    They really glossed over her relationship with Tony Stark in these movies and that always frustrated me. She forgave him really fast for the role he played in her parents’ death, and we never got to see her call him out on it to his face. We never see his reaction to that news. We never see him apologize. She just kinda does a face turn abruptly and it doesn’t really work.

    • @themadtitan7603
      @themadtitan7603 4 ปีที่แล้ว +84

      The problem is most of her appearances so far have been in Avengers movies (besides Civil War that still had a huge roaster) which can't always include all these fulfilling interactions people are hoping for due to the scope and/or circumstances. Look at Bucky/Tony, I was hoping for them to have a moment in Infinity War or Endgame after Civil War but that didn't happen despite them fighting on the same battlefield and him being present in Tony's funeral.

    • @jamie8481

    • @hothotheat3000
      @hothotheat3000 4 ปีที่แล้ว +53

      There’s no way she just doesn’t bring it up. The whole reason that she has powers to begin with is her quest for revenge against Tony. She volunteered to be experimented on because she wanted to take him down. She isn’t an Avenger if not for her hatred of him. She starts down the path that leads to her brother’s death because of Tony. That doesn’t just magically go away.
      If anything, it should have been her calling him out that would freak him out enough to want to be put in check, not the deaths of randos that he has no connection with. She’s a living, breathing consequence of who Tony used to be, and the films don’t do nearly enough with that.

    • @rhetiq9989
      @rhetiq9989 4 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      Fun fact, her last interaction with Stark was literally her calling him out for grounding her in her room which was then followed by her raining dozens of car on his head. Not the best closure to their relationship I’d say

      @thescarletswitch 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@itsmytoast666 I'm sorry, just saw this! I'm geeking out over this though because I'm a HUGE Wanda fan.
      Other than House of M, some great events she's part of are the Young Avengers' Children's Crusade and the Avengers vs. X-Men. These aren't as focused on her awesome power (or poor mental health) but more so the effects of House of M on her personally, including her relationships with Vision, her kids and her friends/teammates. Her teaming up with Hope Summers and them using their powers together is pretty cool, though!
      All that to say, I can't recommend her All-New, All Different solo series enough! I think it does an amazing job of humanizing her and really defining her powers in the modern setting of the Marvel universe (they're much more linked to witchcraft now since they retconned her and Pietro being mutants.)
      Marvel also did a trade of some of her older stuff called Avengers: Scarlet Witch that has some of her most memorable moments/origin building from earlier comics.
      Hope that helps!

    Slight correction: Wanda's actually had powers longer than Dr. Strange. Strange gained his powers in 2016/2017, & Wanda gained hers in . . . 2014/2015? The thing that sets them apart it that Dr. Strange is an actual doctor in probably his mid 40s who attended med school for like 12 years, which assisted in his extensive study & mastery of the mystic arts, which has a centuries old rigid system in place for guided teaching. Wanda was about 16 in Age of Ultron, which would make her 19 in Infinity War & Endgame; she was a child when she 1st gained her powers. Not only that, but her powers were a man-made experiment; she had to teach herself all those abilities she showed in Age of Ultron, since no one really understood her powers. & even though she underwent training from the Avengers, they could really only teach her what THEY knew: strategy, covert operations techniques, & they probably taught her some basic offense & defense. But even still, she had to apply that to her abilities herself, & basically figure it out on her own.This is all when she was about 17. It's like Steve said in Civil War: "She's a kid." That would be what sets her apart from Strange.

    • @DrTimes99
      @DrTimes99 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Idk Thor will always have the support of the remaining Asgardians, he got some pretty good closure for the deaths of both his parents, and will always have the purpose of having been a godlike warrior and protector which he seems to be returning to with his new buds. Wanda doesn’t have any of that support and the hands of fate for her have been violent and cruel, and those tragedies have been shaping her life since she was at least a teen growing up in a war, so a huge portion of her development. Thor was already a grownass god before it seems like he had to deal with any real hardship. Anyways that’s just my opinion on it, I totally see how Thor’s recent years has struck a cord in the hearts of us all.
      I feel like if Marvel went into a lot of characters more tragic backstories this would be a much hard choice too! Throw in baby Bruce Banner, raised by an abusive father who eventually killed his momma in front of him and manipulated baby Bruce to keep it a secret.
      Hm. Well. I’m sad now.

  • @MrBazBake
    @MrBazBake 4 ปีที่แล้ว +56

    Sokovia would be a neat set up for this.
    Underneath the mythology of the Marvel Comics there is a lot of political nuance. Magneto is a holocaust survivor who (for a time and maybe once again when Axis is forgotten/re-re-retconned) had Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch with a Romani woman, a group that was also ethnically cleansed in the holocaust and has suffered the same fate for centuries. But what people don't remember is that Doom's affinity with Wanda is because he's ALSO Romani, and Latveria is the Genosha for his people, a place where he overthrew the previously oppressive nobility and ruled benevolently while threatening the rest of the world with destruction if they cross him.
    The Sokovians might need a homeland. If Latveria takes in the Sokovian refugees, you could see a crossover between Magneto, Scarlet Witch, Zemo, and Doom around their fate and their future.

    Great video, Nandalorian.
    Wanda is a great character, and has experienced so much hardship which makes her very interesting to watch in every movie, and the fact that she is arguably one of the most powerful superhero’s we have seen in the MCU, along with others like Captain Marvel, Vision (except in Infinity War, when he was mega nerfed by the glaive), Thor, and (hear me out) Star Lord before Ego died, and a few others.
    Speaking of Thor, I think he has also gone through a lot of hardships, different from Wanda’s but still very damaging. Thor himself kind of sums it up in Infinity War when he’s talking to Rocket about his dad dying, mom dying, brother dying for the 3rd+ time (but this time for real), Heindal dying, Asgard obliterated by Surtur, most asgardians killed by thanos, etc etc. These hardships are different from Wanda’s, like Wanda had to sacrifice her robot boyfriend in an effort to save half of all life, and he explodes in front of her, then he is ressurected, only for Thanos to rip the Mind stone from his head like a sticker from an apple. But you have to admit,Thor has gone through a lot.
    That being said, we have known Thor longer, and I am super excited to see what happens to Scarlet Witch in future movies, she really is one of my favorite characters to watch in every movie she’s been in.

    I would say Rocket has been through the most because he was tested on his whole life escapes. Finds a friend and watches him sacrifice himself, raises him like a son then watches his "son" die and an even bigger stomp in the face hears that his family dies, this is what I think makes rocket's story more tragic than Wanda's. Rocket then saw his only way to get his family back destroyed ands to deal with it for 5 years and has survivors guilt. So this is the reason why I think Rocket has been through the most in the MCU.

    • @dan3pro273

      Yeah i know but r now, rocket is not in pain, because the guardians are back, he is in terms with quill, groot is back, and he has a family that truly loves him....so I think nando picked wanda because she is the only one who hasn't got any closure on her brother, lover, and life in general

    • @daniellanctot6548
      @daniellanctot6548 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd agree that Rocket would be in the top 5 for sure, but I am not sure he get the top spot if only because, yes, he has indeed gone through a traumatic creation period but it seems to me that after that he pretty much went about doing whatever he wanted, which included being a prick to everyone around him; which include being a prick to his longeest standing friend, namely Groot. After that, it's only the lost of Groot once to a sacrifice play (Which was that much of a sacrifice as he "resprouted" almost immediately after) and a second time to the snap (But then again: ALL of the survivors went through the same pain of that, so it does not put him higher up on the scale than any of those others).
      So while taking nothing away from Rocket, I'd still would put Steve Rogers as #1 contender with Wanda for the top spot (For the reasons I listed in another post) before looking at Rocket.

    Something I really wish we could've seen was a budding friendship between Bucky & Wanda.
    Think about it: they both have been misplaced (Bucky from his time & Wanda from her country), they both likely suffer from mental health problems (who am I kidding THEY TOTALLY DO), they both operated under Hydra, they were manipulated & used for great evil against the world, they both did some pretty terrible things involving the deaths of dozens, they were both hunted & shunned because of these deaths - which they had no intention of causing, they both speak Russian (based on the writing in Sokovia, it's safe to say that Wanda grew up speaking a certain Russian dialect) they're both most definitely bisexual (don't try to argue w/ me: it was confirmed in comics that Bucky had a crush on Steve; plus the fact that of every Avenger she could've fallen for, Wanda fell for Vision BEFORE he took on a human appearance in Infinity War & is also technically genderless, also her jeans we cuffed in IW), they both lost the people closest to them (either because of death, time, or time travel), they both have abilities that allow them to overpower combatants that they haven't used since they debuted as enhanced because of guilt, they both have strong ties to Eastern Europe, they were both considered as "weapons" rather than people at some point, & they're both extremely haunted by the things they've done & most likely afraid of their own minds.
    I'd have loved to've seen more than Wanda preventing Black Panther's claws from ripping out Bucky's throat that 1 time.
    Tell me this wouldn't be an intriguing friendship. Tell me you wouldn't throw even more money at Disney+ for this.
    Oh well. Maybe there'll be a Falcon & Winter Soldier/WandaVision crossover episode that they'll use for more profit.

      I'd say Thor has lost more people, but more of Wanda's experiences have been very bitter and unfair. That's not to say none of Thor's have, of course. But more for Wanda.

      I mean Thor’s had like a solid 500 years that we’re pretty decent. Kind of a privileged god/king who wins every fight and is just really cool. In terms of his lifetime only like, a decade or so has been pretty bad? And like they’ve been BAD but his ratio is still solid

    Yep, I remember having a moment after Endgame where I stopped to think about where Wanda specifically would go next, feeling like her closest remaining acquaintance after that was Clint, who would be going back to retirement. Eventually I came to the correct deduction that the best place for her to go would be with Dr. Strange and the Sorcerers to figure more out about her powers, and I am very excited to see what the dynamic between those two will be like.

      Still I hope Agatha Harkness will play a major role. She was Wanda's personal magic tutor for years. Agatha is centuries old, knew the twins' birth mother, was a premiere witch in old Salem and worked on a secret ops team during WW2 created to investigate supernatural threats from HYDRA. She is also Mr. Fantastic's governess/babysitter.

    I could never agree more. I've always been supporting MCU Wanda before Infinity War because of how interesting and complex her character arcs are in the first two or three movies she's been in even though she's still underrated at the time and it's definitely undeniable that there are still flaws in writing her character and her character development. The point is I'm just glad that people are paying more attention to her now and she's definitely going to be one of the most defining characters for the Phase 4 MCU and onward.

    Wanda or the Scarlet Witch leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I feel like her “no more mutants” feat was a terrible move that boosted her character’s status without consideration for where she might go. I would’ve had her ability be defined as immense raw mystical energy, allowing Doctor Strange or some other magic user to come in and be a mentor of sorts. I HATE ambiguity in superpower when it’s obvious that there’s no road map to where these abilities can go. Also hated the Hulk in the last two movies. I thought his lack of green was going to go somewhere great but then they popped out with pencil keyboard hulk.

      There's a young avengers series called The Children's Crusade, and basically Dr. Doom kidnapped and brainwashed Wanda and her abilities have scaled because he trained her to use magic. You should read it, it's very entertaining!
