Iv 'e never seen the hump back version of a Gleaner here in the states. What is different inside other than the rear bonnet? Here we did have a Rice version of the A, the big difference was the rear straw rack, instead of walkers, it had a raddle chain similar to the shaker chain on a potato digger, but the outer bonnet was the same in either machine.

So it was extended by Allis Uk from 1962 onwards, until the uk project ended in about 1962. It was to deal with the longer thicker crops. Loses were higher with the short machines. Although i have a short back and its quite good. I think it was an attempt to compete with Claas and Clayson.
Is the the R or the B you mentioned. We had A from 1958 and the C from 62 the same time the back was extended. Then the 5000 which was an improvement on the C. Yes its just the same really just extended.

The A and R series were built shortly allis bought out the Gleaner Baldwin company in the early 50s We had 2 of the early A. One was the one of first ones built after the Allis buyout. Then we had a little newer version that had the Buda engine, My older one had the side valve Hercules engine. these were built until the A-II cane on the market in early 1960.@@rbharvesters7404
