Not that astonishing. Many people think unexplained or uninvited recording is mild aggression. They further expect this is the norm everyone has so if they question you, you'll immediately stop in order to speak with them to either explain yourself or negotiate. This is likely why *they* are offended and probably honestly feel threatened when they come up to the auditors and do not get the "polite" reaction of momentarily turning the camera off. (not that I agree with this, but I understand it).

I worked in Bar Harbor summer of 89, I may or may not have done a bunch of lines of coke with a Bar Harbor police officer in the office of one of the restaurants they may or may not have filmed here. Also, the vast majority of businesses there are owned by out of staters.

Based on that, it's much more likely that he was trying to figure out if it was a problem with that officer as well and hopefully highlight policing. If you keep making assumptions like this, just like the officer without objective basis, you then become an example of the toxicity.

@@ayamehachimitsu Please rewatch the video and you will see that when Jason came up his parked car in a heated emotional state the Officer implied that there was no issue filming and though the discouse told Jason that he didnt even come over and spoke with him and in fact Jason was the one instigating the interaction. So this is why I said that in order to put to rest some of these "assumptions" auditors should refrain most of the time (depending on the situation) from making first contact with law enforcement.
The mentality of that cop sitting alone in his car with the windows up wearing a mask, tells us all we need to know.

This is why no matter how nice you are to the police, they always treat you like they hate you. You can be as respectful as possible, it makes no difference.
I disagree with that as a blanket statement as there are some amazing cops out there who take way more abuse from drunks and druggies as well as just generally entitled people than I could ever tolerate. Some of the videos make you look again at whether police brutality should be allowed for those people 😂. It depends a lot on the area and the way they are trained.

I called the PD and spoke with a lieutenant. He was very professional and took the time to listen to my complaint. He said the officer’s behavior was not professional and not a reflection of how police officers should behave. I told him this type of video was a great way for people to learn to do better.

Great job! Departments need people bringing to the light the poor representation of specific officers. I know the officers being at this "scene" weren't in a situation where guns/tazer, etc. was needed, but if they act like this over a couple guys with cameras, who's life could be in danger with the arrogance when level headed "big 💩" goes down???

I don't think I have ever seen a camera 'in someone's face' when someone said it was. It is always an extreme exaggeration. I think if it gets within 6' that is in their face. 😁 And like you said, very often they approach the camera.

We visited Bar Harbor but will NEVER return. It should scare people to visit that town and believe me, I’m PRO police!! but these two were embarrassment to their town. Wow.

After this video was posted, I reached out to Bar Harbor Police and they indicated several times they were preparing a media statement. Many emails later (and a FOAA request for footage of on the police officers’ phones), I have only received receipt confirmation of my FOAA request.
I’ll be posting on my FB page when I get further information.
MAINE JOURNAL THANKS KEEP THE PRESSURE ON AND PUBLICLY ANNOUNCE THOSE COPS NAMES AND CRITICIZE THEIR POOR BEHAVIOR.
@@belair54 - Well they improperly denied my FOAA on grounds of “confidentiality” which is ridiculous. I’ve now prepared a complaint for filing with the Superior Court.
maine....my compliments for you taking action. You know, just one person sending a letter, say once a week or so, certified mail, signature receipt, followed by the same sent by fax, can really keep an office busy, in Minecraft.

@@jmarv615 - Not to my satisfaction. They denied the FOAA request. I missed the boat by not filing a complaint in Superior Court. My attorney was away and while I could have done it myself, it was a lot of money in filing fees and sheriff’s service. I do MJN for free and don’t make money on it so it was a substantial outlay for me.
It never ceases to amaze me how people think that they are owed an explanation or think that they can tell someone what to do.
It is staggering how many people ask....but then he does say if people would only ask he would answer....
@@marksnelling2137 Jason "reads" people, as do judges in a courtroom. If he perceives that the question is genuine, he usually answers it. If the question is intrusive or demanding, his response or lack of response will vary.

He assured me that their captain is aware of this incident and they are investigating.. so yeah, nice, but we all know what that means: "we investigated ourselves and found no wrongdoing"..

It must have been really bad back in the day without body cams, cell phone cams, and widespread cctv. Cops could say anything and it’s your word vs theirs. All the cams are a double edge sword though as privacy has become almost non existent. The positives and the negatives.
