I was stationed at Edwards 78-82 The big hangar and verious maintenance shops to the left side and the old control tower to the Right ......brings back some good memories, aircraft were different T-38, A-37, F-4s ,F-15s F16s... Space shuttles, B-1As . Edwards was A happening and fun base in the late 70s early 80s for an airplane nut like me! All ex Thunderbird F-4s too.
Back in those days it was common for pilots wanting to set speed records in the air. In 1980s I talked with someone who worked as an electronics tech at Edwards, he said him and his friends also wanted to set speed records with their cars. He said one time he got from Edwards to Lancaster in 16 minutes. Can get up to 120 or so MPH on the straight highways, he figured how to take those 90 degree turns at about 60 mph (I still don't understand how that was done). All the roads are straight and laid out in a grid on the flat Mojave Desert. Some of the intersections have stop signs, these were usually put up after a fatality crash at an intersection.
Whoa ! How cool is the Corvette at the beginning!!! So cool seeing all these aircraft! As a kid back then, I think I built every one of those planes and planted the seed for me to fly ! Thanks for posting! 🇺🇸💙🇺🇸💙🇺🇸💙🙋♂️👍🖖🏻
used to fall asleep in the XF-92A Cockpit when it was in Bld 13 at WPAFB, my reserve unit did a lot of the restoration sheet metal work on it. I did not see it in the film here
I didn't see an XF-92 or F-4 in the video I did see the F-80/T-33 F84F ThunderStreak, F-86, F-86 Saber dog, F-89 Scorpion, F-94 Starfire, F-100, F-102, F-104, F-105, and an F-106 but no Phantoms or XF-92...
Seeing the F-100 brought back memories. I first saw a pair fly over our location near a treeline adjacent to a rice field we were pinned down in. Those guys put down some serious ordnance in their first pass. After a second pass, we were no longer under fire by the NVA. I always thought that the "Hunn" was both a beautiful aircraft, and a blessing. Thanks for making an old soldier remember why our country was so great.
Thanks!

I'm going to share this with my mother. Her uncle was an Air Force test pilot at Edwards when this footage was shot.
At 2:04 , that's a famous photo of all the jets together from above. One of my favorites 😎

And an F-101.
All the century fighters…
Always Vigilant.
That F-80 must have been one of the last in USAF service
