Great interview! I hope you both will collaborate again soon.
I started reading Zelazny this year and I was incredibly annoyed after finishing Lord of Light.
That book is refreshingly original and one of the greatest things I have ever read.
I was annoyed because I had never seen it mentioned on a "top 100 Best" list in the 15 years I have been looking at lists like that.
I don't understand why he isn't more popular.
I thought that maybe Lord of Light was the exception so I read A Rose for Ecclesiasties and it was beautiful.
So third time being a charm I read This Immortal. It was just as wonderful. I then found out it shared the 1966 Hugo award with Dune. With freakin' Dune!
And yet even non readers know of Herbert but no one has heard of Zelazny.
I'm done with my rant now 😂.
You have become one of my favorite channels for deep dives in the fiction I enjoy and you have also recharged my desire to dig into philosophy.
    Keep up the good work!

That's interesting. If this was 20 years ago, I think Zelazny was well known, a real giant in the genres. Maybe not so much today, though he certainly deserves to be well-known and read

I need to leave a second comment because I forgot to mention Tehanu.
I read it back in 2009. 500 or so books later and I still think about it all the time.
I need to read it again.

To expand on the Malazan quote - Compassion is priceless in the truest meaning of the word. It must be given freely and in abundance'.
Eternal champion - Hawkmoon? Some of the non Elric does get odd.
Regarding Glenn Cook. Much different from Dorsai. Cook is. Vietnam veteran so he zooms down to the individual squad and grunt level and the everyday soldier. He has been called the father of grimdark, even though Black Company was published before WH40K.

      I was thinking of Corum

@@GregoryBSadlerWas commenting as listening - almost done.
I remember way back when picking up Elric stuff but then get a Corum, or some other Champion, with dudes in animal helms and getting very confused. The new bind ups are gorgeous as a lot of recent cover art is boring.
I also need to reread Amber and just picked up all 10 in one book and is only about 1100 pages. I read them the first time probably 30 years ago.

@@EricMcLuen The Amber books still hold up!
