As a spaniard, I quite like the way italian sounds, it is very similar to spanish in sentence structure, and there are many similar words. However, I don't like french at all, I studied it in high school and it is a very impractical language, apart from having a very awkward pronunciation.

As a Spanish knowing how interconnected Spanish, Italian. French and Portuguese based on the Latin roots I would say we and Italians I feel are the closest as even without taking ANY classes for Italian I can get like 20% of what they say lol. Know we have Italian in the family from my cousin as we live in good ol MURICA she found a hubby in Italy, so thats great!

To me Spanish is the most romantic of the three, but Japanese is the most romantic language overall.

This is so funny, I never heard that name before, and I studied Latin in school. I guess it's a culture thing, in France we call it Latin language, and I would assume other Europeans do this as well. Especially Italians since Rome still exist xD
That being said, romance and romantic are the same, both come from 'roman', but it really is more a short for the 'roman language' than it is 'roman empire'. The roman language, ie Latin, was the main written language so it's become with time a synonym for 'story', 'adventure' and so on. Someone writing novels in French is a 'romancier'.
