This only covered grinding wheels for angle grinders. Once you start manufacturing wheels for surface grinders, cylindrical grinders and centerless grinders, things get a whole lot more complicated. As for all of you commenting about dimensions, a good tradesman will know how to work with all measuring systems.
They do blow up. They are actually very easy to snap, and when you’re grinding through solid steel, if you have it at the slightest angle, they’ll snap. I had one today snap on me, and it is terrifying
+bogdog999 If you're still around - is 'reinforced friction' a specific type of cut-off disk? I mean, is it different from a diamond-surfaced steel wheel?
This is a LOOOOOGGGGG time discussion...Not too disimilar to what would happen f you tried to communicate between the Earth and a spaceship a few light years away... ;-) Diamond wheels and most "stone" wheels remove material by cutting tiny pieces of metal away, the sharp bits of grit acting like teeth. A friction cut-off wheel uses heat to remove material. Friction from high speed contact actually melts the metal and carries it away.
If they work by friction rather than abrasion, why do they contain abrasives? I did a bit of research into this friction cutting process, and couldn't find anything that looks like the cut-off disks you put in an angle grinder.
Again, if the discs in the video use friction, why do they contain abrasives? i think you should probably do your own research and then let me know when you've found what you're talking about, because I haven't been able to.
Very interesting. One thing that must be mentioned is that a grinder blade does have an expire date that is punched in on the inner circle... all people that works with grinders must always use safety first. I learned the hard way
I'm so glad all this was in metric. I could finally understand what was being said especially the pressure. Love it being related to car weight too. Excellent video.
Not really, I spent many years in a fabrication shop and the only limits we had on the wheels was how small we could go before the angle grinder its self got in the way. The labels burn off/wear off in a second when they contact metal. The newer ones don't even have paper labels. Manufacturers such as Flexovit paint the entire top side of the disc.
@@gokhanozden2347 Doesnt help me much. If you want to know the specific ratios of the ingredients I dont know. Percentages should be on the manufacturer's websites. I was half-wondering about this. I assume it's a cultural thing. I can see how you'd call these grinding wheels if you'd never heard of them and used them. Cut off wheels I think diamond-surfaced steel.
Looks like this company is Canadian. By law we have to put all information in English and in French. The informations probably don’t fit in one, hence the two labels,

Its an American show with an American presenter I wish they would use imperial measures...I don't immediately think in metric even though I know I should...
I hate to break it to you but there are only literally 3 countries that do NOT use the metric system. USA, Liberia, and Myanma. I'm not sure what the other two use so us here in the states could be the only ones using SAE measurements still. Everything will be in metric. It's actually easier to use too, if you take the time to learn how to count to ten.

it's simple because 10 ml = 1 cm. 100 centimeters = 1 meter. 1000 meters = 1 kilometer. but for imperial 16 parts = 1 in. 12 ins = 1ft. 3ft = 1 yard. 1760 yards = 1 mile. In metric everything is multiples of ten, for imperial everything is weird 16,12,3,1760. if I wanna know how many cm are in 265.23km I can solve it just by looking at it, cuz I just have to move the decimal point 1 cm = 100 000 cm therefore 265.23km = 26523000cm
Sometimes it pisses me off that they use metric measurements, then imperial. I am indifferent to either, but I wish they'd stick to one or another. It's just an OCD thing. That said, all these were cut off wheels, not grinding wheels.. I wanted to see how they make bench grinder wheels, seeing as how they usually have no reinforcement. I imagine the same as these, but still, I wish they were a little more diverse.
Wheels have to be written in Metric as Europe and most of the world only does the Metric system. that said almost all grinding wheels are an English (Imperial) size just converted to metric. Bench wheels are a vitrified product that is a different process. Mixing is similar but wheels have to be pressed with very heavy presses. they are then fired at a much higher temperature in a modern kiln, for allot longer than cutting wheels. I have seen this process first hand at the St Gobain Norton factory here in the UK.
@@coventrygrindersltd Imperial IS metric. The national (and international) standards are all in metric which is then converted to imperial via a factor.
