    I really like your video weaving stories with bushcraft. Thank you for the tale of Fionn MacCumhaill (pronounced McCool, to assist those from different countries) , Finnegas and the salmon of knowledge. I look forward to more videos.

    The Celtic myth's and legends really interest me, it's hard to understand, but unless you spend time alone in the forest over night, you don't appreciate the foundations of the wood lore that created some of these traditions,
    To have these things that protect and cure you when you're alone and venerable in the forest are a great boost to your courage . ty for the information atb. Dave

      Chippa Fate definitely, so many today just see them as trees and to be chopped and used but we as woodsmen have a much deeper connection to the land and it's ingrained in our heritage.
      to truly know the trees people need to know there real history and Legends as their there for a reason. ;)

    Nice video and it is good you went into more detail than I did in my hazel video - always good to share the old knowledge and folklore and even better when it is someone speaking true English.
    If it wasn't for all the damned grey squirrels we have here now the hazel nut bounty would be something to look forward to but all too often they get cleaned out before they're ready.

      Pondguru Outdoors hey there and thanks for the comment, I will check your video out.
      Yeah I could of added a bit more, I may make a re-edit and add/ show some of things you can do with it in detail or make 2nd video on it.
      Thanks for the comment ;)'

      No worries, man.
      Hazel is a great plant and I love having it in my woodland here as its great to see it regrow after coppicing. We never get any nuts here now as the squirrels hammer them before they are ready and although I do shoot the squirrels they get there before me every year. The local supermarket now provides my edible nuts, lol

      Pondguru Outdoors yeah we have lots of them around, once we had red squirrel but now they have long gone and grays our out in force.
      if your ever around feel free to come to our woodland and check it it, we are based at Finchale Abbey in County Durham. we have a wild camp and bush moot. ;)

      I know where that is as I did some river testing down there when I was at university. Next time I'm down that way I will swing by if time allows no worries.

    Can you put the sources of your myths and legends (if possible) somewhere? Some of the tales are new to me, like the clubfoot monk...

    • @JustaDudeintheWoods
      @JustaDudeintheWoods  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Heleen Van 'tveld hi there, yeah definitely, a Google search will find them quite easy. I got my I found from a radio show that was at the site and did a Halloween special but I actually work as part of a research team who runs the finchal farm ghost walk. I will see I cm I can compile some Info and add it in the listing 👍

    Is there some confusion between witch hazel and the hazel tree- Hamamelis is commonly used in beauty products, not Corylus

    Took me the longest time to figure out what "kewk" meant. By the way, it rhymes with tewk and lewk. It has the same vowel sound as pewt and fewt.

    when you buy nuts at christmas you get more hazel nuts than any other nut in a pack .just a bit of common sense . there cheaper than a brazil nut

    • @JustaDudeintheWoods
      @JustaDudeintheWoods  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      1001space yeah your totally right, I just double checked and there is a health advisory on saying that eating to many can lead to a upset stomach and cross referenced it online and there are quite a few articles that do say they can give you a upset stomach as any but can if you eat to many.
      What i shouldn of said is "if your in the wild and use this nut as your main staple it may give you an upset stomach". But yeah they do sell them in a raw state but I belive they are dry stored to break down the tannin that crates the issues.

  • @1001space
    @1001space 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    hazel nut eaten raw gives you a upset stomach i don't think so mate, nice video though

    • @JustaDudeintheWoods
      @JustaDudeintheWoods  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      1001space thanks for the comment, yeah if you eat enough of them due to the tannin content it can give some people a bad stomach. normal store bought Hazel nuts are leached first. you can just eat them off the tree but like I say, not too many. ;)

    • @1001space
      @1001space 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i eat loads because they are good for you in a complex protein , all hazel nuts when you buy them are raw. learnt loads from your video though keep up the good work

    Deadly boring intro...😴😴😴

    • @JustaDudeintheWoods
      @JustaDudeintheWoods  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This was recorded before the world was stricken with ADD, before short form media, destroyed creative content, when people had the capacity to appreciate production instead of instant gratification. If you found it boring then that speaks volumes about yourself. Only boring people are bored. 🖕
