Most of my friends have never heard of it before, let alone played. Also, the milsim community is...interesting and not always very welcoming to people in different walks of life. My advice would be this: install the zues enhancement suite and go play some custome games, leaf how to use zues and once you do start setting up scenarios for yourself, slowly ramp up AI difficulty and give yourself less and less breathing room. I spent about 100 hours just making boxed off locations where I would fight waves of AI, it really helped me learn the mechanics and quirks of the game engine. Sort of a trial by fire but its effective. Try building a combat arena, have two opposing trench lines around 100 meters apart, then on one side put in a forrest with more and more cover towards the center of the map, in the main arena ad several buildings, have a few destroyed ones and at least 2 intact ones, on the opposite side of the forrest have a field with little to no cover, have a heavily destroyed multi level building on each side of this field, practice sniping from that area. Add bunkers for each side and sniper towers, have AI on both sides and use their way points to have them meet in the middle of the map, have some AI be more aggressive than others. Fight in this arena till you have a fairly decent grasp on weapon handling, grenade mechanics and the medical system. You can reuse this arena for everything in game minus air/long distance vehicle combat.
There's plenty of places that are a lot more casual than Milsim communities but do a wide variety of modded operations, there's TSB (where i play) which is a welcoming and a quite active community that play's ARMA 3 and other games, there's TMTM which is more on the casual side of things, there's plenty out there with youtubers like Liru the Lance Corporal, Rimmy down under, Rubix raptor, Max0r, SovietWomble and many more making great content like this on Arma 3 and other things. There are a ton of different types of Arma 3 communities so don't be afraid to join a community as the worst thing they can say is no.
I’ve put about 20 hours into it so far, only playing the single player missions like you, and I’ve learned that you need to just constantly look through the controls and read every tutorial that pops up. Also, there is a menu that has tutorials for every mechanic in the game, so make sure to frequently consult that. Due to Arma being a milsim, if there’s something you want to do, there is almost always a way to do it, so don’t be afraid to look through the tutorials for a couple minutes to see if you can find a mechanic you’re looking for. Despite having so many controls, it’s a very intuitive game once you get the hang of it, so just be persistent and don’t give up.

I've been playing Arma 2/3 for a few years now and I love it, but the community can be kinda rough around the edges so it can be hard to get into when trying to join communities for milsim. I would love to play with you guys, especially in a Halo setting, especially in one that isn't super serious like most units are. Just a word of warning though, more mods does mean more fun/immersion, but of course with the downside of it being more difficult to set up a server and having compatibility issues, fps etc. My best recommendation would be on top of the Halo stuff, TFAR (Better radio/coms mod for immersion), Ace Medical (plus the splints/defib) and the Ace compatibility for Trebuchet (for more realistic trauma), JRS Soundmod (which you may have already had on), and Enhanced Movement (assuming you didn't have this on already) You can add me on discord if you want: Vincent#5298

I think ARMA really shines in not only what was shown in this video, but also the Combined Arms factor. When, in OPTRE you have a Pelican or Falcon pilot who flies you in, does a bit of Recon, and when you call him on Radio is able to help you with CAS. And when he gets shot down, you can easily end up getting a secondary objective: Save the Pilot This is of course also true for the Vanilla game, and other big mods, like Star Wars.
This is was a really entertaining video. Most operation trebuchet videos I kinda get bored and click off because it's just Arma with halo weapons but I liked this one. It actually showed a fight with the Covenant.
Hey. This is a really good video. If you would like to discuss the mod, or play it, with the development team, just let me know. Glad you are enjoying it.
ARMA's version is something I'd love to see in a Halo game someday. The best parts of forge and firefight combined together with just the sheer amount of assets and customization.
Trust me, that's our most requested asset. Sadly, there's no guarantee that that'll be really feasible for the group given 1: the amount of work is actually needed for that, and 2: the very limited staff on the First Contact Team...

I find it funny how quickly your 'eye roll' backfired on you. Been in that situation before, and it's worth an "Oh, shit..." moment once the reality hits.
Do a combined arms operation. Having the pelicans, falcons, warthogs, scorpions, etc, all moving together toward the enemy is an awesome sight. Liru is another content creator who hosts optre operations, could see about joining one of their ops, that'd be pretty sick.
Hi there, im relatively new to arma 3 and have downloaded Operation trebuchet cause i love halo, but idk how or who to join. Do you know any servers or communities I could possibly join to play it? Because I have no idea how to set up stuff on my own
r/findaunit on reddit is usually for more 'realistic' military units. But facebook also has a pretty active arma 3 unit scene where you can find units who do specific things. Be it a normal military unit or playing as clone troopers from star wars.
You should go look for Units that use Operation Trebuchet , beware though. They usually use stuff that modifies Arma even more though. And forgot to add , most units do help beginners though , so don't be afraid to ask them :)!
I know this video was released some 8 months ago... but 8 months ago, I didn't even have Arma 3 installed. And now I have just under 200 hours in this amazing game. This video and the two that followed it led to the creation of the Arma 3 unit I'm currently the XO of, and subsequently the biggest change in my life since I got a PC. I fucking love this game. The last time I enjoyed a game this much that I kept coming back to it was probably Halo Reach, Halo 3, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition, or Terraria for the PC... and unlike any of those games, I think I'm going to keep coming back to it for years to come. I guess I'm saying thank you. Thank you for making this video and the two following ones, because while the videos themselves didn't change my life, the inspiration it gave to someone did.
This channel is one of my favorite things on the world. I just need to say that when I see a notification from this channel I click faster than the flash. When I watch you talk about any game, I love listening to you knit pick every detail, every mechanic, I love it.
I loved this. I love seeing people show so much passion in their presentation! I am the same way when seeing MCC mods get released, I just love me some Halo
I’m glad you liked it, spent months making those forerunner bunkers, ramps, walls etc. Also glad the Ai pathing worked well on all the structures that too was annoying to get working haha
I played this myself too, its AMAZING! Its my way of the Halo Infinite open world rumor. Thats what I loved about Halo ODST, the open world play, another great video Taras!
Just had this pop into my recommended videos, cool to see you've discovered Arma 3. The great thing about the sandbox nature of the game is you can tailor the experience to what you want, and the realism aspects certainly make it more tense than the average shooter. The OT mod really gives you the opportunity to see how those cinematics like Landfall would play out.
pretty cool, my first arma experience was my friend coaxing me to buy it, and he dragged me into a mothman operation, being a newtime player with no information, and being told "good luck" i was literally thrusted into realism
Fun Fact: At 5:53 it looked like Nam actually controlled one of those AI's through a system called Zeus based on how he moved. Zeus is a base game system that essentially allows you to turn your game into DND but for milsim. For the most part, Nam orchestrated the events in real time using zeus so it goes to show how free-flowing a game like Arma is. Do hope we get to see you cover more of this mod some other time.
fun fact: another mod often found used by us ARMA players is ACE3, as it adds a whole heap of functions that help with mission generation, a bunch of stuff that helps with gameplay, and my favourite piece: an advanced medical system where you have to fix yourself depending on where you got shot, including needing to account for blood loss, fractures, and wound types
I want to play as sergeant johnston in a halo game, as in, a whole campaign where I'm playing as sergeant johnston, maybe at the start of the human covenant war
As a more veteran Arma 3 player it's really unique to get perspectives from people who are just getting into it, be it basegame vanilla or straight into full conversion mods. You've definitely only touched on the surface of what's possible with OPTRE and supplementary mods alone. You're just on the surface, and I think it'll be neat to see what you delve into next. I've always wanted to see a virgin reaction to the OPTRE ODST drop pods, or a full-on Pelican insertion with human players. You won't forget your experiences with this.
I was marine corps infantry in real life. A realistic halo game would be legit af. It could be from a marine infantry’s point of view during the insurrection
Thanks a lot for giving this mod some publicity! Hopefully this will result in a larger playerbase, because this mod is truly unique and I just love it. I can't wait for the day I can play it myself.

5:33 "Thankfully he wasn't facing me, so I opened fire into his exposed anus"
That's the most epic thing I've heard today
Imagine a polished gamemode like this in infinite 😍
Arma is so good, nearly 1000 hours and I’m still finding new things with it. Hope you have more fun adventures with it man 👌🏼
I find it funny how quickly your 'eye roll' backfired on you. Been in that situation before, and it's worth an "Oh, shit..." moment once the reality hits.
Literally the entire reason I bought the game...
Do a combined arms operation. Having the pelicans, falcons, warthogs, scorpions, etc, all moving together toward the enemy is an awesome sight. Liru is another content creator who hosts optre operations, could see about joining one of their ops, that'd be pretty sick.
"I've played realistic games like Battlefield."
I swear there must've been a collective facepalm from us viewers
With almost a years worth of hours on arma 3, I can say without a doubt, it's more than a video game. It's a masterpiece
"Thankfully he wasn't facing me, so I opened fire into his exposed anus"
That shit caught me off guard XD
Hi there, im relatively new to arma 3 and have downloaded Operation trebuchet cause i love halo, but idk how or who to join. Do you know any servers or communities I could possibly join to play it? Because I have no idea how to set up stuff on my own
r/findaunit on reddit is usually for more 'realistic' military units. But facebook also has a pretty active arma 3 unit scene where you can find units who do specific things. Be it a normal military unit or playing as clone troopers from star wars.
There is also a page for finding units on the arma discord
Or the optre discord
DayZ if it still alive and well on Arma 3.
Ngl the Elites look hilarious when they drop on the ground and start crawling.
to think that 0s and 1’s make up most of our childhood
i love operation trebuchet, there arent enough servers for it, i would love an anti stasi halo themed
Its about time you checked this out! I’ve been waiting for you to review this :)
The way verything bins makes it seem so much like vr
This channel is one of my favorite things on the world. I just need to say that when I see a notification from this channel I click faster than the flash. When I watch you talk about any game, I love listening to you knit pick every detail, every mechanic, I love it.
LNG: Arma 3 is a video game
Me: Sold
I loved this. I love seeing people show so much passion in their presentation! I am the same way when seeing MCC mods get released, I just love me some Halo
I’m glad you liked it, spent months making those forerunner bunkers, ramps, walls etc. Also glad the Ai pathing worked well on all the structures that too was annoying to get working haha
I played this myself too, its AMAZING! Its my way of the Halo Infinite open world rumor. Thats what I loved about Halo ODST, the open world play, another great video Taras!
5:35 i did not expect that i fucking died lmao
this is such an amazing mod. I'm loving this. please play more of it
Just had this pop into my recommended videos, cool to see you've discovered Arma 3. The great thing about the sandbox nature of the game is you can tailor the experience to what you want, and the realism aspects certainly make it more tense than the average shooter. The OT mod really gives you the opportunity to see how those cinematics like Landfall would play out.
I’ve known Arma 3 existed for a long while but this might be what I needed to actually give it a try.
If you want, I can point you in a good direction to join a unit
pretty cool, my first arma experience was my friend coaxing me to buy it, and he dragged me into a mothman operation, being a newtime player with no information, and being told "good luck" i was literally thrusted into realism
The 82nd Special operations company would love to have you join us for some operations!
I was already tempted to get arma for the mods, now even more so
Arma is great in general, and it’s had quite the impact on the gaming world through its mods
i got 1000 hr in arma 3.... 70% of it was with this mod and halo mods
fun fact: another mod often found used by us ARMA players is ACE3, as it adds a whole heap of functions that help with mission generation, a bunch of stuff that helps with gameplay, and my favourite piece: an advanced medical system where you have to fix yourself depending on where you got shot, including needing to account for blood loss, fractures, and wound types
"Dungeons and Dragons for military enthusiasts"
So, Americans?
I want to play as sergeant johnston in a halo game, as in, a whole campaign where I'm playing as sergeant johnston, maybe at the start of the human covenant war
What a well made mod. The attention to detail really gets me going
Oh. How have I not seen this yet? Welcome to OPTRE
Hey, I recognize that name! greetings from Gamma Company
Late Night, your ability to tell stories is absolutely amazing! I loved this video.
You won't forget your experiences with this.
man this was melodramatic in the best way
I was marine corps infantry in real life. A realistic halo game would be legit af. It could be from a marine infantry’s point of view during the insurrection
*(Kills you with an RPG at point-blank range)*
*(Drops a thermonuclear device designed to destroy entire cities in one hit on you)*
Thanks a lot for giving this mod some publicity! Hopefully this will result in a larger playerbase, because this mod is truly unique and I just love it.
I can't wait for the day I can play it myself.
5:33 is my favorite part 😂
That music my brothers and sisters!. Pure chills.
So cool to see someone new come to this game. Arma 3 is my all time favorite
Oh fuck yes another vid. The topic doesn't even matter cause they're so good. Love your voice
“Arma 3 is a video game”
-Late Night Gaming
This quote will be remembered in the annals of history
It’s so fun hearing “yea I play realistic games like battlefield”
Over 2000 hours in Arma 3, and actually doing a whole map campaign with this mod on at the moment. Makes me feel closer to being in the books.
I've followed optre for a while... FINALLY, someone played as the halo 3 marines
