He didn't do the dirty work in regards to his brother. Salvatore was set up by Greg in a staged robbery. He had his brother murdered because Sal realized that Greg was an informant. Now, if he had balls, Greg would have either taken care of his brother if he wanted to go that route, but even better he should have faced up to the allegations since they were true and dealt with the consequences, which of course would have been death. That would have taken balls.

For those who don't know much about this guy, soon after this interview was recorded, Scarpa, his son and another man got into a shootout with another group. The third man was killed and Scarpa himself was SHOT in the FACE..... yet he managed to SURVIVE . He lost an eye. He was soon put back in prison and died there of AIDS in 1994 which was about a year and a half after this interview. There are recent interviews here on youtube of Scarpas daughter who you can see here in this report where she speaks about her life as Scarpas daughter. The absolute best part of the 11/12/92 story is that a month later Scarpa did this (from Wikipedia):" On December 29, 1992, while under house arrest with an electronic monitoring device, Scarpa lost an eye in a shootout with other mobsters. Two Lucchese family mobsters, Michael DeRosa and Ronald Moran, had threatened Joey Scarpa, Gregory's son, over a drug deal. Climbing out of bed, the elder Scarpa drove with Joey to DeRosa's house and shot DeRosa. Moran fired back and hit Scarpa in the eye. Back at his house, Scarpa allegedly poured some Scotch Whisky into his wound, assured the authorities everything was fine, and later went to the hospital. Prosecutors revoked Scarpa's house arrest and sent him to jail."

The FBI strategy at the time was to find a ruthless fella with an independent streak and turn him out by appealing to his violent impulses and selfish greed. They would then encourage him to run rampant on the inside, causing chaos and making the organization vulnerable from pressure within as well as pressure without.

This man definitely killed more than 2 people. He had a hired limo driver to drive his daughter to school. He tried to force himself on Scarpa’s daughter and signed his own death warrant. Scarpa killed him.
They didn’t touch on the fact that Scarpa had been an informant for decades and some believe that’s why operated with impunity. Allegedly the FBI used flew him to Mississippi to do things to a suspect that they couldn’t to find out where the bodies of the activists were buried. His mistress went with him and done an interview about going to a motel in Mississippi and awaiting his return.

It's disheartening that the government didn't step up during the Aids crisis and place an order for all donated blood to be screened. This didn't occur until way later and when health care professionals were making a lot of noise.
I was born in '79. In the mid eighties my mother received a letter from the Ministry of Health. My sister got hit by a car in 1980 - needed at blood transfusion. My mother has had many surgeries that required a blood transfusion - including around the time she was pregnant with me.
The letter from the Ministry of Health listed my mother's, sister's and my name and listed a timeline of blood transfusions given and stated we needed to go to this clinic on this day and time for a blood test.
You should have seen how many people were being screened. I was just a little girl at the time but I will never forget it.
My mother coming from a medical background - I remember asking her why didn't they test the blood first before giving it to people.
Anyways, I can't believe Greg Scrapa was one of the unfortunates. It wasn't a good time to be suffering from Aids back then. So much misunderstanding.

You don't know a lot of the story, Angela. The hospital was going to give the gangster their own blood, which was already screened for AIDS. The gangster, thinking it would be safer than random hospital donor blood, knew his friends weren't gay and asked the hospital to use his friend's blood. The hospital followed the gangster's wishes and gave him his friend's blood, which happened to have aids. The deadbeat later sued the hospital, and the hospital settled.

Many men who had HIV or AIDS were killing themselves because they feared that if they told people that they had aids, people would think that they were gay.
