I think the ruined bricks you found would be the old shunting box. The wooden part of the structure was saved, and is now a bird hide by the river ouse next to the railway out of Lewes towards Newhaven/Eastbourne
There are more and more rumours about the reopening of the Lewes to uckfield line and the line from uckfield to tonbridge. It will be interesting to see how they go through Barcombe Mills and isfield
Indeed, although the Uckfield - Lewes closure was not a Beeching cut. The only reason it closed was to make way for the Phoenix Causeway bridge in Lewes. The original plan to rebuild the railway on its original route (entering Lewes via Hamsey) was abandoned when it was found that some of the bridges over the river needed a lot of work. Rather than spend money maintaining the asset, British Rail closed the entire line.
Network Rail did plan to electrify the from Oxted to Uckfield but now that is total of the cards and it was a weak bridge at Barcombe Mills that closed the line from Uckfield to Lewes and not Dr Beaching also I use to live just outside Uckfield until 1990 and there was talk of reopening the line to Lewes way back then so I can't see the part of the line being reopening in my life time and the Uckfield to to Tonbridge that's an other story
Thank you. I know they are pushing and campaigning to get this re opened and it is being looked into seriously. But no movement as of yet. And this will be very expensive to reinstate. Though personally I am sure the passenger numbers would be good?

Thank you Dr Beaching for destroying our rail system.

Short term thinking, yet again from a publicly-owned corporation that should have known better. @@paulj922
Brilliant video! You would've thought the local authority or someone would've taken all the brick etc. They could've been reused.
