i have the brand new kit. it has the detachable back plate. '03 TJ rubicon, the lights are in, but i wasn't lucky. i have the EVAP canister, so had to pull all that apart. wired it up properly, and got Hyper-Flash. Hyper and i didn't even have to have the headlights on for it. worse with the headlights on. put in-line Resistor (supplied 25W 15Ohm) on Yellow lead, and it did NOTHING. so instead i installed it the way a Resistor is supposed to be by jumping the Flasher line with the Ground line, and everything worked, until i started hearing Arc'ing... Shut off the vehicle, and now i have a CEL with an error code on my dash.. pulled the stupid Resistor. installed Novita LM470 (5-pin), and it all worked. buttoned everything back up and now it's great, except i keep the CEL (in Aux/Acc mode). i'll look up the code later. easy swap turned into a minor project tbh. thx for your video, it all helped.
Ohh man!! Sounds like a great time lol. Glad our video helped and you got it all sorted! I have the Novita relay already in so thankfully I won't have to deal with that. Not looking forward to doing these on a 03+ Jeep haha. Just got lucky on my 02+
Man, I am about to go through this. I do already have LED lights on the rear and they all need to have the flasher relay replaced, already have one installed. I am dreading removing that evap canister, though... any tips you can share?
Found a video from Elevated Jeeps channel that goes through removing this charcoal canister on the 03-06 TJ models, recommend ya take a look, its not hard to remove, just annoying.
We haven't had to deal with it (YET) since this is an 02' it's in a different location. We're going to be installing the new updated set of these on a 04' LJ soon so we'll have video on it then. Sorry we couldn't be much help! I had to keep halogen bulbs on the side markers with an LM470 relay in order to keep the issues away
I didn't know there was a difference in canister location. Tyler has a 04' LJ so the next time we get tail lights we'll install them on that and make a video 👍
Did the Harbor Freight lights have a resistor installed? Once I hooked up the right taillights the turn signals flashes fast. Unhooked the right side and the left flashed normal. Reconnect and they both flash fast again.
Not that I'm aware of. I had the same issue and ended up swapping them out. I didn't have side marker lights hooked up at the time and once I put them back in and used halogen bulbs it solved my issues. I have the Novita LM470 Flasher relay as well
How in the world did you get the nuts on passengers side? I can’t even get my hand up there and am considering taking the wheel off and removing the inner fender. Drivers side has a little more room to work behind. Please help
I folded the inner fender liner up. If u start at the back of the Jeep u can kind of feel the opening. I popped off one of the push clips on one side but the other I just peeled the liner back
@@413BROS thanks for the fast reply! Started messing with them today but got sidetracked. I’ll let you know when I get them installed on my 03’ TJ. The video was very helpful!
@@413BROS I got the driver side installed and it looks awesome! Blinker works fine, brake lights work fine, running lights and hazard work fine. Only problem is when you have running lights on, blinker blinks rapidly. When running lights are off, blinker blinks at normal speed. Did I get something wired backwards? Here is how I wired them: Black/Yellow to Yellow Running Green/Red to Red Brake Violet/Black to White Reverse Thanks again!
CORRECT COLOR MATCHES: Lamp Black to ground bolt Lamp Yellow to black and yellow Lamp Red to green/brown and red Lamp White to Purple and white Edit: These worked for my 04 LJ
I installed thes and had same issues, no flashing when the running lights are on . Led flasher is installed . Has anybody found a soulution, regular led tailamps work fine. Is it the EMC technology they claim to have ?
I actually just fixed them. All needed to do was install small 194 bulb in Parallel with the turn signal lamp circuit at the tail light to make them flash properly with the running lights on. Alternatively you can use a led taillight balancing resistor, but these get quite hot. The bulb was a much easier fix.
You're welcome! I have aftermarket front signals that are led and there's not enough load even with that relay so if u have all your bulbs up front still you should be totally fine
So I just bought this Jeep and at first just changed the tail light bulbs to led, and the front turn and marker light to led. But today I just put in some led halo headlights and the same tail lights you featured. Doing that relay looks so much easier than doing what others suggested with the load resistors or decoders.
It's super easy! Keep the side bulbs on the fenders (194) halogen and you can run the front (3157) with LEDs. Otherwise you will run into load issues even with the Novita LM470. And congratulations on the new Jeep!
I installed these. Everything works great until i turn the headlights on. With headlights on the flashers stop. I checked all connections and ground. Any pointers
I installed a lm470 relay and it's still doing the same. Turn signals do not work with running lights on. I sent them back to Amazon and got replacements. They still do not work right
Sorry to hear that Dave! I would suggest getting different lights all together. These old Jeeps have some weird electrical quirks that make changing things to led difficult with some sets of lights. Keep the relay in and swap them out for better lights. Now that you have the relay you can swap the front signals for leds as well. Just keep the side lights on the fender flares halogen and you'll be gold. I know my Harbor Freight led tail lights have never done me wrong after years
I have installed it, but as soon as i press brake running lights disappear and comes back when i release break, same thing when its indicating and if i press brake indicator light stop and when i release break its starts blinking again Can you please help?
Additionally: I bought these rear tail lights. They're a MESS! The mounting bolts are not compatible with existing mounting holes. That means you'll have to DRILL out the holes (and forever destroy the tapped threads). Then, you'll have to figure out how to get your hand behind the holes and attach the nuts to the mounting bolts. I tried. I gave up. It's a TOTAL mess. Thankfully, I bought the lights on Amazon and they promptly issued me a return and a refund. My opinion: don't waste your money on these lights.
@connorfrench7968 could be different by year but I ended up removing these and advise everyone else to do the same. There's someone in the comments here who managed to get these to work correctly I just never bothered to try to. Wasn't as good as my current Harbor Freight led tails

@Nuh ohh perfect! Well check it out thanks!
How did you get those 3 10mm bolts on for the passenger side? How did you access the bolts from behind?
I went up under the fender liner, a little tricky but not bad. This Jeep also has a little body lift so that may of made it a little easier
No one posts a newer tj 04-06 with the evap canister it's infuriating

@ChiefLilly71 you're welcome! Good luck! Just keep in mind 97-01 and 02-06 did have different relays. Newer models are LM470 and older models are EP27

That's great to hear! I didn't get too far into it with them but maybe this spring I'll try that out 👍
I didn’t see you do turn signals. Did yours blink fast using turn signals like it needs a load resistor or decoder?
I used a Led Flasher relay. LM470 for 02+ models and 97-01 use a different one
Gotcha! I’m in an 02 so thank you!

I have blinkers and tail lights. But I have no brake lights. Replaced brake light switch and still nothing.
I would return them for something better honestly
Just finished installing the tail lights and reverse is not working it’s popping the reverse FUSE
Something has to be shorting out I would recheck your wiring and make sure there's no bare wire touching inside the tub
I have installed it, but as soon as i press brake running lights disappear and comes back when i release break, same thing when its indicating and if i press brake indicator light stop and when i release break its starts blinking again
Can you please help?
Sounds like there's a bad connection somewhere. Also check that your ground is clean and secure
My blinkers blink fast now
To fix that you will need a led flasher relay or resistors. The relay is very easy to do and cheap

Plus they don’t look right on a TJ, in my opinion
Ur wiring instructions are not clear at all
Just going off the wiring diagram on the box
The box does not tell you what the wires are on the factory pigtail
Yellow to purple reverse
Red to Green brake blinker
Black to black tail lights
White is ground
@@413BROSi believe this is pretty wrong. The black is ground on these. I tried doing your color matches first and half the functions worked.
