    Nice Dauphine! My first car was a blue 1959 Dauphine I bought for 25$ in 1969. It had dropped a valve seat. My dad helped my tear it down and fix it. I drove it on dirt off-road trails and to the school bus for a year. I slid into a rail fence in the snow, rolled it over once and by removing the front mounted spare tire I could easily get air on my jumps. I sold for 75$ it to buy a 1960 VW bug. I was 12 yrs old.

    Fascinating. Who would bring an old Renault back to life?

    I owned two of these in the early 70s. One I purchased for just $50 and another for $25 and drove it home. Loved this car, drove so smooth with 40mpg and motor in the rear.
    And AC wasn't an option back then just roll down the window. Classic treasure.

    It was my first car in high school. A black, 1963 Renault Dauphine that I bought for $150. 3 speed (I learned how to shift a manual with that car) and I loved it. It was all mine and I learned all about cars and car engines from that machine. Would race VWs at the high school parking lot...in reverse...and win! The gearing in reverse allowed the car to really move when you rev'd the engine!

    OMG, there's a 67 or 68 Firebird in there. We bought a 67 new when I was a child, blue with a white convertible top. We had a dolphin-shaped Marineland sticker on the back bumper.

    I had two. Great little cars. Affordable, too. I got over 30 mpg. My gas bill was usually less than $5.00 per month

    Beautiful resto. Had one back in the day (1970's). Also had a little 4CV. Character cars.

    I learned to drive on a 1960 (or 61) Dauphine. Fun car. Not great in the wet. The Australian Dauphines were 3 speed and had a very imprecise gearstick. But they were fun.

    I had a '64 Dauphine Gordini back in the 80's when I was going to college. Paid $500 for it back then. The brakes were gone so I used the emergency brake to stop. Cute little thing...red and white. Had little opera lights on the side in the shape of a crown. Even had the "picnic" A.M. radio that pulled out from the dash and had I believe D sized batteries in it. I sold it to a friend as I couldn't find anyone to fix the darn thing. I should have kept it 20/20 hindsight.

    I was 17 worked for a Car Dealer in 1970 in NJ someone traded it in for a 1970 Toyota Corolla. I bought it for $25. It was same color same year. Pushbutton auto trans anemic little put putt engine but man was it fun in the snow. If snow out you could drift in it all day long smash into huge snow banks bounce off keep going and sliding lol. Fun little car. Soft spot for it.

    I had a 58' model but a darker blue. I loved that little car though everyone made fun of me. Most of my friends all had muscle cars, I didn't have much cash in those days. Owning it made me slow down and appreciate the simpler things.

    My Dad bought one of these in 1967 when he was stationed in Bangor Maine. It was a great little car. Hughe trunk, good seating for four, and reliable as a boulder. The shifter was a little vague but not dangerously so, kind of like a VW nettle from the same era

    How can you find out exactly what year model? I have one in my driveway. Not a soul around here even knows what the car is when they see it. It's a real neck breaker.

    • @justdna4385
      @justdna4385 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can compare your serial numbers with others online. A 1959 starts with 50; a 1062 starts with GS. For model numbers it is much easier, 1090 is normal model; 1091 is a Gordini; and suffix A e.g. 1090A is a deluxe/ondine model. The French language Wikipedia explains it very well and Google's English translation is pretty good.
