That's incorrect, they actually had every intention to start Panther production, and they planned to start production in '44, but because the P26/40 had just been finished and they wanted to have the order of them completed first and since they had poured so many resources into them, not to mention how they needed a tank to fill the gap until the Panterra would be ready. Since it'd take about a year to switch the manufacturing from the relatively simpler P26 to the P.44 Panterra (the Italian Modified Panther design). The reason the RSI (Northern Italy) couldn't continue production was because the larger manufacturing facilities needed to construct the Panterra were now under Southern Italy's control. There were some plants in the north yes but they weren't capable of producing the Panterra in large enough numbers so they switched to Semovente da 105/25 "Bassotto" production instead.

Even Allied pilots revered these planes due to their high manuverabilty and good performance. I could go on but that's enough.

if you are refering to Opperation Compass in 1940 (for the 10:1 battle), the italians only had 4 times the number of men, and about half the number of tanks (the british tank numbers don't count the armoured cars are 275 while the italian tank numbers are 130 if you don't count tankettes and armoured cars). and what happened was the Italians won a battle, were ordered to stop to allow supply lines to catch up (most of italie's trucks were still in italy), british flanked them, the italians tried to break out of the encirclement (retreating to get all the available men to break out as possible. and failed to do so before they ran out of water and were forced to surrender. after that the british attacked a bunch of barely defended towns (reltaive to their forces) intill they were halted by italian reinforcements and then pushed back by a mixture of italains and germans. and all this was still 1.5 times longer then the fall of france.
ISP: we're behind enemy lines. It's what Italians do. Me: weren't the Italians always behind enemy lines since they switched sides like every 10 minutes?
