      I have a budget blue/green infect deck, probably less than $100. I played it against my brother today and easily got a turn 2 kill, then a turn 5-6 kill through disruption. Love it.

    Regarding Infect: Cut Noble Hierarch for a cheaper Mana dork. The Exalated ability can help push through the 10th infect damage occasionally, but it's a steep price to pay for that extra damage.
    The land base uses 9 Fetchlands and 4 lands can be fetched with them. They are more for the landfall trigger, and all are meant to fetch a forest (either Forest or Breeding Pool). Change all the expensive Fetchlands into 4 Wooded Foothills and 4 Windswept Heath. Then add a 3rd Breeding Pool or Forest.
    The sideboard runs 4 Tarmogoyf as an alternative beat down strat. This can be changed for something more budget or meta specific.
    That's my early look suggestions

    • @andrewhulle3069
      @andrewhulle3069 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice Mana base suggestions! That's what I did too. It's so interesting to me that windswept heath is less than breading pool right now!

    • @herbb10
      @herbb10 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      pretty sure the only reason to play noble is because of exalted and not the mana ability...thats just an extra plus

    • @akselevensen2763
      @akselevensen2763 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just my experience, but I have found that replacing hierarch with another dork works rather poorly. Since every card in your hand is worth its weight in gold, having an additional pump spell or another protection card is usually more valuable than the extra mana. Only my two cents.

  • @ebologna1404

    I pride you on bringing light to the prowess deck, as of recent in the meta I think it has been overshadowed a bit compared to where it used to be in the past. I’ve had friends make the deck competitive for under $150 and I just think it’s a great modern deck that sadly doesn’t see as much attention as it used to.

    • @jemm113
      @jemm113 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      OOOH, Best thing about the prowess decks in modern, is that with core 2021, going UR may make it go over the top! The new Blue elemental becomes a 2 mana (1)(U) 3/3 with prowess and a scry 2 etb after a manamorphos, mutagenic growth, noxious revival or gutshot on turn 2! Turn 1 with a simian spirit guide or gemstone caverns (and a blue land if you go the simian + phyrexian mana card route)!
      Plus this enables the deck to run some draw cantrips (though amazingly enough crash through is a legit good card in the deck, amazing for a common from the past few years, ran it in a wizards prowess deck from dominaria) and mystical disputes from the sb. Then there is a possible GUR route but I doubt that one would be as consistent as the green would be more for mana dorks for easier turn 2 drops of the elemental and for stuff like giant growth and that stuff is maybe not the right route for any sort of green splash.

I decided for fetch less storm, and as the most expensive cards are the morphoses I also thought of cutting some steam vents and change them for fiery islets, so I can go into prowess, what I considered the best budget deck before I saw the potential of storm.

    Mono Red Burn could still even benefit some from a couple of Magma Jets and Forgotten Caves as other budget options to help stem the flood.
    Also that Mono Red Prowess isn't just aggro or combo, since it can also just burn the opponent out with it's 36-40 damage in burn spells.

  • @wind_runner6836

    the end one mono-red my brother loves to play all the time. Mono green infect is really good, since the whole mana base is like 19 forests. (Maybe some pendles and inkmoths if you want it)
    Also I can do the mana base kinda cheap for simic, just use the pain and fast lands.
    Infect does get hurt by creature removal though.

  • @theweirdlyfriendlymushroom7920
    @theweirdlyfriendlymushroom7920 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've been playing infect for 6 years with a list that's about 200€.
    I finished it basically spending nothing (the store I played in gave me the cards fort the tournament, and since I kept winning I could afford them just by playing).
    The main problem of that mana base is that it uses misty rainforest. Overkilll.
    Just use windswept heats, the are soooo much cheaper and litterally do the same in this deck
    My mana base is:
    4 WG fetch
    2 UG shockland
    4 UG fastland
    2 pendlehaven
    1 dryad
    4 inkmoth nexus
    2 snow covered forest (they can be just basic forest, the snow is not needed)

    If you have the money(2.5 tix per card) you should upgrade Endless one to stonecoil serpent before you even start your first match.
    Endless one is the cooler card (in my opinion) but Stonecoil Serpent has X cmc, Trample, Reach and Protection from multicolored.

      There's a UR prowess deck there, no fetches so land base is cheaper, could go monored as most of the cards go over with swapping out stuff like lightning bolt & no upgrades with the horizon lands. UR is getting a new elemental in 2021 named Stormwing Entity that's a flying, prowess, 3/3 powerhouse with an etb scry 2 for (1)(U) to get down on turn 3 in pioneer (and in modern can be put down on turn 2, and turn 1 on rare occasion based on potential build). It's cmc is 5 mana but it's ability takes off (2)(U) from the cost when you cast an instant or sorcery that turn.

    Great video, Nikachu. Would you share your thoughts on a different perspectives of getting into modern: Cards that are can be used in different decks and are likely to stay relevant in modern?
    (Food for thought: Some fetches are getting reprinted, conversely, Lilianas are lower than hey have been in a while. K commands and collective brutality where just reprinted. Aether vials? Would you guide somebody wanting to go into the format and not buying jank that will not last?)

    • @NikachuMTG
      @NikachuMTG  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ideally you want to buy staples but that’s very expensive and might not be for the person’s playstyle. I think the most important factor is to buy cards for a deck you want to play, even if they see play nowhere else. Like Amulet-Titan or Hardened Scales Affinity.

    • @NikachuMTG

      Modern doesn’t rotate their sets. In standard you play with the last 2 blocks of sets and when a new block of sets comes out, the only legal cards are the newest 2 blocks. So the old block becomes illegal. Sorry if this is a bit confusing but basically standard only gets to play with cards for the last two years (although this is not exactly what happens)

      Nikachu MTG i mean even mistcaller or triton shorestalker, it even cosi’s trickster. plus with cosi’s trickster you could probably play field and/or ghostquarter in the main to some success. but yeah i just feel like without the tempo of vial its very important that the deck has a smooth curve so that you can more reliably kill on turn 4-5

    • @NikachuMTG
      @NikachuMTG  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s nice to have some turn 4 kills, that’s why I have Biomancer, but it’s hard to do it reliably in Modern because there’s so much removal.

      Nikachu MTG i suppose youre right. although maybe if you were to do a similar video in the future it could be cool to talk about different card choices and explore ideas like that. i think its important to encourage new players to make decisions like which cards to play in their decks and to figure out which cards are best for their meta.

    Also mono red incinerator is now a thing I mean a dude went 5-0 with it against real decks and even beat mono red burn and collected company which are both solid decks in the meta. it can be built for cheaper than prowess and has higher highs but is a bit luck based because there are only four incinerators and is trying to combo off in a way. Also why aren't you playing any gutshot it's worth at least one copy in prowess

    • @carlosarguelles4376
      @carlosarguelles4376 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NikachuMTG e tron matchups tend to be good when chalice is good in those matchups, the metagame actually has a ton of very power full 1 drops and even some 0 drops in amulet titan or neoform, although you may play e tron without it, what makes it a top tier deck is the unfair advantage of shutting of a ton of your opponents cards (path bolt and fatal push are some of the most played cards in modern) as long as directly winning some matchups like prowess, burn or shadow
