I'm dying to see JJ roasting me for being a full-time student and my financial aid covering my living and educational expenses. I also have his same age, and don't work at the moment. The only difference is that I don't owe anything to anybody... I actually help my relatives each month. They do have something of a system there, but it's very sparse. My line of thinking is that if he was getting aide, he was able to live on the campus, or at least close by. That being said, the weather is dang nice there. If he really was hard up and wanted to go to school, he could've walked. There is no excuse for this guy.
When I was 16, my parents bought me a cheap little car to share with my brother. I was thrilled. The first thing I did was go and apply for jobs because I knew if I even wanted to so much as put gas in the car I would have to work. Worked all the way through High School, then college. At 33, still working lol. That's how it works.... literally.
That’s honestly kind of disheartening. Education is one of the biggest “gaps” between the wealthy and the poor. Ideally nobody should have to work AND do school at the same time. If everyone was able to focus on their studies knowing their needs would be met, they’d do a lot better, both on their studies and in terms of their mental health and energy levels, etc. That would also mean that they could potentially get a better job down the road to earn more, and subsequently contribute more back… it just makes a lot of sense to me!

My parents instilled in myself and my siblings the importance of higher education and they helped put us through as much as they could. However financially, they did not have the means to just pay for every dime of our college education. I consider myself pretty successful and I worked at my college while taking classes. All of my peers had jobs during school. It's normal. I make 6 figures, having a job during HS and college did not have any bearing on how much myself and my peers earned after our education. If anything, we're doing better because of it.

Judy is right here! I'm 31 and a Full-time student and I work 40hrs a week. I have to pay my bills. A man just has to have a sense of duty and take care of himself and his household (which comes first) and then seek dreams and aspirations (i.e. education, music, etc.) This doesn't apply if you just graduated highschool and have many opportunities to get school knocked out when you're young enough. Even then, though (which I see a lot of young men in my area doing), you should at least work part-time.

I worked when I was 28 (started my first job when I was a teenager); still employed now, full time, and I wouldn't change it for the world. I'd rather earn a living by working hard and paying my own way in life, instead of lazing around at home, being unproductive and taking handouts (for the wrong reasons) - either from friends, relatives or the government.
So "if you are not disabled and old enough to work, you should make every effort to do so" is the motto.
