Thank you for documenting this journey and allowing me the opportunity to watch it. After 48 years of life, I'm finally now a motorcycle enthusiast and recently became the proud owner of a 1985 Honda Goldwing Interstate 1200. In the short 1.5 years that I've owned it I've taken it on a 1200 mile round trip from Boise, ID, to Portland, OR via Mt. St. Helens. I've never done any restoration work before, but would like to with this bike and give it the TLC it deserves.God bless you and your family.

@@earcandyengineering6389 Been there too Randy but no longer doing towers and transmitters. Nice story and being as how I live on the East Coast of FL down by your neck o the woods, it would be inspirational to sit and talk if you could find the time. No pressure whatsoever. I want to do this exact thing to my 83 Interstate. My blue of choice is the blue streak pearl from Mopar that has been discontinued lately. Sure do love that color. Not many ol wings were even painted blue. Mine is the Candy Wineberry and I do like it ok. Anyway, Same as Josh, I am a subscriber. Beer, Steak, good ol environment...............something relaxing to pick your brain and discuss Lucy would be entertaining for me.

I have that same exact bike. It was sitting in a Houston motorcycle used bike shop and the owner damn near gave it to me at a price to get it out of the way. No restoration needed. It was a garage kept with less than 70k miles when, I got it 3 years ago. I put a complete Aspencade rear box set on it. Good bike and will roll forever. The only problem was like most of them. Those headers rust out.

I'm still riding my 1980 Goldwing and I was just bouncing around the idea of restoring it as it's starting to look a bit tired, just like it's owner. Might just get to it this year. But I just about cried after I saw the first restoration wasted so badly, however I like the new colour better. Good job.

Those 1100 and 1200 'Wings are classics definitely worthy of restoration. Glad you got to feeling better and thanks for saving that beauty from the crusher, she looks gorgeous. Great choice in color, mission accomplished in keeping it current, reminds me of HD's battleship gray... if you hadn't said anything, I would never have thought it wasn't professionally painted in a down draft spray booth!!

Richard Griffin Scooter and I used to come do dances for Spring Fling in Pigeon Forge. We would bring our smaller bikes and ride all day and then play music for the GWRRA at night. Done of my favorite memories. Scooter on a XL600 and me on an old 1978 Honda Twinstar we had restored. They would fit in the truck and all the sound and lights were in the trailer.

Great job, my dream bike has always been a older Style Goldwing, well I now am the owner of a 1985 Honda goldwing limited edition 1200cc with a new stater, I always mention that due to it being a bad point of that model. I live in Oregon and plan on doing a long trip that includes FL. To visit family. Who knows maybe we will bump in to each other on the road. God Bless and keep the shinny side up.

I am the Director of Engineering for a Radio Broadcasting company. I fix transmitters, audio equipment, some computer work and the occasional broken toilet. I still have the 2001 Valkyrie Interstate. The video for that and the sound system are on this channel. Because of work, the Valkyrie has been neglected. I just ordered a new battery, choke cable and new rear drive seals. I still have to order a new rear tire. I am also going to redo the sound system again. One of the amps has a bad switch so it’s a good excuse to build something new. I am weird I guess. I enjoy working on it about as much as riding it since my best friend and riding partner passed away a few years back. He left me his 1989 Goldwing. It has 185,000 miles and is still 7 hours away in the town I moved from in March. My wife and I along with another couple are driving to pick it up next weekend.

That's a beautiful work. I just wish my friend (Korean War veteran) was still around to see it. He owned a Honda 1100 Aspencade. I had the 1100 V-Twin. We rode all over Florida together. I'm still around, but I'm the next generation (Vietnam era veteran). Paul began to have problems with the 4 carburetor system and ordered an aftermarket single carburetor system and manifold. While the bike was disassembled, he had to struggle with cancer treatments. For a few years, he was clear, but the treatments and advancing years weakened him. A man that had been riding motorcycles for over 50 years had to give them up. Sadly, the motorcycle never got put back together. Just like a Goldwing, he was greater than the sum of his parts.

I didn’t replace any rings or bearings inside engine. Never split the engine block. I did a complete overhaul years ago on a 1981 CB 900 custom. I’m not gonna do that again unless I have to.
