When you get Legendary Weapons and Armor, you can use them (if your level is high enough), you can sell them for caps, you can sell them for Legendary Scrip (which you use to buy random Legendary Items or Legendary mods), or you can scrap them for a chance to learn a Legendary mod to mod your weapons or armor (if you're high enough level). When you reach level 50, you are a LOT less limited. When you hit 50, you don't get any more points to increase your stats, but you receive Perks which you can attach to your stats and you can re-arrange your Stats with a Punchcard machine you find at train stations or build in your camp, if you have the plan for it. Plastic, adhesives, and aluminum are some of the scrap you need to get ahold of. You can actually plant mutfruit, tatos, and corn at your camp and use them with purified water to make adhesives. you can also use boiled water and the vegetables and razorgrain to make alcoholic beverages. Most alcoholic beverages boost your STR by +1, but Whiskey, which is a little more comlicated to make boosts your STR by +2. A +1 boost increases your carry weight by 5 lbs, +2 boosts it by 10 lbs. But Perks are the best way to increase your carry weight. Some Perks reduce your Chemicals (meds), Ammo, Weapons by a certain percentage. Power Armor, especially Excavator Armor you'll eventually learn how to build, increases your carry weight by 200 lbs, but if you set your character up right, you can run around in a diving suit and carry more stuff than in power armor, and even more when you learn how to make backpacks.
I've been playing off and on since the beta test 6 years ago (mostly off, unfortunately). But I've been playing a lot more the last year. In the last few months, I've been playing every day and went from level 176 or so to 315 or so. There's been so many changes and additions since the beginning, starting with The Wastelanders which added other humans. Before that it was only robots, ghouls, scorched, creatures, and Super Mutants. They've added so much stuff every few months including events and all sorts of stuff. Around Halloween, they have Halloween themed stuff, Christmas time they have Christmas themed Scorched dressed like Santa. There's a Faschnact celebration based on a real life celebration in the town of Helvetia. The coolest thing about the game is you can visit real life locations like the big bridge, Helvetia, and other places.
I definitely seen a couple events rotate an never really ran into duplicates yet. You’re a real veteran though I seen people leave 700+ and was amazed that people spent that much time so I knew it had to be good also never been in a dead server.
Honestly the “old game” means nothing if it’s a good solid game. ESPECIALLY with Bethesda games that you can spend decades playing. I just started 76 in like August.
