Ancient subtropical forests were removed for new development . Retaining walls and building foundations can not compare to an established tropical rain forest.

the rain is also something that's needed, sorry for those who lost their loved ones, but when it comes to road and buildings we as south African's need to be honest and moving forward we need to build with natural disasters in mind.

KZN is in a sorry sorry state regarding services. What's sad is that the built up areas that are having flooding and non catastrophic earth failures like on the coasts lines, could most likely have had half or less damage if the KZN local government had been maintaining and servicing the drainage system like they should. Sutcliffe was an awful mayor, but at least he had the city serviced before he stole the left over money. This is a prime case for the NPA to investigate why there has been such a huge systems failure. There wasn't even this much flood damage in the floods in the 80s from what I understand, yet those floods lastly for 3 weeks.

ANC has not done Maintenace work on aging I frastructure. When we were in Zimbali, the same road collapsex in rainy season 2019/20. This aging infrastructure needs deeper pilons for the big rain coming

The floods have revealed the real problem South Africa has. Deep rotting corruption! The destruction witnessed is as a result of poor planning and neglect by officials mandated to oversee that the magnitude of such was reduced.
