What an amazing piece of history. These early drag racing engineers were incredible people. The stuff they figured out by trial and error and observation using junkyard parts and basic tools was mind boggling.
Yes, exactly! Most old drag cars were scrapped because by the end of their "career" they were just too cut-up to be salvageable. The Rebel Rouser is a rare case!
Definitely enjoy what you're doing seeing your hot rods Plus those that you've come across of the old drag cars the early 60s, keep up the great work thanks again
That is another great story! So fortunate to have such a well document history of the car and family. What a fantastic job the son did to bring the car back to it's glory! great job HRH!
Another amazing video, great research and info, its so nice to get a break from whatever people are putting ls motors in. No disrespect to the ls motors.
Wow Mr Byrd. Nice job putting this video together. It requires a lot of time. Planning. Acquiring old footage and sometimes literature. Going to the track to film. Editing and uploading the footage, etc. I'm sure I'm leaving a lot out. Just want you to know it's appreciated. You're going to go far. You deserve every bit of it too.
Thank you once again for the kind words Joshua. It does take quite a bit of time to piece all of this stuff together. Maybe someday it can be my full time job and it won't require so many late nights haha.
Dang! What a neat car, love the engine set back, I wonder how many times they bonked the hedders with the doors. So glad it did not become a street rod. Running 9s with a SOHC on a shopping cart suspension is no joke. Its neat its restored back to how it was originally built. Cool video!

@@HotRodHoarder mine was a glass body, made by rays rods in the early 1980s here in the UK, homemade chassis, 215 buicl stroked to 269ci, 4 speed manual, 58 chevy rear, 62 corvette diff with 4.10s. a real shame but corona came and money went short, car had to go.
I've taken it to a few, but haven't really raced it very much. Just a few passes at my local test and tune night. My excuse has always been that the rear end is too weak, but I'm kinda ready to go see if I can find the limits. If it breaks, I'll probably put a solid rear axle under it instead of independent.

nice. a shame ill never find my grandpas old race car. it was a lancia astura frame/cowl/drivetrain with a hand made steel body on top of the frame. he drag and circuit raced it in asmara, eritrea in the mid to late 50s while he was stationed at kagnew station with the ASA. he couldnt afford to ship it back home, so he sold it.
Curious if he will ever paint/letter it to the earlier B/A version pre "rebel-rouser" style due to Confederacy references. My Dad bought an old 54 Corvette gasser, and is turning it into a hot rod rather than restoring it as a gasser due to the old name/logos being derogative/offensive to Native Americans.
