the thing is, and its not shown in the show, izumi taught them specifically to NEVER perform human transmutation, but the whole reason they got an alchemy teacher was to learn enough to be able to perform it so they actively went against what she taught them
there was a scene on the manga that the anime didn't adapted. When greed asks Alphonse about his brother, Al says that "he is not here" and the chimeras misunderstand as he is dead. And then they try to console Alphonse for his loss. It's a really sweet and funny scene that shows how they are not pure evil
Another clarification (you probably already know this but just in case). The transmutation circle does not need to be drawn on the ground, Mustang has it drawn on it's gloves, and Scar's tattoos act as his transmutation circle. The ones that don't use a drawn transmutation circle always clap their hands beforehand.
Just wanted to say that at the beginning of the episode when Izumi tells Ed that she cant accept the decision he has made she wasn't talking about the human transmutation, she was talking about Ed becoming a state alchemist.
I always thought it was more to show that they’re advanced in the underworld when it comes go things like that, to the point that majority of world believed Shou Tucker to be the #1 authority on chimaeras… as well as Shou also believing himself to be. That Shou’s Tuckers chimaeras have been the most advanced chimaeras ever made. While there’s really only a select few who are aware of the underworld and just how much further along advanced they are when it’s comes to all that.
There’s one scene in the manga that was left out the anime where Bido approaches Ed and Al asking for spare change or something and Ed immediately runs away yelling “get a job!”. He had no way of knowing Bido was up to anything, we can only assume that’s just how Ed responds to any homeless person he encounters. This whole section is a little more extensive, such as a subplot about Ed heading away to a nearby military base to get his state alchemist license renewed, which explains why a certain character suddenly turns up at the beginning of the the next episode. Izumi is actually the first person to track down Greed and Al, but she agrees to walk away because Alphonse wants to get more information out of Greed, with her telling Ed where to find them once he gets back to Dublith.
@@withxoutxlife i saw it first time bcz i usually watch reactions 5-6 at a time so due to time constrain i skip discussion but i watched it today and it was really interesting i loved it :)
As a rare commentor, we love the discussion! It's interesting to see you guys guess where this story is going to and your reasons, love the engagement!
@@MaxFalange Don't think it's really a spoiler. They've noticed the tattoo is like alchemy transmutation circles and it gives ability. Talking about the story behind them would be the spoiler to avoid.
@@MaxFalange If it’s going to be explained specifically at any point in the future why he’s not using a circle then I would say it may be a spoiler but it’s kinda meant to be a information the writer assumed no explanation needed and viewer will just pick up. No other reactors I’ve seen needed this part to be clarified, they just kinda get it. I think both of them just missed putting 2 and 2 together (some kind of drawings on arms = some kind of alchemic power)
I watch the discussions and enjoy your theories (whether you’re on the right track or not). I binged this show in a weekend and didn’t allow myself the opportunity to theorize (which I regret now), so seeing you do that compensates for me missing out on that). Keep it up 👍
Hey, just wanted to say carbon isn't a metal. The reason why carbon is essential to greed's ultimate shield is the same reason why graphene was often called the super material of the future. If you arrange carbon in a certain way, it becomes incredibly tough *and* energy-absorbant, which in fiction often means that things like conventional bullets and swords become useless against it.
I blame Damascus steel for this. Not the junk you buy nowadays, but the original that had carbon steel and they didn't figure out why it was strong until the 1990s
graphene is incredibly soft, remember pencis you write with, that is carbon going off on light pressure. if you arrange carbon another way under high pressures you get diamonds, which are among the hardest occuring natural materials. carbon in general as a chemical element is pretty versatile, that is why so many compounds of organic life are built with it at the center. there may be other life forms based on other elements, since it is chemically very similar, silicium would be another candidate, but so far we have not found anything that doesnt use carbon as its main building block inside nature on this earth.
I actually skip a lot of reactor's discussions, but something about your guys' discussions are so engaging. You bounce off each other really well, you're clever, funny, etc. Keep it up!
There is not a single bad character in this whole show! Name any character, ppl love them. Izumi is just perfect, same goes for Winry or the military characters and everyone to come. Interesting, funny, perfect lines when it gets serious, great backstorIes, not too much, not over the top, just spot on. Its one of the many reasons why this is the best show ever made. Add the great actors in all languages (at leat I know japanese, english and german dub, they are fantastic and thats not something we say often in germany), the great pacing, the mix of humor and tears, world building, twists, motivation of enemies, music and openings etc... you will find something new to just hype every episode. Izumi is a great example of that, I really love her ❤
As a point of clarification, no, creating a hominculous is not human transmutation. When the show uses that term it refers specifically to those attempting to resurrect the dead. A more accurate term would be "attempts to transmute a human soul". Scar, for example, though he uses alchemy directly on other people to kill them, is not performimg "human transmutation" either.
You'll have been told it but after they got pregnant, Izumi miscarried, she then tried Human Transmutation to bring her baby back and had her ability to ever have kids taken from her again as part of her womb was removed, which is why she is always throwing up blood. Also, she's still awesome. She kicks ass in FLIP FLOPS FOR GODS SAKE
21:43 Oof, do people not watch the discussions? I always stick around to hear them, it’s always nice hearing your guys’s theories and thoughts after every episode. Getting things wrong is part of the charm; everyone gets at least a few things wrong whenever they try to speculate about any kind of story they’re getting into. And even when you guys *are* wrong, me personally, it’s not even that I get frustrated, it’s more like I go “Huh, I can see why they’d think that.” Of course, it’s different when you’re totally off-base after a series already explained certain things or how a theory could be wrong, but I don’t always retain everything I hear after an episode either, so that’s also normal. Everyone misses things the first time around, people tend to just not realize it when they look back at other people’s first times after they’ve already watched a show. xD
You two never fail to make me laugh. You were hilarious this reaction. Thanks for being you. 💙 (also as everyone has has said Izumi is definitely top shelf quality)
Chimera a creature from Greek Mythology. A monster resembling a lion in the forepart, a goat in the middle, and a dragon behind. in this show, a chimera, is a n alchemically created creature with various combinations of animals. Remember how much of a big deal it was for Tucker to make a talking Chimera that he would do that to his kid? But the government can make Greed's crew. It just shows how meaningless all that time and pain really was.
The wild thing about one of Carlie's theories is that if FMAB was never released, she'd be on the right track. I won't specify which theory it is to avoid spoiling them, but the other viewers will probably get what I'm saying.
Your episode discussions are definitely on the better end. Maybe some of the best. It is the right length and on topic. FMAB requires people to pay attention and give full attention to the story, and you are doing that.
I love how your theory is correct but for the wrong FMA lol The original FMA Anime was made before the manga quite finished being written, so the author consulted the show creators on making their own alternative ending with a totally different explanation for homunculi, etc. It's not as good plot-wise imo but it's still very good and emotionally impactful.

Come on guys is not that difficult to figure this, Alchemy is chemistry so an Alchemist is basically a Chemist with superior knowledge and with an extra boost of energy and the link is in the transmutation matrix which they use to draw Power/Energy to make or change an object or Material/Matter/Element .
Not going to comment how much of your theories are off or not for this show, however, and you could consider it spoiler for the 2003 show to say it if you want so I will give a spoiler warning: in 2003 version you nailed the plot of the second half, little off on who though. In the old show there were some different homunculi, it actually is both how they have so much info and yes one is Izumi's son. Gluttony is actually an unknown, Sloth is Ed and Al's mom. Greed is pretty much the same. Wrath was Izumi's son. Just cause it is the only one left, I cant say Pride's whole deal as that one might spoil Brotherhood, but Pride was unique as being the oldest and special in that they could age like a normal human and thus blend in well, Pride in Brotherhood and Pride in the 2003 show are not the same person though, nor do they have the same abilities, it would still give away something if I said too much more than that though. Also side point, Tucker also lives on in 2003, he was not killed by Scar only imprisoned, and is in secret trying to clone and bring Nina back but can not totally separate her form Alexander after they were combined, though he tries many many times, also the whole no soul thing... yea it was a very different show after episode 25, honestly 25 episodes basically spanned the first 9 of brotherhood, given a bit more details in a few spots and a couple totally original things, after that they sort of had a mini time skip, like a few weeks or something to explain why it doesn't just connect immediately and they had their own thing entirely from that point, different big bad, plot, etc. both are good too. One more little fact on 2003, the world is alternate reality Germany, im not sure if it still is in Brotherhood, it is the same sort of set up so maybe, but the movie confirmed it for the old show, this world is just Germany just prior to WW2 I think it was, if the world had decided to pursue Alchemy as the dominant science as opposed to our progression with tech and stuff.
