OMG, I didn’t expect this to work for me but I can actually play my scale better than I could ten minutes ago, it’s not perfect yet but it’s getting there. THANK YOU SO MUCH I THOUGHT I WAS DOOMED FOR MY PLAYING TEST 🙏
I played a scale before and after watching and going through the practices you shared. I cannot believe how much better the second scale sounded and felt. This was SO much more helpful than I expected. Thank you!
I've had braces off for 1,5 years, since getting m off I played with a very small part of my upper lip wich isn't ideal. Haven't played for a few months now because of moving/going to college and I hope this will help cause I cant even play a scale anymore despite playing for 12 years now and I'm getting frustrated when playing
Give yourself some time and remember that it is a process. Your body is trying to find a comfortable set for the mouthpiece. Don't be afraid to try a slightly bigger mouthpiece if you aren't getting enough lip in the cup. Or... Maybe a different rim, one more rounded to let you adjust your settings more comfortably. Keep at it and you will find what works. It's a journey, not a race.😊All the best.
Wow, thank you for this, my band teacher did recommend to search these videos up, but question with pencil technique on the mouthpiece of a trumpet, do you still do it when you have braces on?
Yes. Doing the pencil technique is very helpful for transitioning from your braces. I have students with and without braces use it to help with their efficiency and range. Hope this helps.
My kiddo just got his braces off a couple weeks ago. His range has lessened and he cannot hit higher notes. He is beginning to get so frustrated as he has All Region pass offs to complete ASAP. He continues trying, but is there anything else you can recommend?
I know it can be frustrating. It's just a change in the set up to horn and relearning some fine motor skills. I have another video on dealing with braces with techniques that I have my students use when they get the braces off as well. th-cam.com/video/YwaQyg6gXro/w-d-xo.html I also have a play list on upper register embouchure and technique. th-cam.com/play/PLsH6Jysj3NaJXfJEZOd_VJqwvAN9Izmde.html Hope there is something there that can help.
A couple of my students have used large chop sticks when they couldn't find the right resistance from a pencil. A wooden pencil should work, just as long as it doesn't totally block the bore.
The pencil is placed in the mouthpiece just enough to hold the mouthpiece and gently cover the hole. You don't want to shut out the air completely. Just close it up enough to give it some resistance to play against. Hope that helps.

So glad to hear that it worked for you 😊
I’ve got to play 5 songs on my trumpet in 2 hours, and I got my braces off an hour ago, I’m helpless.
Be patient, it's just a process. You still know how to play, just have to get the feeling of fine motor skills.
Just don't give up.👍
Thank you so much this helped a lot!!!!!

Ive had braces on for 4 years and I just got them off. I cannot play very high whatsoever and I don't know how to get used it. Hopefully this help.
It takes time to get the fine motor skills back. Just be patient and don't over blow and you will be fine. Good luck.

What would be a good pencil for a trombone mouthpiece?
A couple of my students have used large chop sticks when they couldn't find the right resistance from a pencil.
A wooden pencil should work, just as long as it doesn't totally block the bore.
I have to be able to play well until tomorrow and I tried playing today but I didn't get far at all and I just saw this video. What do I do
It's a process and takes a little time.
Be patient with it and you will have it.
How tight should the pencil be in the mouth piece
