bro this ending is one and a half minutes of character development. When we first meet Sister, there’s not much depth to her but this ending tells you her story, what happened to her, how her life was before and after the incident, how she has to carry all that inside her and has to deal with those emotions alone, but she doesn’t show it, because of her strength, and at the end of the video we see where part of that strength comes from; her friends who made her feel like she is part of something, like she belongs. they’re her home and thanks to that, she can continue to look forward with confidence. What a fucking ending

Sad fact: Around the week of the second episode on July 18, 2019, the Arson Attack on Kyoto Animation Studio occured, so in response, the scenes which showed the burning of the orphanage were heavily censored for the remainder of the ED's runtime out of respect for the 36 staff members who lost their lives in the fire.
The part where it shows Iris' silhouette running with the fire in the background is my favorite part. The emotion they managed to portray through a silhouette is amazing to me.
I love the running animation. There’s something so horrifically visceral about it that sets it apart from other running segments in other openings and endings. Maybe because this ending tells its own little story of something that happened, which I’ve honestly never seen before to this extent, but you really FEEL that horror and panic from Iris as she’s running. She’s fleeing for her life and it shows in every frame. This is extremely well done. The fact that she’s running this hard and this fast and can’t gain any distance on the flames also speaks volumes about how the trauma of seeing her family and friends burning is clearly never going to leave her. She can’t just escape it.

i love how even though we never knew these girls and they’re all just part of a backstory, the art still does an amazing job of characterizing them. they have distinct features and you even get a glimpse of their personalities based off of the art. the brown haired one was inquisitive, outgoing and seemed to love animals - the black haired one with the beauty mark seemed very calm, mature and responsible. this is a huge point that i haven’t seen touched on in the op like we knew all these girls as just fillers for backstory but sister iris and hibana knew them as real people 🥺 just makes me feel even worse for them all

Honestly, visuals aside, the simple yet deep storytelling embedded in the outro is simply fantastic. Out of context one may not understand why people burst into flames outta nowhere, but even then you can kinda tell what's going on. I love this outro

0:27-0:50 It's like coming out of the bathroom and heading to your room where you're friends are only to see that they've became zombies and then they just start attacking you and running after you. That part didn't scare me but it did gave me chills.
I think that this ending is really deep by the fact that you feel close to a story of those girls but you actually don't know anything about them, hits different

Most of the characters you understand the gist of who they are after a few interactions; Iris kinda seems like she's the token unremarkable human of the team. And then the ending hits. I'm kinda disappointed Iris' backstory was only relevant for a few episodes while this was the ED for the show. I thought the revelation of her past would be the biggest emotional plot point for the first half of season one.
This is honestly my most favorite ending of all time. The music is so good, I especially love the guitar riff at the beginning, and the visuals are so powerful.

The glimpse of their life in the first bit, it’s just so well put together- like I don’t even know how to describe it, the way they drew the moments was amazing and how creative they were

Most of the characters you understand the gist of who they are after a few interactions; Iris kinda seems like she's the token unremarkable human of the team. And then the ending hits.

I love it too, i play just as the show ends on the toonami, and muted their edited version(shows Iris splashing herself with water, then running away from the fire) damn you toonami, why did you have to butcher such a beautiful end credit scene and remove the catchy guitar riff in your edit of the end credit scene?!
I'm kinda disappointed Iris' backstory was only relevant for a few episodes while this was the ED for the show. I thought the revelation of her past would be the biggest emotional plot point for the first half of season one.

Just starting this show, and these end credits are already my favorite end credits in all of anime. Beautiful art and imagery in this.
The glimpse of their life in the first bit, it’s just so well put together- like I don’t even know how to describe it, the way they drew the moments was amazing and how creative they were
I remembered that scene at 0:43 scaring the s*** out of me for the first few episodes (note I was watching this serires during evening) and I pondered why they censored it in future episodes
Apparently there was an arson attack in Kyoto, so they censored it in respect for those who lost their lives

2 things. number one the animation perfectly fits in with the song and i cant get over how smooth the running part is this is possibly one of thee best anime ending themes inferno is also amazing. number 2 i feel like this ending alone has more character development than some other anime characters. i Remember an episode about the iris backstory. yes it was good but honestly this ending showed us a good amount of what we needed to know about iris. this is amazing and really sounds great and should be more known
