Seeing this makes me cry bc he was my dad and I never had a chance to meet him and his sound is unbelievable a legend..mom was so damn secretive..I’m almost 50 now and both parents are gone..this video is all I have of him..thank you to whomever posted..atleast I heard his voice..❤️

So sad that if he would have went to the hospital instead of playing, or even went afterwards, he'd likely be alive today. Pneumonia is very treatable.
It's really sad 'cause he's not the only known person to die from pneumonia. Such a pointless way to die, if people would just listen to logic and just stay put until you're well again.
Bernard has a visibly enlarged lymph node on the right side of his face. Some serious infection is going on. What a wonderful musician and inspiration.
It hurts to this day is the last time he ever performed Bernard Edwards inspired me to want to play bass for some it was Jameson or Graham for me it was Edwards
Nile, you did a great job with DLR, Jagger; it doesn't matter to me About record sales, the production lasts a lifetime. You did A amazing production, and everything
tears, Bernard Edwards.. One of the greatest, maybe the greatest Fender Jazz players players of all time. Only Marcus Miller can run him up, but i still say Bernard Edwards had more soul and a more soulful funk, than Marcus. It's hard, cuz im a marcus Miller fan.. But Bernard had the magic touch just, rest in peace ! Damn ur missed ..
Nile, Bernard inspired me more than you into liking Chic. I cannot comprehend how good his bass playing is. It is very like Ringo Starr and he doesn't show off. Maybe he shows off in little Phil's and so on, but he keeps the groove going and my God he's was described in the Sunday times as one of the three greats. I think the greatest is James Jameson and the other one was Paul McCartney. It's debatable. I think he recognized at least that. James Jamison was his favorite bassist
Pneumonia, and he literally died the day after this very show. I read that after Show Nile Rodgers found him dead in his Hotel room. Very sad to know that. I think Rodgers was going to cancel the show but Edwards insisted on going on. Edwards says he was "a little sick tonight"... how little anyone knew. I can't imagine how everyone felt the following day.
If only everyone had insisted that he go to the hospital. Or send medical help to his hotel room if he refused to go the the hospital. His death could have been prevented.

+frank 6000 Neil was soo soo worried for Bernard that , he actually wanted to CANCEL the concert, if he had known , I am sure he would have taken him straight to hospital.

I didn't hear them introduce the drummer. Was that still Tony? These two girls with the outfits annoy me. Not that I don't enjoy the female form, I certainly do, but Chic was never about titalation. They were about the music. I'm disappointed, Nile....and Bernard.
**Bernard Edwards**
**Nile Rodgers** Are The Best Of The Best!!!!!
Great Bass And Lead Rhythm Guitar Playing!!!!!
**Legendary**
No one will ever touch the rhythmic genius Bernard had. Rodgers/edwards were to funk what Lennon/McCartney were to rock in many ways
Rip uncle i miss you

Tokyo flu said the master and still so humble. I lose my funky smile this very night. Till the last drop, he has dedicated his life to his art.
The best bass player to ever walk shoe leather ! RIP
Great comment!

I'm so sorry to hear that🙏im a big fan of your father, he was a very talented base player & producer GOD BLESS YOU🙏
What are you talking about? Bernard was one of the cleanest motherfu'kers around, he took great care of his family and was there for all his children.

Yea but he declined even when Niel Rogers tried to talk him down

Not likely at all if he died within hours but thanks anyway ❤ for the trollish comment.
One of the best duos ever. R.I.P
Mr. Nile Rogers thank you so much for everything you have done. I particularly like the Bernard Edwards recorings
My favorite bassist. Ever...

Bernard Edwards = Bass God! Best bass player ever. Bernard died after this concert due to pneumonia. He was already very sick when playing on stage.
A great loss Bernard Edwards...May you rest in peace..

+boomfield He's playing a Music Man Stingray. The bass he's most known for.
It's a Music Man friend. Also a killer bass with a unique tone of it's own. Bernard made it sound even better.
Bernard sounded best with his Fender Jazz bass, in my opinion.
Sorry for being incorrect on this clip

Damn Tokyo Flu...
After this show, he died at the hotel...
Bernard
Exactly wh at i thought when he said "i'm a little sick tonight" is that really so or are you making it up? so sad anyhow!
I refuse to believe how is so easy to die...
RIP Bernards
❤❤
B. Edwards died at the hotel just after his (short) performance on stage at Budokan. :(
I am speechless about the tragedy of this night. Why did not any doctor come to Bernard Edwards hotel after the show? Wish he was still here among us!
Always ask myself same question 😔
killer bass

Aaron Mills reminds me of him in playing stile.
THIS WAS NIGHT OF HIS DEATH...WOW
I wonder if that was Tony T. on the drums.
He should have gone to the hospital. Because pneumonia is nothing to fool around with.

it was actually the same night.

Bill Bellamy on bass
the same thing...

Dat face at 1:39
Bernard Edwards looks sick, looks like he lost alot of weight./
Really
The night Bernard died?
@Movie Fan unfortunately nobody took him to hospital.. Or maybe he refused to go.
And that very same day he passed away, was found dead in his hotel room, supposedly from the flu.
Apparently he had double pneumonia which led to heart failure :(
Crazy to think that in about 6 hours he would be dead
def something wrong with 'nard here - the ol' magic ain't happening. Should never have been performing on stage. Nile must have known that ...

Johnny, how do you know 'Nard insisted on playing that night ?
Thanks Johnny, Nile may well have said that after the fact, but I heard different from someone who was there.

Omar Hakim on drums.
This show was in 1996, a time when it was more chic (no pun intended) to show skin as compared to Chic’s heyday of the late 70’s.
Hey girls, can you make your teeny outfits any teenier? It's about the music, not y'all.
What a tragic waste of a man and his bass :(
