I also used to live in Nice. For almost 3 years. It was the best 3 years of my life. We started our married life with my husband there, and I still remember our strolls on the promenade, climbing mont boron, and having a glass of rosé in pepinos, where you had your coffee. It is a pity there is not that much employment there because if it was our choice, we would probably go back tomorrow. I still dream of maybe, buying an apartment there in the future.. One can only dream
The French Riviera like Nice, Cannes, Saint-Tropez, etc... is more suitable for wealthy foreigners who don't have to work there but have steady stream of high income coming from overseas. The area, in general, is so much cleaner, nicer, more extravagant, less crowded, and less stressful than Paris. The only drawback is the limited job opportunities for foreigners who need to work in order to pay their bills.
I discovered your Chanel in 2018 when I was planning my spring 2019 Paris trip. I enjoyed Paris so much, that I want to explore more of France, so we are now making plans for a trip to Nice next summer. And here you are! Now I am convinced this is the place I must visit! Thank you!
The Stoney beach may not be the most comfortable, but you have to sit on it and listen when the waves come in and stir those pebbles! It is the most unique and soothing sound I have ever heard!
Crazy how this popped up today for me....on YT. I spent a summer in Nice as a teen. In 1987, it was wonderful. And, BTW I am one who loved the rock covered beaches... Lol. No mess, like with the sand. The ice cream, and fresh fruit...I can recall as fantastic. That was a summer I'll never forget....first time abroad without my parents. Good times.
can you plz tell us how no one steals your camera or picks it up when you put it down to film yourself running? do you ask someone to watch it for you please tell me I'm dying to know!? really been loving your vids by the way
I sacrifice one goat and three chickens to the god of small cameras every full moon - so far so good ;D Haha - it's funny because if you look there's a comment in French on this video asking exactly the same thing. Perhaps I'll share the secrets someday ;D I need to make a video on vlogging at some point I suppose. And thank you so much! I hope you keep enjoying them.
Jay Swanson lool your so funny that's why I love your content keep up the great work! And yes please we would love to see a behind the scenes of you vlogging! Thanks for the reply love
Congrats on 5k subscribers! That McDonald's is the first McDonald's I ever ate at outside of the US. I was very tired and did not feel like sitting and having a long meal. I went in and the first thing I saw was the coffee and Pastry counter. I was shocked at how nice it was. Then I noticed they sold beer and wine. I still wonder why our McDonald's does not have that stuff in them. Not that I eat at McDonald's that much. I think the last time I had it was in September 2016 in Paris. I was shocked that I didn't hate the rocky beach. I was over on the public beach by Castle Hill and getting out of the water there was super steep. Most people were crawling out basically, including me. Lol Anyway, it was great seeing Nice through your eyes. It holds a place in my heart because it was the first city in Europe I ever went too. I remember flying in and seeing the French coast and my heart fluttered. ❤️❤️❤️
It did!! It makes the food taste better too. Lol I might need to get the info on that apartment you stayed at. It’s fabulous! The ship I was on in September parked where the ferry was parked. I stayed at a hotel next to the elevator that takes you to the top of Castle Hill. It was convenient but if the Apartment is less expensive I’d go that route next time.
New subscriber here...loving your videos and many of them are helping me prepare for my first trip to France (2019 🤗). I'm a 48 y.o. American high school teacher and I often tell people that the only place I'll be pissed off about not getting to in my life is France and I have felt that way for at least three decades. Finally coming to fruition next year, fingers crossed! Btw, you passed a Spar while you were walking but before you actually mentioned looking for the old Spar location. Haha
I was pretty disoriented with the destruction of the street, haha. I'll get you next time, Spar, if it's the last thing I doooooooo Have fun on your trip! I hope it's everything and more than you ever hoped =D
Love getting the history. Tracing the arc from there to here. How fun to visit a beautiful city with so many memories! ...and so fun to see so many followers/comments! Yay.
I remember Nice fondly. I used to go there all the time when I lived in Torino. Seems like ages ago. I loved the little sandwich shops and those giant seafood platters I’d see people eat, which I couldn’t afford.
I am almost a year late watching this video (it's 1/25/19). This place is AMAZING, yet another place I MUST visit when I come back to Europe (Nice!)!!! I still don't understand how long you were there and what you and Noah (sp?) were doing, but I will probably pick that up as I catch up more in the vlog. I simply LOVE the room you are in, did the bed go up like a Murphy bed? I used to have one, in a San Francisco apt., in 1976! The good old days :) Love your videos!
We have many Spar shops in Cape Town, South Africa. I have a 'Super Spar' near me with a coffee bar, bakery etc in it, it is fantastic. Enjoyed your Nice vlog!
This makes so much sense now that the Dutch connection has been made as well (I remember seeing Spar in Cape Town and wondering what the connection was)
The stoney beaches in Nice and surrounding areas is to absorb much of the energy from the waves and prevent flooding as the promenade is pretty low. Little geography lesson for you!
I'm learning french right now and plan to come over in September on a visa and was wondering if Nice is better for working on my french vs Paris . Like where would you recommend my best shot be?
Anywhere you can make French friends - but Nice is a little harder for that than Paris. I'd try to find a smaller town or village with fewer English speakers/tourism
There's almost always a video 😄 th-cam.com/video/3I1w2n1SGSE/w-d-xo.html And I'm glad you're enjoying the videos! I hope you have a great trip when the time comes 😁👍
Its amazing to see an American move to Europe, embrace a foreign language and a new culture. Americans (to me) always seemed to have this superiority complex but I guess not everyone... ; )
We went to the Beer District when we were there in December. They have some great beers! We also ate at the same restaurant and I had the same dish that you had. It's been fun watching!
omg you topped yesterday's vlog! Nice looks so much nicer than Paris IMHO. I've never seen such breathtaking blue colors in my life! I hope to be there some day.
Thanks for this lovely video mate , I’m from England and also have a franch nationality and I’m thinking to move to nice , is it good place to live and invest there !any suggestions please
Cool clip. I'd like to move there someday. What part of Nice has waves you can surf. I heard the surf was good but when Jay was at the neach it was flat.
Ahh...Nice is really cool. I know a lot of the places that you filmed in this vblog. I arrived in Nice some time back. The day I arrived in Nice, I was due to be on the Promenade for the fireworks, but I had jetlag so went to bed. It was the night to the Terrorist Attack. Nice shut down for 3 days. We walked the streets of Nice, all empty, everything was shut, and this was my first visit to Nice. Thankfully after three days and a special memorial service the Promenade three days later, the city came back to life. Nice is really the best city in France!
I have been back to Nice a number of times, and I really feel "at home" in this city. I have ceased to think of myself as a tourist and more as a local. (As much as one can be when you speak with an Australian accent.)
I thought this too, but then I looked it up on Wikipedia and it turns out it is originally from the Netherlands! Also "Den Spar" means "Die Tanne" in German. Idk how to say that in English, might be spruce or fir tree, the definitions I found confuse me, my botanical knowledge in English (and German) needs work ;) EDIT: That explains their logo as well :)
Y a un carnaval très populaire à Dunkerque, tout au nord de la France:-) A Paris la tradition avait disparu mais ça revient ces dernières années apparemment.
Bonjour! Thank you for an excellent video! Nice (and the area around Montpellier) looks perfect. We are looking for a moderate summer climate area, with a plaza lifestyle, and near good healthcare (my wife has MS and is a cancer survivor). We walk, and ride, so public transportation is required. I am a retired American educator. We helped a new school open in Lviv, then spent 6 weeks in Krakow; we're in Tallinn for a month before heading back to Oregon. My wife and I hope to visit France after the Olympics. We plan to rent out our Portland condo and then travel throughout Europe, and perhaps help Ukraine rebuild after the war ends. There are several significant advantages to living in France: climate, healthcare, culture, and infrastructure. Merci!! Dean and Cindy
Nice SPAR shoutout! They’re actually from Austria and are on every street corner there 😊 the German pronunciation is maybe like “SHPAWR” but your way of saying it is also cool 😉
I live here...Well watching your video seems like the place i would love to stay all my life xD But its actually a place for old ppl :) No partying...lots of dirt...and if you dont speak French you have issues! Good for some days of vac though ;)
My french internet boyfriend literally lives here, he's scared I'm gonna find out where he lives lol, I cannot even afford a local plane ticket HAHAHAHAHHA now we're entirely just nothing and completely strangers damn!
I want to respond to you so snarkily sometimes but I'm worried newer viewers won't know who you are and might take offense to my curt "WHAT WORKED JEFF?!" responses

Hello, were there things for everyday life that you didn't like ? Like for example too much crowd etc.?
The French Riviera like Nice, Cannes, Saint-Tropez, etc... is more suitable for wealthy foreigners who don't have to work there but have steady stream of high income coming from overseas. The area, in general, is so much cleaner, nicer, more extravagant, less crowded, and less stressful than Paris. Still live there, love it.
@@birdmoder lucky you.
I loved Nice, I didn’t stay long enough, the promenade is beautiful, old Nice too, again thank you Jay for a great vlog.
+Margot Love I wish I could stay longer! I'll have to get back soon.
I discovered your Chanel in 2018 when I was planning my spring 2019 Paris trip. I enjoyed Paris so much, that I want to explore more of France, so we are now making plans for a trip to Nice next summer. And here you are! Now I am convinced this is the place I must visit! Thank you!

It makes for a great sound for sure
Pizza in Nice is insane

+annainaspen it's a great city. I totally know the "just give me food now" woes too haha. But it spoiled you for its view I'm sure 🌴☀️🌴
It did!! It makes the food taste better too. Lol

City sport is now a bike place btw and the construction stuff is the new trolley that goes all the way to the airport and I love it
Thank you for the walk (and run) through Nice. We are coming this November '19 and your video helped much!
Love getting the history. Tracing the arc from there to here. How fun to visit a beautiful city with so many memories! ...and so fun to see so many followers/comments! Yay.
KELEREN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hee! 💌
I was in Nice in November and really loved it. Thanks for les souvenirs.
Happy to share!
I am visiting Paris and Nice in April and I'm using your Vlogs to prep for my trip. I feel like I've learned so much in the past two days!
I'm so glad to hear that! I hope they make the trip better =D
Ocean colour is beyond stunning.
It's pretty amazing. Gets lost as you get close to Italy =/
I remember Nice fondly. I used to go there all the time when I lived in Torino. Seems like ages ago. I loved the little sandwich shops and those giant seafood platters I’d see people eat, which I couldn’t afford.
I need to make it to Torino - so much of Italy to see
Love it. I used to live on the corner of Rue de France and Rue St Philippe.Happy times.
It's a fun town - I'd like to go back for a bit when it's warmer haha
Wow it's so beautiful 😍 your video style does it justice! The wanderlust is real!
Thanks! =D
Watching you with only a shirt in February makes me so much freezing lmao
+Alex Chad haha. I don't really need much more down here 😄🌴☀️🌴
You will hit 5k tomorrow! Positive thinking at its finest! Great video as always!
Glad you liked it!
You have such a great personality! And so entertaining to watch too! Thanks for another fab video!
Thank you!

Nice is lovely =) I forget what the bed was like exactly but 95% sure it was a hide-a-bed (aka pull-out)
Looks peaceful.
Ty!
Np!
We have many Spar shops in Cape Town, South Africa. I have a 'Super Spar' near me with a coffee bar, bakery etc in it, it is fantastic. Enjoyed your Nice vlog!
This makes so much sense now that the Dutch connection has been made as well (I remember seeing Spar in Cape Town and wondering what the connection was)
Spar is a very popular chain in Ireland and the UK. "Under the tree, at Spar" was their little jingle.
Sparrrrrr. I imagine it sounds even better with an Irish accent (as everything does)
The stoney beaches in Nice and surrounding areas is to absorb much of the energy from the waves and prevent flooding as the promenade is pretty low.
Little geography lesson for you!
They make for nice sounds too =D
Matt ...Are you implying the pebbles are imported? Because they are not!
How did you learn French? Also, I absolutely love your videos!! They make me look forward to traveling to France someday.

And I'm glad you're enjoying the videos! I hope you have a great trip when the time comes 😁👍
Its amazing to see an American move to Europe, embrace a foreign language and a new culture. Americans (to me) always seemed to have this superiority complex but I guess not everyone... ; )
Your average American is actually pretty dumb and live in a bubble. Most Americans don't even have passports and feel no need to have them.
That was a great video. Felt Iike I was there with you, sightseeing and eating what looked like very nice food. WOW!! 5000 subbies. Halfway there!!
+Jacqui Heywood on our way ! 😃 😄
I like the stony beach. I hate sand. :) Loved Nice though
Spars are all over the UK, I thought they were the uk version of 7-11 but it turns out they are a dutch company.
We went to the Beer District when we were there in December. They have some great beers! We also ate at the same restaurant and I had the same dish that you had. It's been fun watching!
I want a return trip to Beer District, ha
omg you topped yesterday's vlog! Nice looks so much nicer than Paris IMHO. I've never seen such breathtaking blue colors in my life! I hope to be there some day.
+Kyle N the colors do make a huge difference. It's all about what you want from your city in the end
Interesting, tell us more....What does Nice have to offer? What type of person would find Nice a good fit?
I'll have to get back there to give that a go next time ;D
Thanks for this lovely video mate , I’m from England and also have a franch nationality and I’m thinking to move to nice , is it good place to live and invest there !any suggestions please
I desperately want to move there - though now times are so uncertain I am unsure how to go about this.
I hope you find a way that works well for you!
Lovely vlog. My parents are in Nice for the week, so it's nice to see what they are seeing through your eyes if that makes sense
They're gonna have a blast =D
Thanks for showing us around Nice Jay, loved your choice of music. The dancing looked fun.
Glad to serve up some Nicois moments!
Cool clip. I'd like to move there someday. What part of Nice has waves you can surf. I heard the surf was good but when Jay was at the neach it was flat.
We were in Nice 6 years ago for a few days,we took a bus to Monaco for 1 Euro each, cheapest thing in Europe ☺️
Great music today! It was the perfect vibe.
Glad it hit the spot =D
I'm from Iowa! Yay!!
🍻🍻
Nice? Nizza!
😊😊
Ahh...Nice is really cool. I know a lot of the places that you filmed in this vblog. I arrived in Nice some time back. I have been back to Nice a number of times, and I really feel "at home" in this city. I have ceased to think of myself as a tourist and more as a local. (As much as one can be when you speak with an Australian accent.)
What were you looking to eat at 16:50? It sounded like you said you were looking for a good spot for dobe. Maybe it was dub or dove. What is dobe?
Daube - it's tasty en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daube
Looks good. I wish I knew more about Provençal cuisine.
Fun vlog! I enjoyed seeing everything and listening to your stories! I feel like Nice is so underrated, it's so beautiful 💙
It's got its great parts - it also has some rough parts (thus the stories about cars and restaurants getting burned out by the mafia ha)
Ahhh.....so enjoyed this! SPAR is originally a german store, it means SAVE ! I’ve seen them in England too.
I thought this too, but then I looked it up on Wikipedia and it turns out it is originally from the Netherlands! Also "Den Spar" means "Die Tanne" in German. Idk how to say that in English, might be spruce or fir tree, the definitions I found confuse me, my botanical knowledge in English (and German) needs work ;)
EDIT: That explains their logo as well :)
Zitroan That’s Interesting - good research! I was just reporting from my experience and with the German name making sense it just seemed logical.
Yes I get that, I thought the same at first :D
The Dutch connection makes a lot of sense for their presence in South Africa too =D
so beautiful
Lovely town :)
i lived in nice for 6 months. worked at place garabaldi. :) keep it up
Ah cool - I hardly spent any time on that side of town outside of weekends out. I wish I'd explored it better.
Y a un carnaval très populaire à Dunkerque, tout au nord de la France:-) A Paris la tradition avait disparu mais ça revient ces dernières années apparemment.
C'est bien a voir! J'avais aucun idee s'il etait qqch francais ou qqch sudois.
Oh my god! That McDonalds was not there when I went. I think that corner was the sandwich shop! I was there in 2000-2001.
Really? I was gonna say, it has to have been a while back then

Aaah the good life! What a place for a 10k... I hope to do that again too, one of these days (last time was on rollerblades)!
It was a great spot to run for sure!
Hi Jay! Where do you like to live Paris or Nice?
I prefer Paris for now =)
What is the name of the restaurant you ate at? We are going to Nice in September and would love to check it out.
Nice looks so beautiful! You make me wanna jump on a flight ASAP. I'm in need of a coastal getaway. Miss the water and ocean air. ☺️
You should go visit for sure! Just wait until spring for some sunnier skies ;D
Nice video, how's the rent over there is it expensive or sheap I would like to move to nice
It's the least expensive rent on the French Rivera, but still high
@@Onnya-Lemox No, not really. It's a bit pricer than Nice, and isn't as big
Scintillating Nice......which place is more beautiful Paris or nice, according to you who has lived in both these places for a while?
That's a very apples and oranges kind of question =)
Awesome day!
The ocean is beautiful!
What a great trip 👌🏻
Thanks for sharing 😁
Of course! My pleasure =)
Yaaay! Regional travel vlogs❤
Huzzaaaahhhhhh
which is better for living french Riveria or miami?
I've never lived in Miami, sorry
Nice SPAR shoutout! They’re actually from Austria and are on every street corner there 😊 the German pronunciation is maybe like “SHPAWR” but your way of saying it is also cool 😉
Very interesting!! Cheers for sharing
My pleasure!
Nice looks like the perfect getaway, but I see why you moved to Paris. Passe une bonne journée!
Can't have it all, sadly =/
Spar is a South African brand. Also in Germany
You should browse the comments for the research done below (or above, i'm not sure where they'll be located in relation to this one ha)
The water looks soooo nice. Rocky beach, not so much haha. BTW, as I type this, 22 to go til 5K subscribers!
+Saturnea Sooooooo close!! 🌴☀️🌴
Nice is so beautiful but it isn't Paris for sure. Love the video. Ditto on Cheryl's comment. You are an amazing storyteller.
Thank you! And yeah, I prefer Parisian living personally but Nice is definitely nice (pun thoroughly intended this time 😂)
Nizza è Nizzarda , Nizza è Piemonteis è sardi .
Paris is french 😉
I've been to Nice and it's OK but it's not the sumptuous and exclusive James Bond hideaway that they make it out to be.
Yeah, I wouldn't trust any Bond flick to represent any location accurately haha.
It was way back when.....It has changed so much since 40 years ago. Then, it was paradise.
So Noah went bankrupt after Red Bull's legalization?
+cmolodiets it was the end for him
you have one spar in Paris. in the 19th arrondissement ! ;-)
+bleumarin1968 hahaha, I'll have to go visit it.
Dang, your Iowa shirt game is on point. You get those from Raygun?
I got it from the Marriott in Des Moines but yeah, pretty sure Raygun was the designer. Great postcards too =D
Omg! You just reached 5k subscribers!
+Giselle Ramos while I was sleeping! Great way to wake up 😃
I live here...Well watching your video seems like the place i would love to stay all my life xD But its actually a place for old ppl :) No partying...lots of dirt...and if you dont speak French you have issues! Good for some days of vac though ;)
Haha - I think that's a great assessment
Thanks for stirring up memories of Nice. I belong on the Mediterranean!
Always worth a good stirring =)
Can you please link the Airbnb you staying on???
I will on tomorrow's!
Jay Swanson thank you! ❤️
You can manage only with english language ???
I speak French, so that helps =)
Ha I go to the Spar daily!
Always worth a trip =D
Are u still in Nice?
Nope! But it was a great trip 😎
what time of year was this?
There's a handy date stamp right under the video 😀👍 Feb 12 by the looks of things
0:34 Lol i stayed at the same airbnb apartment
Not a bad one to land in =)
Spar is really common in UK,we have loads lol
Really? Man, I feel like I'm missing out here in Paris now
Still weird to see you vloging in my city !
Happy to be weird ;D
Is the mafia very prolific in France? I don't generally think of the mafia when I think of France...
Nice is nice isn't it? ;) want to live in Nice now? You can, you should !
I don't want to live there, no, but I'd love to spend more time on the coast when it's warmer =D
Nice looks a lot like Geneva
Lots of cross-influences in the region I think
My french internet boyfriend literally lives here, he's scared I'm gonna find out where he lives lol, I cannot even afford a local plane ticket HAHAHAHAHHA now we're entirely just nothing and completely strangers damn!
I WANNA BE YOUR TRAVEL BUDDY!!!
THEN GET HERE JENNICA
well it worked
I want to respond to you so snarkily sometimes but I'm worried newer viewers won't know who you are and might take offense to my curt "WHAT WORKED JEFF?!" responses

It's so gorgeous there. I think this Alabama girl could get used to that place. ; )
It's not a bad spot to get used to =)
Sparrrr Means save in Dutch
I see you've come full circle right back to the Bay at Nice. #JokesOnlyEWUKidsGet
Unfortunately this time the baldness was not preceded by a mohawk
you are a cultured viking. explore more food places...good coffee is number one...oxoxo
I was in nice it was a dreem
Sounds like a good dreem
NIC IS NICE
Nice is so beautiful. Thank you for showing us around 😍
My absolute pleasure!
you never live there you probably stay there for like 2 weeks stop liying dude
Would have rather seen more of Nice instead of you. Please turn camera away when walking, to show more of what you're seeing.
Lot of his face, its boring
