  • You can drive yourself crazy trying to get an axle dialed in if you don't understand that they're not made perfectly parallel.

Ive had a few stubs replaced by a mobile axle repair company. They used new stubs and have never had a problem. Great video and info.

I’m early in my machining career, most of my time as a programmer and fixture design on primarily 3 axis DN vertical machines. These videos are so valuable for me to see some of the one off/set up tricks and best practices that I don’t really run into in high volume production. Great stuff

Bro, that is the best attitude to have as a machinist. Even though there is a world of difference between manual and cnc machines. The basic Engineering knowledge of manual machining is invaluable. I don't use cnc machines at all. Did my trade as a toolmaker entirely on manual machines. We learned about insert tooling from you guys too. Goes both ways. 🤙❤

Nice to see a video that isn’t a vevor sales pitch. Thank you. Good information.

Your description made a lot more sense once I saw (near the end of the video) the full frame image of your setup and realized you were indeed working on the drive axle housing and not the axle itself. I kept waiting for the axle setup to appear… Keep up the great job. Your videos are tip top!

There is a national chain road service called Axle surgeons. They remove old and weld in new spindle tubes all mobile. Also brake spiders.

as a kid I say the axle was bent on a small trailer and I pulled it and put it in my press and straightened it out. Little did I know.

I have not done one since the 1980's Had to off set it a fair bit in the lathe for that very reason . I remember having to ask a truck mechanic if it was normal & he said , thats how they are supposed to be . Good one .

You and I would get on well. It would actually be cool to work together. You work with an almost identical mindset to myself and I think that makes me really love your channel! You probably already know, but if you want to stop chips or swarf getting into the steady rest rollers, I cut a piece of cardboard around the shaft to use as a shield. Just hold it on the frame of the rest with a simple spring clamp! Trick from my days of turning rail axles.😊❤

Would have been a better video with the job in the machine. But you cannot stop production & some machining methods need to be not to detailed to protect your business. Difficult to choose a process & display while conducting a business venture. You have a good voice for broadcasting. Maybe mix it up with a white board reason why it is done that way. Like a present of compound of 10 degrees to gain a more accurate measurement. I'm sure you have many in your book of ideas.
