      Living in Mobile Alabama Hi! We live in Southern California and looking to sell our house here and relocate . We've been looking at Arizona, Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama as possible places. I've been looking at property in Alabama and for sure, it's much affordable than many places.

    Grew up in suburban Minneapolis, lived in Mobile from 2016 to 2020. Bought a brand new townhouse in Spanish Fort in 2018 and I have been renting it out to come back to part of the year. Ive lived in Vegas and DC as well, im back in Minneapolis and I miss Mobile so much. I was single, in my late 20's, made a decent living and Mobile was the most fun I had in any of the places I have lived. The gulf is truly one of America's hidden gems and I hope it doesnt get too crowded over the next 20 years. There is something to be said about a greater metro area of 420K, its just the right size. Something I'd like to point out to the single people wondering about the dating scene here, if you put your best foot forward and put in some effort, it blows all the major cities away. So many cute, single girls that were so easy to talk to and very down to earth. People actually live life in the southeast, they arent parked on instagram or taking pictures for instagram like they are in any of Americas major metro areas. The food, the people, the women, the landscape and the way of life is so wholesome here and the overall vibe of the Gulf Coast is absolutely unbeatable.

    Jeff, this is a super video. In a lot of city’s that I have visited all the realtors have a channel on public TV that shows houses. But the best part of the video is that they give more about things to do within 50 to 100 miles of the city. Restaurants, stores, school, churches, ball fields for the kids even dealerships. It is just a big advertising channel. That is usually the first channel I go to when I travel. Housing is important but once people move to a new area entertainment is also important. Keep Momma and the kids happy is a good idea.
    Again I love the video. You have done a good job.

    Hey, Jeff, great vids. Realtor up here in Toronto dreaming of snowbirding somewhere in the future :) I think Mobile and AL in general could get more retirees in the future. So many positives that most people don't know about. I like Mobile's "Goldilocks" size too, not too big, not too small, just right. Closest I've been is Panama City, FL. Most Canadians never think of the panhandle, let alone Alabama. Too bad. Most northerners only think of FL, often because their friends or family are there. But if those considerations don't play into our decision when the time comes, I'd definitely give Mobile a look. Northern Gulf beaches, including Alabama's, gotta be the nicest in the US. Have a great year!

      It really depends on what area you want to live in, and, rentals are not as available now as they used to be because many landlords are selling the property because the property value has increased so much over the last year, but, you could get a three bedroom two bath home in the $1000 - $1200 range. It’s crazy!

    I lived overseas most of my life, but my husband is from the south so we moved to west mobile and I am having a hard time. I can't walk anywhere there are no sidewalks. I've gained 15 pounds because I have to drive everywhere its not like that in Europe. Your video has helped me because I have been crying to my hubby wanting to move. I am a vegetarian so the restaurants means nothing to me. I like to get out and run, walk exercise, theater and art... you mentioned the beach. Is it close, can I do my morning runs on the beach? I live off of Cody Road and Cottage Hill...

      @livinginmobile  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So great to hear from you. I know that Mobile can be a culture shock compared to living overseas. But, with that said, there are certainly a lot of bonuses. The southern hospitality, and the food is great, but because of being a vegetarian, you will definitely have some limitations. As for the beach, I have another video about Dauphin Island, which is only about 35 minutes from where you live. If you really wanted to walk on the beach, you could be there super fast as an option. Also, cottage Hill Park or metal of honor park is also a great place to walk as well. But, with Publix coming to McFarland and College Hill, that would likely open up more opportunities for neighborhood walking as I can only imagine they will be putting in sidewalks.

      Actually, at this exact moment, we are experiencing more rain than we have had in a very long time in Mobile County. It has been crazy. Mobile in general is one of the rainiest cities in the entire country. But, it really depends on where you live. If you live in the Midtown area, often they experience more flash flooding and you hear stories of people's cars getting flooded and streets getting flooded. However, that is pretty rare with most places in Mobile. It's definitely not common for streets to be flooded. Just know this, Mobile has a lot of rain, you just have to keep an umbrella in your car at all times!

I just looked up a few examples. In the suburbs I found a 10 acre parcel for 300K, closer in town, it was about double that. On the outskirts of town I found a 9 acre parcel for 90K. I shop local grocers, such a Rouse's Market & avoid the Chinese manufactured junk @ all cost. I purchase all of my fruit & veggies at Session's or Lil' Brian's. I purchase all of my shrimp in Bayou La Batre at Rodknokers straight off the boat. I make a point to buy local whenever possible. Otherwise we fish for what we eat.
    And there absolutely IS racism in Mobile. Everyone in Midtown knows this if they've ever experienced public school. It isn't bad for the children until middle school. And it's minority racism against the whites. Purchased a home in Irvington to get them away from this issue, as I could NOT afford private schooling.
    I have also been blatantly ignored in various service & retail industries receiving lesser than par service again & again. Also in the workforce this problem is obvious, especially if one is working with a group of minorities. A LOT of Mobilians do not prefer yanks either. If you don't have a southern accent, many folks will remain guarded.
    Besides that, how about covering all of the disc golf parks available, & places for parents to take their children or family, such as Bellingrath Gardens. Also pointing out the entire city nearly shuts down by 9 pm. This area is culture shock for those moving from a large metropolitan area. We also have a major issue with litter. This will be the first thing noticed by many. I personally love it here & that's for the the outward beauty of the rivers & bayous & flora. This area is known as the North American Rain Forest. The Ranger center in Ocean Springs at the National Seashore park has a wonderful film. (If they ever opened back up)

      Thank you for the reply. You are the 2nd person this week who has mentioned Disc golf. I will have to add that to the list for sure. Also parks, yes, I need to do that as well. We do have several to choose from.

    How bad are hurricanes here? I’m dying to get out of California someone save me from this hell of a state 😭

    • @livinginmobile
      @livinginmobile  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Lindsay, tell us how you really feel, LOL. Seriously though, hurricanes have become a part of life, and they often aren’t as bad as they are portrayed in the media.
      For example, we have one coming close to New Orleans this next week, and most people are very calm, and will just go with the flow because ultimately, there’s no way to impact the outcome. People here are very resilient.

    Great video!! Do you know what type of jobs are thriving there? Also is it a good city for singles in their 30's? How did covid19 effect this area?

      bruh you asked the most right questions and got none response for either question I'm from daulphin island but moved after my father passed I'm in mississippi but you had asked about jobs it really depends on what you're looking for and as the covid 19 pandemic goes I still have family scattered out there and neither one has gotten it but that doesn't mean they can let their guard down but like I said it depends on what you're looking for and your life style of living

    How is the crime rate in Alabama? Also am thinking its not as diverse as LA or NYC with different multicultural backgrounds.

    • @livinginmobile
      @livinginmobile  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t think it’s fair to compare or expect Mobile to be as diverse as two of the largest cities in the United States, but I think our city is very diverse considering the size. As for the crime rate, I think it will vary and be different depending on the area of town and the different factors that are involved. I wish I had a better answer for you, but there are so many variables when looking at the crime rate and diversity of our city.
