      The story behind how you received the Google server was interesting, Nate! It must have been an honor being able to take a server like that home from a company 😲
      Also it was cool to hear your dream setup has been completed! Great job 👍

    Nice video man, i been putting off doing this for a couple weeks and know the feeling of finally getting everything setup … sucks when some containers update and then break resulting in having to reconfigure settings , and then find out just needed to delete cache or log files and run apt update & upgrade

    Hey Nate, awesome work with your videos! It's great to see someone's setups, especially as I am completely new to setting up a home server of my own up... slowly getting there though!
    Just a quick question for you if you don't mind, as I have a feeling you would be a great person to discuss this with (even on Discord if you wouldn't mind actually!)
    I am WAY too late to the NAS/data-backup scene (with the exception of GDrive, which I got forced to upgrade from free 15GB to paid 100GB) and have also recently gotten more into software and game-development as well. That said, I am feeling the itch to rebuild a small-form-factor prebuilt PC (Prodesk 800 G5) into a home-server, using Proxmox as a bootdrive, and then having a VM for the home NAS using TrueNAS Scale going 24/7 with its own dedicated HDDs in Raid1, and also a separate VM for hosting any development related containers, as well as hosting self-developed games' servers along with other game-servers for friends and I to play (Rust, Valheim, Minecraft), similar to what I assume you are doing, using a separate SSD from the boot drive SSD.
    Do you believe that this would be a good approach to this solution, or would there be a more efficient way for me to approach this do you think?
    I am sure this is a pretty heavy question to discuss over TH-cam comments lol, so if you don't mind chatting about it sometime, I would definitely owe you one!
    Cheers!

    Cute cat! GPU passthrough in Proxmox was one of my first IT home projects last year when i started university. I’m about to build my first PC but graphics card prices are killing me. I might just get a better CPU and use an older GPU since i havent been gaming much while in school. 7950X3D is calling my name lol

    I had thought you could not pass-thru RTX 30XX/40XX cards or you would get an error 43? Did something change to allow the 3060 to work now?

    • @NatesZone
      @NatesZone  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You can pass through GTX 900 series up to the latest RTX 4000 series. Anything GTX 700 series and older cannot be passed through. Nvidia used to not allow any consumer grade cards to be passed through but they changed their minds later.

      @@NatesZoneI don’t know why they didn’t always allow cards to be passed when using just the regular way all Gpus work makes no sense at all

    • @NatesZone
      @NatesZone  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@cmoneytheman I guess it's Nvidia being Nvidia. All I can think of is maybe in the past they wanted you to buy their more expensive server class cards to be able to make virtual machines. But my guess is they would actually make more money by allowing consumer cards to be able to make virtual machines. After all their consumer cards these days are quite expensive for a lot of people. And they cost more now than they did years ago. But there are enough people out there that will still buy these newer cards even if the price is high. Just my guess though. I could be wrong.

    Is the performance the same as with using the regular way without using a VM,and is VMware or proc the best program to use for gaming with a VM

    • @NatesZone
      @NatesZone  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      When running any hypervisor there is going to be a slight drop in performance. But it's so small these days that I wouldn't worry about it. As for which hypervisor to use I would absolutely avoid VMWare and go for Proxmox. VMWare recently has had a ton of controversy since Broadcom bought out the company. Basically in a nutshell VMWare costs like 10X more for the same software now that Broadcom acquired VMWare. Also there has been a lot of security breaches with VMWare for a while now. Proxmox gives you features for free that VMWare puts behind an expensive paywall. For example cloning Virtual Machines, and making automatic backups of Virtual machines.

      @@NatesZone i only care about the save state feature for a couple games i wanna play how do i find the host number

    • @NatesZone
      @NatesZone  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well if you use Proxmox it will show the server IP address along with the port 8006 when you finish installing it. Once it fully boots it will show it on a black screen. In Linux the command to find your servers IP is: ip a And the IP should look something like this: 192.168.X.X or 10.X.X.X The "X" could be any number.

    • @cmoneytheman
      @cmoneytheman 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@NatesZone oh I'm on windows would it work the same with showing the address,so you said the performance compared to running without using a VM can basically only be noticed if a person nitpicks

    • @NatesZone
      @NatesZone  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      On Windows you would launch command prompt and type: ipconfig Same thing as Linux it should show your IPV4 address as something like 192.168.X.X or 10.X.X.X
