This might be the X-men omnibus with the most varied and yet consistently beautiful artwork. The quality control issues are quite a concern and should be addressed by Marvel immediately.
If it becomes evident that the ink plate issues are in fact pervasive across the first printing of both this and the ASM Vol. 3 reprint because of a rolling quality control issue with the printer, will you please consider advocating to David for some sort a recall or replacement offer for corrected copies? I can see informed buyers turning a blind eye to the ASM errors as a fluke as with the rare badly scanned source, but the same conspicuous issue now affecting two heavily pre-ordered reprints in two of their major lines is very troubling, and if becomes clear that it was in fact a number of titles printed in the same period by Imak, if not ongoingly, the publisher's going to have a huge problem on its hands if it doesn't account for the pattern of oversights.

The Outback Years were always my X-Men. That's really where I started collecting and that team has always been the "real" X-Men in my head. Lee got a lot of attention from me during his time, but looking back, Silvestri the artist whose issues hit me the hardest.
I pre-ordered the Art Adams cover for this one... I missed the OHC the first time around, but I was still heavily into buying single issues every month at the time. Now, I'm neck-deep in Omnis.... I loved this era of all of the books - don't consider this a lull by any stretch. As you said, I see this as more of an aftermath of Fall of the Mutants. You feel the weight of the loss of characters, twisted powers, etc, plus what happens during the time in the Outback. And, man, those Brood and Reavers issues are INSANE!! For me, Brett Blevins on New Mutants with Louise Simonson was one of the best eras of the book.
Cool, no need to upgrade/replace my OHC. Though if I knew the new omni would be this close (and cheaper) to the OHC, I would've sold mine a while back at the inflated prices and bought this one later.
The Outback baby!! I can’t wait till this one arrives in the mail. The DM cover is beautiful but I ended up getting the standard cover. Kind of wish I got the DM since the standard cover is on the actual book but I’m just glad to finally get it. I like your title idea in theory, however prologue seems more important than an aftermath. After feels like wrapping this up, whereas prologue feels like revving up for the main event.
I haven’t read Xmen Inferno yet because I’m waiting for this one. I might even get more petty and wait for Mutant Massacre, but waiting for Fall of the Mutants is too torturous for me. Now I know to get the DM Variant thanks to this overview. Muchas gracias Señor Omar.

I like what I've read from this material but most of it will be new to me .. great price I also seen they changed the Hellfire Gala edition from $100 to $75 which is really good .
A must buy for me. I have the Fall of the Mutant omni but have never owned the inferno prologue or "Fall of the Mutants Aftermath". I am so excited that it is still coming out in December.

Re: The titling. I'm utterly against words like aftermath or prologue because it diminishes the intrinsic impact of the stories in whatever book it is. The title for this one should habe been "X-Men: Out Back"
I can see that prologue works in this book since it really shows the things going on behind the scenes with Maddie, Magik becoming more and more Demon Chylde and the flashbacks with Cyke. Now Outback would work if it was just the X-men issues, but we have have the New Mutants and X-Factor in here. X-men Outback, New Mutants Grounded and X-factor’s New home. Or X-men and friends.
Great overview and comparison Omar, I would love it if you started mentioning where the new books are being printed right at the start of your reviews. Honestly, if a book is printed at Imak it seems to be a near certainty that the quality will not be great. The printing issues for ASM also seem to be widespread, mine has same issue, but the majority of people may not even notice without it being pointed out to them.
Got this on pre-order. This era, Mutant Massacre through Inferno, came when I was on a break from comics so looking forward to reading this. I'll hold on to this though until the Fall of the Mutants omni is reprinted.
Not a fan of them not having the comic issues on the backside. That is very annoying and I don't get why they did it that way. I'm excited that this book will be in my hands soon, assuming it doesn't get delayed again (BTW, your description says Sept 8th, not Dec 8th). After this, it's just Uncanny Volume 5 and a reprint of X-Tinction Agenda that all remains uannounced for Claremont's run.

My copy of the new printing doesn't have the faded blacks but on page 213 panel four you can see some white specks near the bottom right corner of the panel. That's the only real issue.Considering I was expecting the issue you noted I'm relieved.

Looking fwd to this, Outback years are also among my favorite of the X-men. Some of this stuff (like NM i have never read so a bonus there) So between this, and the upcoming FOTM Omni, are we looking at perhaps a UXM Omni 5 to fill in the gap between UXM Omni 4 and FOTM? Regardless its so satisfying to have the entire run of Claremont UXM in more or less Omni format.

I just really don’t like the Brood stories. I skimmed they these episodes while focussing in on the Madelyn Prior/Gateway panels, as well as anything else not related to the brood. Still, it was a great read. I’m almost finished up and am looking forward to getting into Inferno.
Omar, since you have so much influence in printing ideas and suggestions... and since X-Men sells, omnis sell, and since X-Men SA 1 and 2 are being reprinted next year.. depending if both volumes have good sales, why don't you suggest David a new omnibus: X-Men SA 3, with the contents of X-Men MMWs 7 and 8 (which have been OOP for a long time). Come on, we diserve X-Men completeness in Omnibus format.

Thanks brother and welcome aboard. Solicitations are when the books are ready for retailers in the direct market (cheap graphic novels , comic stores and Walt’s comic shop) to place preorders. Classic choice with FF volume 1.

I wanna get the batman hush deluxe edition and batman by gaslight deluxe but batman hush seems to be out of stock or print and the other one is out of print should i just go for the black and white deluxe of those books ?
So essentially no difference, except the new printing has nearly imperceptible more vibrant colors except for a handful of pages that have noticeably worse colors. No reason to upgrade then.
Hi omar I have uncanny xmen omnibus 1,2,3 and 4. Found out that in this omnibus included uncanny x men 228 -238 . Do you think , is worth to buy this omnibus for 10 stories? Omnibus 4 ended with nummer 193. And there is gap between 193 - 228.
- Uncanny X-men Omnibus 4 ends at issue 193. ( 194 to 209 are not available in omnibus format ) - Mutant Massacre Omnibus has issues 210 to 219 - Fall Of The Mutants (Omnibus or OHC the same) collects issues 220 to 227 If you want to know where are (some) of the missing issues between 193 and 228.
I would hope and imagine those issues would become uncanny volume 5.Also I would add that the other stories in the book besides the uncanny x-men issues tie in well....it is worth reading the other material.

Marvel should stop using similar covers for their omnibus; this cover is almost equal to the Classics Omnibus and the Excalibur vol. 2 omnibus and Im almost sure there is a 4th one with a similar one
Once again, you didn't show the eyes of the two books side by side! Your overviews used to always show the eyes and you quit doing that now that marvel has started making DC quality bindings that have little curve. This can't be a coincidence. I can no longer trust your reviews to be impartial because Marvel's sponsorship has clearly influenced you. I am thankful Marvel is printing all these new omnis, but the binding quality has gone to crap.

Surprised we haven't had a "House of M" omni yet with Wanda's popularity. Still have my fingers cross for it, though.
Once the MCU adopts the x-men I feel like any out of print x-men stuff is probably going to be whale status.

Marvel should stop using similar covers for their omnibus; this cover is almost equal to the Classics Omnibus and the Excalibur vol. 2 omnibus and Im almost sure there is a 4th one with a similar one

Once again, you didn't show the eyes of the two books side by side! Your overviews used to always show the eyes and you quit doing that now that marvel has started making DC quality bindings that have little curve. This can't be a coincidence. I can no longer trust your reviews to be impartial because Marvel's sponsorship has clearly influenced you.
I am thankful Marvel is printing all these new omnis, but the binding quality has gone to crap.
I have it on good authority this book doesn't exist, despite what you and Melanie say.
