@@cyborgvalkyrie The artificial singularity replaces matter/anti-matter reaction (i.e. energy production) which powers the warp drive system. it’s akin to your car either using gasoline or electric power - either way they both feed power to a transmission to drive the wheels. The power source is different and the power conversion is different, but it’s all still used to power nacelles that generate a warp field. This is why Discovery’s “The Burn” is so very very stupid. Dilithium is NOT “fuel” - it’s the spark plug. You need a way of generating a large amount of energy - and there are LOTS of different ways to do that. New Trek is set in a completely different universe to TNG. It's dark, violent and dystopian. The struggles of 21st century Earth that once horrified Kirk, Bones, Janeway and Tuvok have returned - poverty, famine, drug addiction, violent crime, mental health issues, late stage capitalism - it's now rife all over the galaxy. Life is cheap, compassion is rare and discrimination is everywhere. It makes 21st century Earth look like a paradise.
I would say for different circumstances. Are you sterilizing a settlement, a town, a city, a continent, or all landmass on the face of an entire planet? Are you wanting to bring down a mountain on an extensive cave system? I expect they have to do with fire pattern spacing and frequency and types of weapons used.
If the movie history of star trek told us trekkies one thing, it's that the coolness of a space battle is inversely proportional to the number of vessels involved.
I agree, less is more. There is nothing cooler than having a two vessels chasing each others, where the winner is defined by the one who has greater wit and tactical sense. (Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan th-cam.com/video/WCpYqWAIwFA/w-d-xo.html). It has never been about speed, never been about the amount of ships, never been about the weapons power, and never been about anything else than the two captains challenging each others with all the time and skill they have put to their crews to perform in the emergency situations. Just like at the sea, it is captain vs captain. Not technology vs technology. This is something that so many movies fail, where they try to fill the void of great actors and scenes with just special effects, visual effects and "larger of something". Only to leave the characters shadowed by distractions and all other non-important factors.
Dont you just "love" how the Romulan ships look like bloody Quinjets from Marvel, and the Federation "Squadron", is basically an entire fucking fleet, made up of a hundred of the EXACT, SAME, SHIP! How many episodes did we hear, "Sorry, Captain, but the Enterprise is the only ship in the sector that can help". And now, at the drop of a Vulcan hat, a plethora of ships just happen to arrive. AND given the dramatic proximity between ships, when arriving, how do they know to come perfectly out of warp and not land on - or in - another ship???
🤔
Likely some combination of Cartesian and Celestial Coordinates.
Ladies and gentlemen this is Planetary Sterilization Pattern Number 5!
3:39 Anyone with half an interest in Trek knows that Romulans use an artificial singularity, not a warp core.
Still a warp core, just a different design.
@@JESK-rh1tw Not even close
Romulan ships, for example, should have been completely unaffected (or you find another way to regulate the matter/anti-matter reaction).
@@richardludwig3673 Regulate is exactly right. The matter/antimatter reaction produces energy, the dilithium tunes it to a useable frequency to be used by both the engines (warp coils) and the electrical systems of the ship..
that was my thinking as well.but riker is cool
After the Dominion war and the Borg assault on earth Starfleet upped their battle ship game.
I really thought No.1/Comdr/Capt/Admr William Riker would be seen here assuming his Capt chair on the bridge of USS TITAN warp ship. 🖖
@MrHoppers002 After Star Trek Picard it would be really great to explore dubbed Star Trek: Riker Adventures 🖖
@MrHoppers002 I agree, with computer technology, sure de-aging effects can have Mr. Frakes assume his former role title in USS TITAN Federation starship series with Deanna Troi 🖖
by this time the Titan is rather old and hardly a command vessel.
I hate saying this but this is the most unbelievable and ridiculous battle scene on Star Trek. It’s more like a scene out of Star Wars. Too many ships packed too close together. Not enough suspense either in this scene. I’m excited about Q coming in season 2. Hopefully they do a better job and make it more like the Star Trek we all remember.
Well that comment didn't age well. At least there was Season 3.
@@pigs18 kowtowing to fans because those fans have their head up their asses and tell the same old story as before is awesome. Brain dead fans are brain dead.
Star Trek just feels like Star Wars with everything.
Could have obliterated the Romulan fleet, they're too dangerous to be kept alive.
No reason to do that, we saw in the series that a lot of Romulans are just depressed refugees with no home. The Tal Shiar is literally a rump state of its own with no connection to the people
Damn Riker is even vicious
riker can target a warp core on a ship that has none ... wow
So you want to sterilze a planet? Riker:.....Not this time.
Chills.
Planetary sterilization pattern five. That implies that there are at least a total of five different patters she could choose from to sterilize a planet. Do the Tal Shiar not know the meaning of overkill?
They didn't learn from the Omarion Nebula ..
Maybe patterns reflect what kind of resistance or other defenses they expect to face?
No.
Romulans order their planet destruction like they order fast food. As a combo and compliments of a loyal establishment. Jo Lan Tru
"Planetary sterilization pattern #5." Holy crap they must do a lot of planetary sterilization. Well, it's not as bad as them troopers in Star Wars trying to remember "what was Order 66 again?"
What is the name of rikers ship? USS yanghay, janghay Shanghai I don't know how to write it
Prepare this scan that prepare to fire again engage them yawn.
gotta be one of the best moments in star trek history
Couldn't agree more with you mate
@@will2klove patrick stewart gives a really well considered performance in this series, he's still picard with the picard determination but he has a vulnerability which poked at my heart strings a few times throughout watching this series, looking forward to the next ones
That scene in DS9's Profit and Lace, when Quark was trying to get away from the male ferengi was a better moment in Star Trek history than this.
The only good thing this show can deliver is nostalgia.
Only if you are a hater. I loved everything about this show. Too bad you are too jaded to appreciate it.
@@talyn3932 no I was prepared to like it
Plot hole: She's been the head of Star Fleet security for a number of years, don't you think she knows about these ships?
He knows he is just reminding her
He's saying exactly what his ship is and she knows he's not kidding. That's not a plot hole my man.
I haven't had the chance to watch any new Trek, but if this is any indication, they got a lot of the tone right but the editing feels like Star Wars.
Sterlization pattern....... number five?????? Wut? What do patterns 1-4 involve that could be different from 5?
or 6 through 10?
I would say for different circumstances. Are you sterilizing a settlement, a town, a city, a continent, or all landmass on the face of an entire planet? Are you wanting to bring down a mountain on an extensive cave system? I expect they have to do with fire pattern spacing and frequency and types of weapons used.
KuraMad2000 NO sterilize #5. #5 alive.
Gonna look up that blonde actress. She's looking good on here
She was one of the main characters on The Newsroom
That struck a cord with her lol
Here comes the marines
Commodore Oh lost her shit when Riker started attacking her personally.
Maggie a trek actor now.
When Star Trek becomes a video game. Insert quarter, please......
Riker really is a better Kirk than Kirk. No wonder Shatner didn't like how Frakes nailed it.
This is what happens when you need money. Sad seeing Patrick whoring himself out for some easy $$$
Isnt vike sector where first romulan story line starts?
Why does the bridge look like a casino?
Dont you just "love" how the Romulan ships look like bloody Quinjets from Marvel, and the Federation "Squadron", is basically an entire fucking fleet, made up of a hundred of the EXACT, SAME, SHIP!
Andrew Probert, for the love of the Great Bird of the Universe, deliver us from this absolute cluster of a mess.
I hope season one was simply a bad dream.
It was. You'll be able to tell because Season Two will be a nightmare.
Star Trek: Riker!!!!
It cannot be a good sign that she has (at least) five planetary sterilisation patterns
2:38 should have warped behind them
Which ship is he on, looks like a modern Enterprise?
It Zhang He type class battlecruiser, which is identical to the Avengerclass cruiser. The other ships are unknown but could be same with altered appearance.
the Enterprise F would not be a Zheng He class.
He is on the USS Copy-Paste!
Were starfleet and the Romulans both using holographic decoys here to make their fleets look larger than they were?
i love this moments but my only question would be how there long range or close range sensors didn't pick almost 100 ship coming in warp speed.
Because they decided to be Star Wars instead of Star Trek.
They were distracted by the La Serena hologram fleet, and sensors normally only detect ships coming out of warp.
Dramatic effect
@@SantomPh Ummmmm no you're thinking of ships coming out of hyperspace in starwars.
And no one anywhere during production, or in the screening room had the guts to stand up and say "This is substandard, cheap crap!" And this is exactly how and why the quality of shows these days *is* substandard cheap crap.
Riker is the only good thing about that entire episode jeeez
Sounds like star wars
where did the signal go?
What are the other 4 patterns for sterilisation?
Is it me or were the Romulan tactics here really poor?
Very poor, usually if they are threatened they attack regardless of the odds against them. Now if it was Klingon's, it would be a whole different story
William Love
I though Romulus only made a move if they know victory is assured.
This seems way more like a Klingon move.
@@will2klove This was the Tal Shiar and these tactics fit them. This is exactly what they tried to the dominion at the omicron nebula and they lost their entire fleet to a trap.
