In Psalm 68 the ark ascends to zion and in Ephesians it portrays Jesus ascending and bringing men with him. I think that goes in the direction of we are God's gift to Chirst as does the sheep given to Christ and he loses none of them.
I'm fine with celebrating the light of the world on the darkest night of the year. He is the light singing and shining in the darkness. I see a spectacular God ordained journey to freedom and coming home in the Psalms. In the end of book 4 of the Psalms which poetically is walking in the wilderness has a strange ending. A long Psalm 106 the end on the unfaithfulness of man (emphasis Israel) Alienated from God, Israel just poster childing for rest of us. far from where he should be. We have a worshiping nature and misplace our worship so often. And then book 5 of Psalms opens on the theme of coming home and bookended with the job description of Messiah . In Psalm 107 It is God who moves. He provides the lost a city, he overcomes natural disaster lost in a perfect storm, health for the sick and freedom for the slaves even guilty ones. In Psalms 146 and 147 he opens blind eyes, he frees the captives, he heals the broken hearted. Jesus is the means and ends of salvation. He is both the treasure and the way home. We see the same job description in Leviticus, Isaiah 61 and Luke 4 (job description of Jesus and where Marvel got the name Luke Cage) It's even quoted on the Liberty Bell "the freedom ring though the land" referencing the year of Jubilee. Who has the power to even heal us from our addiction to ourselves? Jesus does. Merry Christmas.

This pastor must be the only one who doesn't know that December 25th is a celebration of the birthday of the pagan sun god. Idolatry is a sin.
