schlange, der höllische Drache
The raging serpent, the dragon of hell
Stürmt wider den Himmel mit wütender Rache.
storms against heaven with furious revenge.
    Aber Michael bezwingt,
    But Michael conquers,
Und die Schar, die ihn umringt
and the host which surrounds him
    Stürzt des Satans Grausamkeit.
    overthrows Satan's cruelty.
    2
    Recitative [Bass]
    Continuo
    Gottlob! der Drache liegt.
God be praised! the dragon lies vanquished.
    Der unerschaffne Michael
    The uncreated Michael
    Und seiner Engel
    and his host of angels
    Heer hat ihn besiegt.
    have conquered him.
Dort liegt er in der Finsternis
There he lies in the darkness
    Mit Ketten angebunden,
    bound with chains,
Und seine Stätte wird nicht mehr
and his place is no more
    Im Himmelreich gefunden.
found in the kingdom of heaven.
    Wir stehen sicher und gewiß,
    We stand safe and sure,
Und wenn uns gleich sein Brüllen schrecket,
and even when his roar terrifies us,
So wird doch unser Leib und Seel
then still our body and soul
    Mit Engeln zugedecket.
    are protected by angels.
    3
    Aria [Soprano]
    Oboe d'amore I/II, Continuo
    Gott schickt uns Mahanaim zu;
    God sends us to Mahanaim;
    Wir stehen oder gehen,
    whether we stand or go,
So können wir in sichrer Ruh
we can in safety and peace
    Vor unsern Feinden stehen.
    stand before our enemies.
Es lagert sich, so nah als fern,
    Encamped both near and far
Um uns der Engel unsers Herrn
around us is the angel of our Lord
    Mit Feuer, Roß und Wagen.
    with fire, horse and chariot.
    4
    Recitative [Tenor]
    Violino I/II, Viola, Continuo
Was ist der schnöde Mensch, das Erdenkind?
What is despicable humanity, the child of earth?
    Ein Wurm, ein armer Sünder.
    A worm, a wretched sinner.
Schaut, wie ihn selbst der Herr so lieb gewinnt,
See, how the Lord himself falls in love with him,
Daß er ihn nicht zu niedrig schätzet
that he does not value him too lowly
    Und ihm die Himmelskinder,
and for him places the children of heaven
    Der Seraphinen Heer,
    the host of Seraphim
    Zu seiner Wacht und Gegenwehr,
to watch and fight on his behalf,
    Zu seinem Schutze setzet.
    to protect him.
    5
    Aria (and Chorale) [Tenor]
    Tromba, Violino I/II, Viola, Continuo
Bleibt, ihr Engel, bleibt bei mir!
Stay, you angels, stay with me!
    Führet mich auf beiden Seiten,
    Guide me on both sides,
Daß mein Fuß nicht möge gleiten!
so that my foot may not slip!
    Aber lernt mich auch allhier
    But teach me even here
    Euer großes Heilig singen
to sing of your great holiness
Und dem Höchsten Dank zu singen!
and to sing thanks to the Highest!
    6
    Recitative [Soprano]
    Continuo
    Laßt uns das Angesicht
    Let us love the sight
    Der frommen Engel lieben
    of the holy angels
Und sie mit unsern Sünden nicht
and let us not with our sins
    Vertreiben oder auch betrüben.
drive them away or even grieve them.
So sein sie, wenn der Herr gebeut,
So they may be, when the Lord bids us
    Der Welt Valet zu sagen,
to say farewell to the world,
    Zu unsrer Seligkeit
    Auch unser Himmelswagen.
our heavenly chariot also to our life of bliss.
    7
    Chorale [S, A, T, B]
Oboe I e Violino I col Soprano, Oboe II e Violino II coll'Alto, Taille e Viola col Tenore, Tromba I-III, Timpani, Continuo
Laß dein' Engel mit mir fahren
Let your angel travel with me
    Auf Elias Wagen rot
    on Elias' red chariot
    Und mein Seele wohl bewahren,
    and preserve my soul
    Wie Lazrum nach seinem Tod.
    like Lazarus after his death.
Laß sie ruhn in deinem Schoß,
Let my soul rest in your bosom
Erfüll sie mit Freud und Trost,
fill it with joy and consolation
Bis der Leib kommt aus der Erde
until my body comes from the earth
    Und mit ihr vereinigt werde.
    and is united with it.

And, to think that not one positive comment about Bach's Cantatas has come down to us
from any one at any of the four Leipzig churches during Bach's tenure there as Thomaskantor.
The town Council complained frequently and was not very supportive of their Kantor.
A fitting metaphor would be the throwing of pearls before swine.

      Two remarks:
      1) contemporary judgements are not necessarily right, especially not those from people with political power.
      2) Thanks to Felix Mendelssohn we know about Bach. He was a sort angel sent by haven. Badly treated by people with political power later in history.

This Is simply not true. There are different positive comments about Bach's cantatas and vocal works, from the time spent in Weimar to Leipzig. The Town council had all their reasons not to be Happy with Bach's work as a cantor, since he was really "incorriggible" and didn't respect all his duties

Not true. Picander, the librettist of the St. Matthew Passion and Bach's frequent collaborator in Leipzig, published a cycle of cantata poetry and in the preface wrote, "I flatter myself that the lack of poetic charm may be compensated for by the loveliness of the music of our incomparable Capellmeister Bach."
