the genre is called psytrance, its was a dying genre but in 2019 stray kids released this song and brought it back which in turn help create the distinct sound they are known for now, which is noise music (its an actual genre but we all know skz does experiment with a lot of different genres like dnb, rock, psytrance, edm, etc)
awww you missed the little part in the music video at the end 😭 This song is very different because it's psychedelic, it's actually the first psychedelic Kpop song and it got a TON of hate when it was first released but it's one of my favorite skz songs. Omg you didn't like the chorus that much. Ah man that's unfortunate cause the chorus part is exactly what goes so hard. The song is literally called Side Effects for a reason. The whole song is meant to make your "head hurt" with the chorus which is full of hardcore EDM and trap beats. This song kinda turned EDM as a genre on its head cause it is used creatively to imitate the "side effects" of mental illness. Idk if you heard but in the chorus, there is a man listing out the side effects of antipsychotic drugs. This whole song has so many implied meanings to it. It could possibly be a song which criticises society for labelling people as "normal" and "abnormal". It could also refer to what the world wants from you or the external voice versus what you truly want or your inner voice. The "noise" is meant to imitate what goes on inside a person's head. It's genius! That's why only true music lovers will be able to appreciate this song.
