Tardigrades are surprisingly not nearly as hardy as people think. They can survive a lot, but they die to mundane things all the time, like things eating them.
@@bengoodwin2141 That's true but those predators would die in the extreme environments where tardigrades survive.
@@ppsaha1994 That is also true, but it's not like exclusively predation kills tardigrades, and many other microscopic organisms are just as resilient, or more. For example, tardigrades do their drying out trick to survive unfavorable conditions, but other microbes just keep on living normally in those conditions, and the ones that don't have other strategies like forming spores.

sponges, coral, and plants of prehistoric times have to be one of the most under looked parts of the worlds before use. sure, there not as entertaining as moving organisms but they do make up a major part of their environments and are important for us to understand what the past of our planet looked like.
See plants coral are other things of that sort are the ones that actually construct the large scale physical environment other organisms live in. Reefs forests grassland etc.
RIP Steve Hillenburg. He taught us so much about sponges. I had no idea they like living in pineapples! 🌈

Colonial organisms are all kinda crazy. Same DNA, same species, but can vary wildly in shape/size, jobs done, etc
I've never watched SpongeBob so those jokes would go over my head anyway. I've noticed he's drawn as an artificial kitchen sponge rather than something shown in the video.
@southron_d1349 - _Spongebob Squarepants_ is not a documentary, but a fun cartoon. Even to this adult, it is hilarious and adorable. He lives in the town of "Bikini Bottom" and his best friend is a starfish. It's a whole funny watery world.

I'm gonna say "true" for the triva. I know that the length between the beginning and end of the Mesozoic is longer than between the end of the Mesozoic and now. And I think that the three parts were fairly long each.

I'm honestly surprised there's not more spongivore animals out there, given that sponges are clearly an apocalypse-resistant food source. But, then again, the time scales these mass extinctions occur on are probably too slow and spread out to really push that as a sustained predation strategy.

There’s a little known passage at the end of his novel _The Time Machine_ where the Time Traveler ventures millions of years beyond the era of the Eloi and Morlocks, to a time when a bloated red sun hangs permanently at the horizon over a cold and desolate landscape, and the only remaining vertebrate life hopping about on the lichen-encrusted rocks are these small grey rabbit-like creatures … that must have descended from humans! But they are being hunted by the new dominant species: giant metallic-looking land-crabs. Truly a haunting image.
