To be honest. I think that the people saying that Billie “fell off” aren’t even listening to her music. Probably listened to two songs and created an opinion from nothing. She’s exploring SOOO many different styles in this album. Really hope some people can open themselves more to that.

This song reminds me of philophobia (the fear of falling in love) The way she describes how she’s fallen for someone she shouldn’t have with a sort of fear in her voice, not fear because she shouldn’t have fallen for this person, but fear because she has fallen in love. It’s almost as if she’s punishing herself for falling in love knowing the pain love can bring ignoring the joy it brings. This whole song also feels like she’s sat on the beach with her toes in the water letting her situation sink in she has fallen in love. Plus, the metaphor of Halleys commet (a commet that only comes once in a lifetime) kind of described that she’ll only fall in love once in a lifetime. Another example is the last 2 lines “I think I might have fallen in love, what am I to do?” For me them words describe the entire song in a nutshell.
When this album came out for whatever reason I wasn't a fan of most of the songs in it. It will be 2024 in about an hour and fifteen minutes from me typing this and I now I think this is the best album to have ever existed and this is one of the best songs in it.
Billie once said that she thought for a long time to decide if she should put this song in this album. It turns out that it's really a smart choice to have this song.

My interpretation for this song is that it begins by illustrating the period of time after a breakup where you are conflicted about everything. When she sings "I don't want it / And I don't want to want you" sort of feels like when you try to acknowledge to yourself that it's better for you to be without that person, but it's often in denial because "but in my dreams I seem to be more honest" and in reality there are feelings of love that seem inescapable. To me it's describing a relationship where the speaker is in love but the two people were never on the same page (midnight for me is 3AM for you) and they never saw each other enough to get on the same page (Halley's comet comes around more than I do). The first phrase ends when the speaker concludes that "right now in this moment / I feel more and more like I was made for you", but in a hopeless, sighing tone to convey a wistfulness/remorse for losing the person rather than a warm, joyful notion. The second part of the song sounds very nostalgic especially with the echoing/underwater effects. This sort of feels like a memory brought up from the past as the speaker now thinks back to the very beginning of the relationship where they state "I think I might have fallen in love / what am I to do". For me it drummed up all those feelings when I first met my current boyfriend years ago. I was always a very guarded person so initially I was like oh shit I don’t wanna be in love but the more I really ruminated on it I was like well there is nothing I can do to stop the way I feel. This song reminds me of philophobia (the fear of falling in love)
The way she describes how she’s fallen for someone she shouldn’t have with a sort of fear in her voice, not fear because she shouldn’t have fallen for this person, but fear because she has fallen in love. It’s almost as if she’s punishing herself for falling in love knowing the pain love can bring ignoring the joy it brings. This whole song also feels like she’s sat on the beach with her toes in the water letting her situation sink in she has fallen in love.
Plus, the metaphor of Halleys commet (a commet that only comes once in a lifetime) kind of described that she’ll only fall in love once in a lifetime.
Another example is the last 2 lines “I think I might have fallen in love, what am I to do?” For me them words describe the entire song in a nutshell.

My interpretation for this song is that it begins by illustrating the period of time after a breakup where you are conflicted about everything. When she sings "I don't want it / And I don't want to want you" sort of feels like when you try to acknowledge to yourself that it's better for you to be without that person, but it's often in denial because "but in my dreams I seem to be more honest" and in reality there are feelings of love that seem inescapable. To me it's describing a relationship where the speaker is in love but the two people were never on the same page (midnight for me is 3AM for you) and they never saw each other enough to get on the same page (Halley's comet comes around more than I do). The first phrase ends when the speaker concludes that "right now in this moment / I feel more and more like I was made for you", but in a hopeless, sighing tone to convey a wistfulness/remorse for losing the person rather than a warm, joyful notion. The second part of the song sounds very nostalgic especially with the echoing/underwater effects. This sort of feels like a memory brought up from the past as the speaker now thinks back to the very beginning of the relationship where they state "I think I might have fallen in love / what am I to do". This part reflects a sense of naivety as the speaker first contemplates what their feelings might lead to; the post breakup speaker mirrors these sentiments of foolishness when earlier they voiced "silly me to fall in love with you".
