WELCOME to my 27th flight in 2017. On 18th December, I flew Japan Airlines brand new premium economy from Tokyo Narita (NRT) to Hong Kong (HKG) . The operating aircraft was a Boeing 787-9. The flight was fine and the seat was super comfortable. Unfortunately, as I was upgraded from economy to premium economy on this flight, I was not able to get a window seat, though I should not complain :D
Japan Airlines and Cathay Pacific fly to Tokyo Haneda three times a day, and Tokyo Narita six times a day with two via Taipei. Hong Kong Airlines, All Nippon Airways and Hong Kong Express are some other airlines that fly between the cities. Japan Airlines uses B777-200ER to Haneda, and B787-9 to Narita.

Thank-you for posting Jayden. This is my first JAL flight review I have watched, and I am utterly impressed! I have never witnessed such opulence invested in premium economy. A 42 inch seat pitch is long enough for me to sit very comfortably, since I am a rather tall individual. Apart from the seat amenities, I am very impressed with the impeccable grooming of the flight crew. Even the meal had a touch of class by being served in nice, solid looking dinnerware, in contrast to the utterly cheap containers I have witnessed on other airlines. I could write so much more about the video, but suffice it to say that I would look forward to flying on JAL. Thank-you again!
42 inch seat pitch really makes a big difference and makes aisle access for middle passengers easier :D

This flight presents a very good argument for Premium Economy. I love the way the seat motion and position doesn't affect other passengers around you. Honestly, I'd prefer a step up from regular economy on long-haul flights, particularly in the area of recline and overall seat comfort. Nice report - yes, over two years later, but better late than never!
I FLY THEM FROM SYD TO TYO ON DAYLIGHT FLIGHT AND HALF PRICE OF BUS AND NEARLY THE SAME AS YOU CAN USE PRIORITY CHECK/BAG ALL/QANTAS LOUNGE AND USUAL EXCELLENT SERVICE .NO YOU CANNOTLIE DOWN BUT OFTEN ON THESE FLIGHTS AS I HAVECOMMUTED TO ASIA 85 TIMES YOU WAKE UP ANYWAY NORTH OF BORNEO
85 times?! That's a hell lot of times! Yes there're so many good lounges at Tokyo and Qantas is soon renovating their Narita lounge!

What did you think of the seat? How’s the recline? Do you think it would be comfortable on a long haul flight?
I think it’d be fine! very generous recline. I thought I’d hate it because I found Cathay’s old shell seats a pain in the arse but in premium economy they’re good

Once again excellent video. I found on wiki, JAL's Boeing787-9 only has 195 seats in total, what a generous configuration.
Yes it is mate! most -8 is denser than JAL's -9!

Actually I expected the camera view for takeoff and landing... wasn't that working or isn't the IFE equipped with that?

Hi. Two questions. 1: How tall are you?(For perspective). 2: How was the "recline" on the seat. I'm trying to decide between flight JAL and AA for my flight to NRT. I'm 6' 2''. Wanna make right choice. Service would obviously be JAL, but I'm more concerned with comfort. Thank you.
Hi Matt, I was shorter than now when I filmed this video, probably 5'8 (173cm). There is no real recline with this seat, you just slide down within your 'shell' which protects the person in front of you from invading your space :D

Just got upgraded from Econ to Premium Econ with a redemption ticket. And it was the first row!!! Extra leg room really made my journey extremely comfortable (but of course no as comfortable as Business class).
Service was good and everything else was good too!

I’ve been looking forward to this review for months! I myself just flew four legs in JAL’s PE seats, and the biggest thing for me was how excellent the service was. But I did find the seat annoying, I kept sliding down it and without the footrest to brace myself, I would have been quite uncomfortable. I think they’ve done a great job to make he seat look good, but I would have preferred something that didn’t turn into a slide when reclined 😂
Yes I have got a chance to complain about JAL's service because it's really good! I'd much prefer the tradition recliner seats than slide too, it's just awkward to 'slide when reclined'! Thanks so much for watching!

I love how they guide you at the check-in. Japanese crew are one of the best in the world. The service was excellent from the check-in to until the very end of the flight

Jayden - how would you compare these JAL PE seats to the ones in Cathays A350?
I personally prefer Cathay, more storage space and I prefer actual reclining not sliding :)

The Premium Economy is top notch certainly better than Premium Economy on other Airlines. I was beyond impressed would definitely pay the extra👍

I flew PE with JAL last year and it was head and shoulders the best of its type. Great service, business class lounge access, express security. Great job. Waaay better than the BA equivalent

@@JaydenWong I was very surprised that Lounge access with a non-upgraded at airport PE cabin class is available. My wife and I are flying back from Thailand in November after visiting her family and I found JAL PE from BKK all the way to DFW via NRT, fully on JAL, not split between JAL and AA. I'm quite excited for the JAL experience in PE.
