As someone who is a code guy, 1). you want to direct the water around your house not under your slab. 2). You don't need two Ufer grounds or check continuity. You only check continuity on manufactured homes and factory built houses that arrive in multiple pieces. So you check continuity in the electrical systems of the front various pieces. 3). If you're going to have conditioned space above your slab you really really really should have included a vapor barrier and capillary break. The dry air created by your air-conditioner will draw tons of water through your slab and destroy any flooring you put on it.
Now I've seen everything. Thank you very much. I really appreciate this video. It was very considerate of you to post in a mode I can view. I'm trying to get a new computer, but at my age i'm at the bottom of the list. I found a picture of the solar house I built back in the late 70's. I'll try and post it. that's what gran kids are fore. Take care and God Bless.
Watching you two has given my great joy. A friend of mine wanted to build a log cabin. I told him we could do it. It took us 2 1/2 years. I know what it's like to do each part and the joy you get from doing a job and knowing you did it right. The logs were in a kit, but that made it a lot easier. Keep up the good work!!!
I've watched quite a few of your videos, and it really made my day to hear you refer to Allyssa as a "Trooper" . I think one of the things I like best in your videos, is the fact that girl jumps right into anything you need done without hesitation. Even operating the heavy equipment.
Now that went smoothly! Before going to bed last night, writing this at 8 in the morning, I hoped that this video would be up for my breakfast. It was, and it was GREAT. You should be very proud of yourselves. My only regret is that living in Sweden I can't rush over and help you. You two have an amazing relationship that hopefully will help you completing this and many more challenges.
You guys have accomplished so much as a couple, this concrete pouring is important to the longevity of a physical home, but you both have long since laid the most important foundation….Love and respect for each other. Good job!
You folks did a fantastic job of getting ahead of the night mare that this could have been. I am retired military and I am thoroughly impressed. Nicely done!
I have been in construction for about ten years so still new to it..but it just goes to show you half the ppl in the comments are just dumb because if you passed the inspection and they poured the concrete then your doing a great job... I hate getting on TH-cam and watching you all work so hard then ppl put you down so bad they are just jealous I guess Idk. But you all are doing a great job there is many ways to do stuff in construction just because it's not like someone else does not mean it's not right or going to pass inspection
I don't know if they are doing it right or wrong, as for the inspection they are in an area that all that was needed was a plot plan of where the building is going. They have no inspectors or codes they have to follow, there are still places like that in rural parts
James H Rings are one of the worst things to have on when you are working with equipment or plants as any injury or allergic reaction can cause the finger it is on to start swelling up. 9 times out of 10 they have to cut the ring to get it off. No reason to look for a ring on a smart person. If they wish to have a ring and not have it at risk they have it on a chain around the neck but that still is a risk of losing it if the chain breaks. On people that work with high voltage they often will not even wear a watch let alone a chunk of metal directly touching skin. Metal workers also are known to not wear them as the heat can transfer to skin faster with a big heat sink.
You two are amazing, doing all this work and still sacrificing yourselves to share this with us. You are working 12-16 hour days and then taking the time to edit and upload, ROCK STARS....
I am a retired engineer, contractor, journeyman carpenter. I built mostly in earthquake country, our rebar had to be inspected, No stabbing, and required a 12 in L bend tied to footing rebar.
I been waiting to see the waste pipe go in, and water lines. Now they have to digg under the fottings? At least in sweden we digg in the pipes/electrical first and then later pour the slabs. Great video! still its amazing what these 2 people are doing.
Seismic Design Category A, B, and C for residential construction permits stabbing of verticals without 90° hooks. I picked a random spot in Idaho and the seismic design values were SDC B, so that's what they are probably using. For SoCal, Bay Area, and Sierra's (historically seismic zone 4), this is a no-go even for residential construction. For this application the connection is considered a shear-only connection so does not require the same development normally expected.
I have to admit that things are becoming more tangible and less ideas. Going from... "the house will sit over there" to concrete in the forms" has got to be an awesome feeling. Once the walls and stuff start to go up will put that light at the end of the tunnel just that much closer. Thank you for sharing!
Awesome pour guys...everything looked great & neither of Ya'll looked to frazzled. Yeah, ready for a new day...& won't be long until Ur peeling logs. Crank up the sawmill & get to sawing. Can't wait...the fun has only begun.
Thanks for the video! I m not planning on going off the grid but you've inspired me to include my wife on a simple sidewalk project. Your advice about being on the same page worked and we had a great time.
Super excited for you guys! HUGE moment! I watch your videos all the time. I'm glad today was the first (and last) day I read the comments, too many uneducated and negative opinions. Keep up the great work, you guys make a great team!
I've been watching a lot of your videos and I have to say that I was very excited to see that you started pouring concrete today. It seems like we've been waiting for this day to come for quite some time. I'm very happy for you guys.
Rule no. 1 when pouring concrete is to bump the forms to get rid of any air pockets that might create honey combs which you will see when you take the forms off.
I am soooooooo excited for you guys! You have just built the foundation of your home and the amazing life you are building is shaping up. Good for you!
Good to see it went smoothly. And why wouldn't it? You have invested so much time in preparation, your success is well deserved! Keep up the good work.
It makes my heart SMILE to see this ... Y'all knocked it out of the park !!! The hardest work will so pay off in the end !!! Way to go you two !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am so glad you posted this right away. I've been waiting all day. A meeting literally kept me from checking. It went GREAT! You two, and your friends and professional people are just a like a well oiled machine. So impressive. I'm with Drone1, I just keep marking the days until I can chuck it all and start my own adventure. Thanks for the inspiration.
Job well done guys, I have been with you from day one. I'm so happy for you, you two are the hardest working people I have ever seen, my hat's off to you. Be safe.
Great video guys. The music tempo matched the pace of things as you went from the relaxed morning of preparation to the fast paced pour. For newbies, your finish turned out well.
Congratulations guys, I have been following you for months and this must be such a great feeling. All the preparation and now the first step of your house.
What an important day! Your enthusiasm and happiness radiates everywhere. This may be your best video! The dream is becoming a reality -----largely because you are such a well balanced team.
Yes Yes Yes !!!! You got it DONE! Great to have bashed your way through that. Gives me inspiration for my outbuilding pour next year. But we have actual inspections of everything here. HUGE CONGRATS!!!!
What I can see every thing looks very good before your pour . Well you guys a gal did one hell of a good job for your first time you two are hired in my book . Five thumps up .
Overall looks fantastic. I can see why your concrete "consultant" said he'd hire you. Well planned and well executed scope of work. Wiggling the vertical rebar is referred to as "wet setting", our structural engineers get all bent out of shape when they see it happen especially on bolts and anchors. It has to do with displacing the aggregate around the embed not corrosion. Rather than using linseed oil or buying specific form release agent, you can use a 50/50 mix of diesel and used motor oil. Keep if off the rebar!!! Floated/trowelled finish was wholly unnecessary. Just screed it off and leave that rough surface so there is a solid bond when you pour the ICF walls on top of it. On our commercial jobs we'll follow up same day and pressure wash the "cream" off to expose aggregate or leave a raked finish to encourage that bond. Some project specs actually require a sandblast step before ICF or masonry starts. HINT: Anytime you have a concrete pour planned. Set up a few small areas where excess mud can be disposed then round up your order by a yard or so. A mud pad just outside the "cabin" or even forms for blocks like you used at the bottom of your driveway. Beats the hell out of running out and waiting for the batch plant to turn that last ready-mix truck around. Time is money!
Great to see permanent foundation work going in. I know as exciting as this is for us watching, you guys must be giddy as things are going from plans to REAL now.
In a way it has been entertaining to watch all the drama from all the unexpected events and inexperience. However, I want to say "Hooray and huzzah! Congratulations!" It was only possible because the two of you were willing to work so hard to get here. Yes there is a lot to do but I believe you two will do well. Congratulations again.
Congratulations on the poor I'm so happy for you guys. Can't wait to see the finished house. Watching your videos as giving me a new inside on the what me and my wife want to do. Thanks so much and keep up the great videos.
Awesome job guys you too are the perfect couple, I'm sorry Lissa been sick are they a little one on the way guys.....keep the videos coming guy luv watching the progress on the cabin thank y'all for sharing..,
As a guy who did concrete work for 10 years I have to say you guys did great and I would definitely consider you an asset on a job site.
As someone who is a code guy,
1). you want to direct the water around your house not under your slab.
2). You don't need two Ufer grounds or check continuity. You only check continuity on manufactured homes and factory built houses that arrive in multiple pieces. So you check continuity in the electrical systems of the front various pieces.

Ya'll are AMAZING! Thank you so much for letting me join you on your journey. Very much appreciated.

This day is a big milestone for you guys. Congratulations!
Just want to say how. Ugh I look forward to these vlogs, awesome job guys!!!!

The day has finally come. SO happy for you guys!
Jesse and Alyssa, really appreciated watching this. Thanks alot once again for taking us along on your journey!
I've watched quite a few of your videos, and it really made my day to hear you refer to Allyssa as a "Trooper" . I think one of the things I like best in your videos, is the fact that girl jumps right into anything you need done without hesitation. Even operating the heavy equipment.

Jesse, your a lucky man!!!
It's not like you will run out of rock! Great work Jessie and Jessie's girl!
I have been in construction for about ten years so still new to it..but it just goes to show you half the ppl in the comments are just dumb because if you passed the inspection and they poured the concrete then your doing a great job... whuzzzup whatttttt no way so they don't need an inspection for anything where they live like no septic inspection even?
Nice job with the pour....Enjoy watching the both of you work together
Congrats on your pour. A huge first step towards your new home.
every video I watch I tell myself one day sell everything and do the same you guys look happier than 99% of people
Find some land with a spring higher then the house and it can be both drinking water and cooling.
Drone1Media I feel the same way. It's the rat race that gets to you. They are truly free.
I have already started. Go Team!

Drone1Media i say the same but with a kid on way that's on hold for now
You two are amazing, doing all this work and still sacrificing yourselves to share this with us. You are working 12-16 hour days and then taking the time to edit and upload, ROCK STARS....
We love watching, even my children enjoy your videos! Congrats on this huge milestone!!
A good home starts with a solid foundation. CONGRATS! You can do it!
I am a retired engineer, contractor, journeyman carpenter. I built mostly in earthquake country, our rebar had to be inspected, No stabbing, and required a 12 in L bend tied to footing rebar.
IKR? I feel sorry for these two who are being trained by incompetent contractors.
It's almost as if different regions have different requirements... but hey who could really know that.
I been waiting to see the waste pipe go in, and water lines. Now they have to digg under the fottings? At least in sweden we digg in the pipes/electrical first and then later pour the slabs. Great video! still its amazing what these 2 people are doing.

That is a lot of work, much respect to you guys.
Oh and amazing job!!!! For a first effort you nailed that!
So happy to see the pour go off without issue. w00t! Congratulations!
Awesome pour guys...everything looked great & neither of Ya'll looked to frazzled. Yeah, ready for a new day...& won't be long until Ur peeling logs. Crank up the sawmill & get to sawing. Can't wait...the fun has only begun.
