  • ‪@KZRevival‬ Completed cleanup of my custom 1978 KZ1000. This bike has a drag bike style with a stretched swingarm and raked front end. I added lots of stainless steel nuts and bolts along with polished original hardware. Lots of newly powder coated and chromed parts. I added spoked rims and a wider rear tire.

      Thanks man. What kind of work have you done to pull 158hp out of your engine? I'm putting the engine for this bike together with some andrews 3x cams, over sized valves, a port job with 1105 pistons spinning a KZ900 crank. If you don't mind, I would like some details about your bike.

      Thanks Victor. I'm a fan of the Kickstart as well, it's too bad I can't use it because it will smack into the pipe. I would need to bend a small offset. I don't think the chrome could handle it.

    That's one fine looking and sounding KZ man. I am Kaw. man from before I could ride, then I got my first trip 400 and rode that for about two months and went and traded it in on my first KZ 650 . Now I have a 78 KZ1000, 76 KZ900 and stach of parts, I was going to start buying restore and sell and so on. Life got in the way and now I'm over that, don't know if I'm going to restore what I have or just get rid of everything. But seeing yours gets me thinking again. IMO well worth all the effort you put into the Bike in the mid 1980s i did alot of riding in SouthFlorida where i grew up we used to do day trips fronThe FortLauderdale area north on Highway 27 , Circle Lake Okeechobee and have a bite to eat at some Family Style Restaraunt that was owned by Three or four Sisters we always hung out way too long and needed to haul Ass home Southbound on the Florida Turnpike to make it back in time for the evening shift it was a. group of all types off bikes including Harleys ,Gold Wings and some of the newer Sport Bikes r hat Kawasaki was. putting out i chose to ride a mostly Stock 78 KZ 1000 with a nonBaffeled Exhaust and there was always something special about that Motorcycle and the placement of the motor /Center Of Gravity and sound that made it feel in a good way like a Gyroscope was under me ! it wasn’t the fastest in the group but. i could lay down on the tank and make it be i just loved riding that thing and always seemed to have the most fun on those trips always at a consistent over six numbers on the Speedo i also thought that bike was one of the best for riding a Female passenger unlike Cruisers. you didn’t run any backrest on the tail and Momma had to hold on tight enough you could still talk without any hemet electronics

      Thanks for the compliment. I agree with you about the look and comfort of these old Kawasakis. I've been loving this bike for 30 years, and I've put lots of miles on lots of road trips. Adding modern premium rear shocks is the best thing for these older bikes. I wish I had done the change years ago. This video doesn't show it, but the bike now has YSS shocks, and they are nice. This bike is currently getting some engine mods, but when it's finished I going to make an update video regarding the latest improvements. Thanks for the comment and ride safe.

    Nice bike, One thing you didn't mention is the stretch mod. Absolutely not slamming it, but what is the advantage to stretching a swing arm. I can see why drag racers do it for wheelie control, but I see a ton of street bikes done this way. Is it just for looks. My old Z1R had about 120hp and I didnt have a wheelie problem. Anyway, great lookin bike

      When I bought the bike 30 years ago, I had a list of must haves for the guy who was selling and putting the bike together. I wanted it stretched, raked, a sidewinder header and the engine covers chrome. It was all for the look, and this look still does it for me now. All that for around $2k.

      @KZRevival  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, I've been struggling with jetting since I did the first start. These carbs were perfect when this bike was a 1075cc engine. Everything changed once I bored it to 1105cc, added .418" cams and ported the head. Hanging idle is the biggest frustration. New intakes, new springs on the mechanical advancer, as well as cleaned and greased posts for weights. Sprayed everything with starting fluid, no change. I'm back to tweaking the fuel mixture screw after putting larger pilots in.
      I live in Illinois near Dyer Indiana.

    • @KZRevival
      @KZRevival  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The pipes have seen 2 rebuilds and head work. Jetting was done with any performance work. The bluing has been there for many years but the chrome still looks good so I don't mind it. If the pipes were still available I would probably replace them but alas they are discontinued. Star Pro Series is a header I've had and liked but at $1200 I think this one still has a few years left. By the way, I used to get the Star headers for around $400 back in the 90's.

    • @KZRevival

      The wheels were mags originally, 19/16. I just changed them to spokes. They are both KZ hubs. The front is a 19, and I changed the rear to a 17. The 17 gives me a lot more tire options.

    • @KZRevival

      Both front and rear are KZ hubs. I have a motorcycle shop not far from me that's KZ oriented. I went there and told the crusty old cigar smoking owner I wanted disc brake hubs for a KZ that I could clean up and bring back to him for lacing. He came back with a nasty looking front and rear wheel. He cut the spokes and handed me the hubs. The year is unknown and unimportant. You can find what you need on eBay. I bought my stainless steel spokes and rim rings from Buchanan Spoke and Rim. Buchanan has a wheel lacing service, but you need to supply the hubs. I hope this info helps you out.

      The geometry, of the bike is all wrong, I not saying what you have done to components, is necessarily bad, but the basic geometry of what makes a motorcycle move and handle has been distorted, as have the aesthetics, you have made a " basis for an excellent road bike into a I don't know what". Stretching road bikes, makes no sense in my mind! Most necessary, functional, attributes are lost to a perceived image.
