- Excellent progressive jazz by Dizzy Gillespie with Charlie Parker, Sidney 'Big Sid' Catlett, Al Haig, and Curly Russell. Recorded in 1945 and here released on a GUILD label 78 rpm record. Enjoy!
Sometimes I forget just how awesome Dizzy is, and then I hear him play again. Thank you lord for him and Charlie.
Stone classic, worth every pop & crackle, back then this was rebel music, now the foundations of just about all modern forms of music. HEROS
I certainly did, oh man, were they great!!!!!! Recorded i.e. played 74 years ago! I started listening to bebop some 60 years ago, I still love it and cannot sit still!!
Me and my brother heard this song years ago on the radio and we thought it was so weird and funny and we FINALLY found it today lmao
Big Sid was the only drummer who could play this gig and then go back and play just as well behind Louis Armstrong! Both he and his peer, Dave Tough, died at 41.
When I first head this I thought they were singing "salty nuts" haha timeless
Brickstun Ram XD
Salt Peanuts
Dizzy Gillespie (trumpet, vocals) Charlie Parker (alto saxophone) Al Haig (piano) Curly Russell (bass) Sidney Catlett (drums) Sarah Vaughan (vocals -3)
Big Band
I really like the drum solo in this piece
Was lucky enough to see Dizzy play twice
I'm listening to this song cause after watching The Cable Guy 1996 great classic movie
great big sid catlett drumming, what a talent.
The Cable Guy movie brought me here. The bathroom fight scene between Jim Carey and Owen Wilson.
2003MARSSKILLS lol
Oh wow
“Suck it! Suck the air! You know from this angle you look just like Dizzy Gillespie!”
I think I see smoke coming off the disk. Fantastic.
I really don't understand the people who get so upset with kids who come in and announce their ages. They are expressing their connection with music that is older than their grandparents. I appreciate it. Where does the anger come from??
I was in Chicago- never heard this before- thank you
somehow I knew this song and requested it - Truck Parm- then he sat with us and told us all kind of stories
love fast 4 tunes like this, great recording.
What a lovely little track
Brilliant be bop
How in the hell did you get you EVER obtain a copy of this that is this divine??!! Cheers! Thanks!
From the record he is playing.
divne
Sometimes I just have to hear this, and it make my world go round
emphasis on the PEA, not the nuts
Dannygast do NOT accent the nut 😂
I think that this is the record that Harry Belafonte made-(paid!) some dee jay on a ship to play again and again, coming home from WWII! It’s so beautiful: ☺️
Bird & Diz!!!!
Makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck! Oh, so good.
I remember Jimmy Carter trying to sing this.
45年以上前に買った一枚・・懐かしい
I love Bird and Diz. There is also a great vocal version of this by The Pointer Sisters.
“SQUEEDAP!......SQUIDDLYAPP!”
"Eeeeeeeeee... salt peanuts, salt peanuts"
GREAT shot of the record spinning!!! :D
As a jazz fan this is my favorite jazz song and is why I'm a jazz fan!
Parker giving those notes; true strong music genius.

People rarely take advantage of all my services!
Wow, never heard that version before!!! Outrageous!
SALT PEANUTS! SALT PEANUTS!
What bird does with his short turn has changed the world, I love dizzys flash, but bird was just bird
It comes from deep insecurity and past pain. Like most negative behavior that develop in the mind.
Bird and Diz incredible of course, but that piano makes this my favorite version!
Basquiat used to paint to awesome tunes. I am soon to be inspired.
3 people like almonds.
I remember nutty squirrels edition on the record
For someone who played as wild as Diz, he sure had a lot of poise.
Reading "Off the Road" by Carolyn Cassady brought me here...
SALT PEANUTS SALT PEANUTS!
Big Sid kicks ass...
The Cable Guy (and to a lesser extent St. Paul and the Broken Bones) brought me here.
ufff me fascina!
amazing.we love it!!
Classic beauty!
nice presentation!
This song reminds me of the cable guy lol
Jean michel basquiat - radiant child 🎨
I have to lessen this music for my musical teacher

“Stay away from robin, she’s taken. SHE BOP. Skittly BOP” lmao

I remember I attacked my best pals, girlfriends new friend in a bathroom to this
We talkin' 'bout BOP!!
Big Sid driving it!
Quarter note =312 BPM !!!
This is so nice a fast....totally cookin' but Bird is so relaXed !!!
Charile Parker!!! geniale. Grazie!!
WOW
CABLE GUY lol
wow
👍
salt peter, salt peter
diz dawg
Not a good song to dance to, (bebop has virtually no dancability) but sounds PERFECT for a Bebop-themed fight scene in a movie.
that's a great idea man
I'm thinking fight club or probably one of those silent films from the Cotton Club days
You can slam dance to it. It's the first Hardcore Punk song, ever.
It was used during the bathroom fight scene in The Cable Guy.

I like Brazilian buts too of course with salt :D
it's half a tone sharp due to noise editing, right? Original should be in F concert.
You and others have mentioned the incorrect speed. How do you know this?
BeBop IS Jazz!
Does anyone know the time signature of this.
this is in fast 4/4/time...4 quarter notes per measure...
MM=312 BPM
question: though i know not the best option, but can i play this with standard vinyl needles? or i damage record or needle? thanks
Riccardo play 78's with a special 78rpm needle. If you play them with a regular microgroove stylus you'll damage both your 78 and stylus.
No dancing!
The beginning of BeBop!

i am allergic to peanuts
Hannah Wolter No one cares.
I own this same record. Your turntable is playing at about 86 rpm. Way too fast.
Perhaps you might upload a 'correct' version. I don't doubt you. I'm am requesting because it would be wonderful to hear.
I KNEW IT WAS SHARP
Yeah it's almost a half step sharp
@StrawberryJungle seventeen cookies for you would you like a medal as well
@StrawberryJungle ok well good because its so annoying. the amount of ignorance on youtube is just amazing. lol
A pity the record is detuned, around a half tone up
Get a jazz injection!
@rickyroboto you clearly dont know what bebop is man
