Just recently started playing and chose a hobbit hunter. I'm loving it so far :D I'm just walking around the Shire, helping people out and hunting things, this feels like I'm actually part of the world!
Hunter is fine but I found as I got into the later levels on the legendary server, his ranged options were starting to shrink. Landscape works fine, but I found I couldn't solo instances as well as LM because of the melee battles. Hunter just isn't made for hand-2-hand combat. If you get just into range and can effectively setup your attack, yeah it's really fun and they will be dead before they reach you.
You actually forgot (??) the easiest solo class ever: The Beorninger. I have returned to Lotro after 8 years (mains used to be Hunter, Captain and Guardian) and I picked the Beo to start over. He is now my single main, because it whizzes through everything and hardly can be killed at all.
Oeh! This sounds so fun! I'll definitely check it out. I've never played the game (it's currently downloading) and I'm just checking online to see what the classes are etc. And this just sounds freaking AMAZING! Thanks for the heads up ❤
I always say that a Beorning is like taking a holiday in Middle Earth. Areas where my alts need to sneak around and pick off mobs one by one unless they be overwhelmed, you can just barge in a grab multiple mobs and not be worried you might end up dead and if you are defeated, you can try again in tank or healer line which increases your survival chances dramatically.
Yeah he is a great solo class, but he's boring at times. To always see the butt end of a bear like forever, I enjoy those moments where I have to change back to a man so I can cast a heal🙂
my first character was Loremaster back in the days when LOTRO came out. And oh boy it was fun! I had such a blast, especially when soloing higher level enemies. It was one time that I was trying (and succeeded) to solo 2 elite trolls in Evendim- Annuminas if I remember correclty. I had a whole crowd cheering for me out of nowhere for about 30 minutes. Not one intervene like gents and ladies they were, but most important not one complaint about taking so much to take them down. Good moments !!!
LM is my main - love the class. Also one to look at is Beorning - you can set it up to play on landscape with just one key - thrash - and easy mode your way to cap.
Yes! I like Beorning but didn’t want to include it simply cause I only have a level 40ish… so I didn’t want to recommend when I haven’t played it so thoroughly.
Don't know how I found this channel, but there aren't enough content creators for LOTRO. So sub'd and notified. I agree with these points, especially with how many players are returning in droves!
Aww thank you for the sub with notification! Videos come out every Friday! I have actually streamed LOTRO off and on (on Twitch) for about two years now but I’m trying to start building more content on other platforms-such as TH-cam which I have recently just started making videos for. Great game! One of the first games I’ve ever played and I definitely see a large group of people flocking back! I think Rings of Power really made me see a spike in viewership on twitch and it’s why I’m focusing more on LOTRO as a whole.
I have played a lot of the different classes but I saw that Hobbits can be Lore-Masters so even though it's hard to play the class(and very weird lore-wise, sort of) I really want to play a Willow-like character. Already have a name for him too!
Arkenstone. I personally don't play on it though lol. My two most frequent servers I play are Gladden and Crickhollow. Gladden has always been my home server for over a decade at least so I'm partial to it, but it's definitely not as active. Crickhollow is a good middle. But I know several people on Arkenstone and it definitely gives for more group content activities.
@@aubreytheweirdone i main on Brandywine. It’s got a great group of ppl on there . But yeah I’ve tried arkenstone but seems like lag hits more on that server
@@sarburst Yeah there are many players on Arkenstone so that could be part of it. Yes, I use to play with Brandywine but that was several years ago! I’m glad you’ve got a good group to play with!
Returning player here and I went with captain. It was certainly a great choice with how simple the mechanics are with buffs, some off healing, and damage. Hard to tell what the raiding or instance gameplay is cuz I'm halfway around the world my game is America's 5-7 am 😂
Have to disagree about the Lore-master. Granted that it loses pet effectiveness as you go up in level but it gets you there better than a squishy minstrel or rune-keeper. Best starters: Beorning, Brawler, Champion, Guardian, Hunter Less good starters: Burglar, Captain, Lore-master Beginners avoid: Minstrel (mechanics and squishy), Rune-keeper (squishy), Warden (mechanics)
good day again :D , sorry to bother you like this , but I want to ask you about the race that fits best to the guardian class , I have chosen now a human , I have not created him yet I hesitate a lot , well like this I'm a person who is crazy slow , thanks to the fact that I have cerebral palsy , what choice do you give me from all these races and classes? what is the most durable and terribly long lasting before he could die. thank you very much for your feedback, I appreciate it very much
No worries, it’s truly no bother! I have it in the works to come out with a video for best races vs classes. For now though, I recommend a guardian be a dwarf or human typically. Dwarf is best as they have a racial characteristic that buffs your two most important guardian stats-might and vitality (+15 might, +10 vitality). Not a stout-axe dwarf (they have a minus vitality characteristic). But just a regular dwarf. Men only have a +15 might buff so they are a good choice, but not the best for guard.
Thank you for your video! I am an mmo veteran (wow, swtor, eve, aion, AoC, etc) and I have never played this before. I am so excited for the mountain of content in a universe I love! I love your video and will be either running champion or Rune keeper. I usually run a dual wield class like frost dk in wow but I think im going to switch it up. Thanks for the info. It was concise and i could tell you know what youre talking about. Earned a sub from me.
Just found this TH-cam great info. Started a couple days ago and have been on TH-cam soaking up info. I’ve tried minstrel, rune class, guardian, beorning and about try captain. Can’t find one to stick too but I also haven’t leveled any past lvl 10 lol
I started Lotro a month ago. Made Lore-master as my first character, which is lvl 32 now. Started also Guardian - lvl 21 - but found it super boring compared to LM. Guardian is just basically all-around jack-of-all-trades -good, but lacks character because of that. My Beorning is lvl 20 & I think it's in-between. Personally like LM most enjoyable, but would hope Beorning's bear-form to be a bit stronger, so I could just attack everyone as a Giant Bear.
@@MrTenti Haha no worries! They can be good, just have to commit to the grind until they have better survivable chances which takes a bit of time. I hope you like it!
Had been playing for more than one year when last year's anniversary came and gave the level boosts for free... Tried to make a level 105 Warden from scratch by looking at online info for builds and tips, without ever have tried one. It was simply not possible, it's so hard to use i still cannot wrap my mind over how anyone would ever want to do that kind of mental gymnastics to play it. Lots of props for people who do it, but I had to keep a schema of all combos at all times next to me, and when I play I want to relax, not having to study again and again... Needless to say I gave up after 2 levels
Right! Yeah I don’t like the studying aspect of it either. I had the same setup and disliked it so much then when you get to the other classes, it’s not at all as tedious as warden. Yeah sorry your experience your first experience with the warden wasn’t the best! It’s a tough class.
I started with a Loremaster back when the game was released in 2007. I jump in every so often. I've recently have been playing the brawler and I enjoy that class. Champion being my highest toon, then Rune Keeper and Lore-master. Lore-master was a struggle when the pets couldn't properly keep aggro. Half the mobs health had to be gone before you could start cycling all your dots. You also had to be careful because your AOE's always seemed to pull further away mobs when you didn't expect it. Sigh...so many deaths.
Man I’m so sorry to your LM death count. When you mentioned the pets not properly keeping agro, I completely forgot about those times. I stopped playing loremaster and captains for a time because of that. You are a trooper!
I started with brawler and it's good, you one hit almost all the mobs, like at LVL 15 hit for 1900 damage it's crazy. Lore master is a good class but not at start, at LVL 50 is like really really good that red line has so much damage and then you can solo dungeons as blue line.
Yes! Brawler is so good! I wanted to include it in the video, but I only have a level 17 brawler so I didn’t have a good enough opinion to give it. My lore master is around level 54 now and she definitely is good, the grind just takes so long it didn’t feel worth it for awhile.
"You shouldn't play Warden for your first time or if you are just getting back" ... Unless your main before leaving was a Warden. That muscle memory can come back pretty quick. besides, the combo trees follow the same general concept. Like Red-Green is interrupts and three hit combos Red-Yellow is two hit combos with the 4th combo being a big shield bash Green-Red is morale taps and a heal over time skill etc. I haven't played in forever and I still know those trends in the combos
I’ve been playing a hunter since beta and I’ve been mostly solo since 2012. I’ve played every class but I always come back. Almost anything can be done solo. Even at higher levels I can often do damage fast enough to beat small fellowship quests or instances on my own. It takes judgment about who to attack first and who to stun and all of that, but it can be done. The travel skills make it really easy to get around. Hunters used to be in demand for taxi services quite a bit, but travel has gotten significantly easier for everyone over time. Hunters aren’t really in demand at end game just because there are so many of us. But I don’t care much for that anyways. And new players aren’t going to be (and shouldn’t be) anywhere near there for a long time. The story is too good to just rush to the end game grind. I probably only use 6 skills regularly even though I have many more. And if it’s just landscape mobs then I usually just use 2 skills. I like this because I spend less time worrying about skills and everything and more time focus on the story and the environment. Back when I played with friends I enjoyed using different skills more. I don’t think I’ve even touched traps since then.
Thanks for the insight on Hunter! They have gotten easier overtime and I like the way you break down the way you play it and how the class has grown throughout the years. Very insightful!
Don't know if this is out of date for class changes but I started with a Red Guardian currently level 25, and I can literally aoe down whole camps just using a 2 handed weapon.
The best class to play is the one that lags for you the least. I wish I was joking. And your wrong about guardian, they have tonnes of aoe. Especially in Yellow, people always sleep on yellow. Champ has more, of course, but is only dps. My go to class. Decent sustain dps, lots of heals and mitigations, can easily be built into a class that can fight 10 or so mobbs at once and just chew them up. Then press 1 button and be healed to full. Really new player friendly. That said, dps wise they aren't really wanted at endgame stuff, so if you are into that you will pretty much be tank and thats it. I would avoid captain unless your gonna play ONLY captain. This class has MAJOR scaling issues at higher levels, especially dps wise, easily the lowest dps class in the game right now, healing isn't as great as other specs and yellow is decent. Levelling my captain recently to 140 made me nearly quit the game, they are that slow, and that was me in red spec with a 2h! My sword and shield guard in blue line(tanking) did more dps than my red line (dps) captain. Captains start out great, then take a major dip in efficiency past level 100. Not to mention their pets suck, no really, they do barely any damage and are basically just there as a free heal every minute. Needs a buff in a major way. Warden isn't that hard, its just memorization. Plus the gambits are just the same imputs over and over. So if gambit chain 1 is 12, second is 121, third is 1212, fourth is 12121. The exception is the light damage aoes they only stack evade rating not damage so you can start out with desolation/surety of death and everything just dies. So group enemies up, aoe dot them down. Burglars are also a great class for new players. They have a unique playstyle, plus stealth is always fun for a first time playthrough. Plus plenty of cc, so you can take fights at your own pace and cc a bunch of stuff if you bite off more than you can chew. Minstrel is also a great class, who doesn't like screaming at stuff and watching it die? Can easily nuke everything while levelling, and are the great healers at endgame so you have utility. Brawler throws jugs of beer at enemies and punches things. Make it a female hobbit for the lolz and you wont regret it in the slightest. 100% correct on LoreMaster. You would think the pets would auto aggro stuff and have an aggro table, but they dont so you pretty much have to wait 5 seconds before you do anything. Sadly, their pets become quite weak after level 100 as well, they need a buff. RK. Such a great class. Lightning, fire or healing. Probably best pick for a player that wants variety. All specs are viable just different ways of playing. Fire is damage over time and induction, lightning has no inductions but more crit focused, quite enjoyable to play. 10/10 highly recommend. Beorning. You. Get. To. Turn. Into. A. Freaking. Bear. Nuff said. Great healers, decent tanks, pretty meh dps though. Blue line is pretty much permabear form. That said, my advice to new players is play all classes to level 50, and then pick one as a main you really like. We level really quickly these days and they removed all the deeds to get skill points which was a major hurdle.
I love my captain because: Heralds (pets) are cool Self-heals FOR GONDOR! Plus they are getting a buff to solo play so they will do more damage soon :) I'm only in the Lone-Lands so far but enjoying the journey. A bit nervous to get to Moria cause I think I start Legendary Items then and I have no idea how they work
All the reasons you listed are awesome! Yeah captains are great. My dad loved his captain and got it to level 60 (back when that was the max) and has fond memories of it. For the Legendary item system, it’s taken me so long to understand the new system. My chat just broke it down for me the other day that I now understand it. However, I’m not confident enough to make a video on it right now sorry 😅 I know Louey7 has some great guides that could help though!
Minstrel. Minstrel has the best healing skills, plenty of healing over time and are the primary healing class. Rune-keeper is a close second with captain close to the third. There are other classes that have decent self heals too, but the classes I mentioned having self-heals and healing skills for others in your fellowship too.
@@aubreytheweirdone Can Minstrel play well solo or does it struggle? Also, should I download LOTRO from their own site or Steam? I heard Steam is buggy? Lastly, does the base game I would download for free include ANY expansions
@@CandysChannel I haven't played a Minstrel recently as the class had some major changes done in the last few months, however, when I played Minstrel it was okay with soloing. Definitely could be a bit challenging in the beginner levels, but once I was near level 40, I could quickly take down a level 45 guardian with no problems so they were very powerful in the higher levels. For downloading LOTRO, I recommend downloading it from the site. I tried it on Steam once and it was buggy for me. And the base game does have several free expansions now. You get Moria and Rohan for free. You won't have to worry about buying packs or expansions until Gondor which is basically level 100. There are ways to get around paying any actual money to play LOTRO, which I will have a video out about soon. I was F2P for over 6 years of playing the game and now they have so many rapid discount sales and keep making more expansions free the more they come out with so there's so I truly wouldn't stress about not getting enough content as a F2P.
12 years later, LM would still be my first pick, the trait trees unlock at level 2, so early on you can set up a tanky set up(blue) and a dps set up (red), I think thr biggest issue people have on loremaster, is that they want to do big damage, and yes, LM can do that, but they're a glass cannon, you need to send your bear, give them protection signs, when you get the sound and purple arrows going inwards, you've got flanking, and the damage sign deals extra damage and heals a little. Biggest thing i see a lot, is the wrong pet for the job, solo, always bear. DPS burst, lynx (if the stealth hit works its a nice chunk early on). For a more ranged engagement in groups, bog guardian is best imo. LM has to rely a little on crowd control, cracked earth root, light of dawn stun, the bane flare (for undead) and the other flash stun for anything else. Lms have good AoE, but it's also smart to crowd control and burn down one at a time so you and your summon don't get overwhelmed. If they're hitting you, your induction gets set back and you can't get the skill out
I started to play three weeks ago, I'm now level 51 LM. I couldn't ask for a better class for me. It's like a mage with too much cc and a pet. I played mage in wow, so I'm used to being squishy. Also I played lightning sorcerer in swtor and black mage in FFXIV, so it's right up my alley. Kinda glad I didn't start a hunter. They are always the best noob class, but I rather identify with the intellectual aspect of LM. And I didn't die until I hit the elite spot in Lone Lands and didn't realize they were elite until it was too late.
@@alucardsolaire5306 So the story is different depending on race. So if you do Shadows of Angmar tutorial, it has a different story and place for each race, but after the short cutscene you'll end up in the same two locations depending on race. Archet (hobbits and man) or Thorin's Hall (Elves and Dwarves). There are different stories too for High Elves, Stout-Axe Dwarves and Beornings too.
I played this game for about a year over 13 years ago, and while I enjoyed it, it always felt like a single-player game to me. I know many would disagree, especially now that most MMORPGs are PvE-focused. But as an MMO veteran who’s been playing since 2000, having played almost every major MMORPG out there, I’ve seen the golden era of MMORPGs from 2004 to 2010, when most games were heavily PvP-focused. Because of that, I’m still very PvP-focused (unfortunately). For me, there’s no point in dedicating the massive amount of time it takes to develop a character’s raw power in an MMORPG if I can’t directly compete with other players. PvP Arenas and Battlegrounds are the bare minimum to keep me invested (I loved World PvP too, but I could live without it). That being said, when I played, there wasn’t any of this PvMP stuff. From everything I’ve read and seen about it, it doesn’t really feel like PvP to me. So... as a veteran LOTRO player, how would you describe the current state of PvP in the game? And if the PvP is garbage, how could someone like me enjoy it without feeling like i felt before, that I’m just playing a single-player game with a built-in social network?
You missed out on a key part of the game then. Like many games, kinships are where you meet people you play with on a daily basis. When I started on Landroval back in 07, I joined up with a kinship, Baruk Khazad, and it was the best of times. Like with any game, it loses its luster as players stop playing, for various reasons, and I do miss those days. You have to engage people if you want to enjoy the community. I see it every day on Angmar, 6 adventurers out questing. I tend to rp my solitary life, to give it meaning, but I understand what you mean. It's my fault for not taking that step, I can't expect people to invite me.
@@patrickdezenzio4988 When I mentioned that this game has a single-player feel, I didn’t mean it felt like I was playing entirely alone-I played alongside plenty of people. It’s just hard to describe why it still felt like a single-player experience with others around. To me, playing an MMO means being able to actively compete with other players. If I can’t do that, it doesn’t feel like a true multiplayer game. Another MMORPG that gives me a similar vibe is Final Fantasy XIV; I played it for two years because it’s my sister’s favorite, but even there, one of the most popular MMORPGs today, it felt like a single-player game aswell.
My first character ever was also a Lore Master, but I had a different experience to you. Sure, they are a little squishy at first, but I loved the challenge. I don't think I'd recommend against it. My LM is still my main.
I would not recommend new players to play with a guardian despite it being officially categorized as being basic in terms of difficulty by the game devs. The guardian is the number 1 tank (defender) and the minstrel is the number 1 healer for groups from 3 people onwards. The guardian has as much pressure as the minstrel because if one of those 2 classes died, it could make the whole group lose the fight. I would recommend the most for new players to begin first with the hunter as the hunter has more fast travel skills than the other classes which is good for new players who would prefer to try the video game first before paying. The hunter has not much pressure as they can pretend to play by clicking on the automatic attack unlike the guardian or the minstrel who have to play seriously or the group will die. Then I would recommend the champion in second place as the champion is easy to use and has the least pressure with the hunter when playing in group. If the hunter didn't have the fast travel skills then I would have recommended the champion for new players as playing with a hunter needs more thinking, planning and preparation like putting traps before attacking your foes as the hunter is weaker in melee and can't wear a heavy armor unlike the champion who can wear heavy armor and can attack the foes with less thinking, planning and preparation than the hunters.
Folks looking for complexity, challenge, and depth in a class SHOULD choose Warden, in my opinion. My solution to the complex skill combinations is to learn them. I know, I know, obviously. But I am amazed the players simply don't understand the requirements of playing as a Warden. I made my own list of Gambit collections. Step one is: Don't play in the ranged stance when solo. You just give up too much capability as you are generally going to end up in melee anyway. And usually with hordes of enemies. Step two is: Start Simple. Don't try to learn everything at once. Learn the basic chains for Heals, ST DPS, AOE DPS, ST+DOT DPS, AOE+DOT DPS, Defense. Practice those chains until they are second nature. Doing Slayer virtues is a great way! Once you know the chains, you are half-way there. Then start in on the finishers, buffs, and so forth.
Well LOTRO is more of a grind to other MMOs in the way of getting to the end game content. So if you’re looking to get all the way to the max level, yeah it’s gonna take a while to get there. However, if you want to play for raids, instances and some of the community content, I recommend LOTRO as you can quickly get to this content after playing for a few hours. I do recommend watching my reasons to play LOTRO video in 2023. They just announced a new expansion and class later in the year, so this is a great time to get started with the game and get ready for even more game content later this year.
@@aubreytheweirdone I'm familiar with the grind I'm a Classic wow player. I am currently installing Lotro so lets see how this goes lol. The world itself is honestly enough to make anyone want to check it out.
Content is only locked behind paywalls until level 95 I believe. It’s either 95 or 105… not sure, but you actually don’t need to pay. If you put in a lot of time, you can complete deeds in the game that will reward you with LOTRO points and those are what you need to pay for all the additional content so you can play it entirely for free! I’ve done it for several years. Standing Stone will also put these quest packs and expansions on sale a few times a year too so you have plenty of opportunities to get around the paywall!
Once the guardian is high level the AOE becomes more than enough to tear down easily big groups of mobs... Little less damage than yellow champion of course, but the extra durability makes it just as effective
Hmm, I’m a heavily solo play oriented player, however I’m also a returned player(stopped 2015, returned only last september) so some of my impressions about the classes I do not prefer may be still outdated. LM is very complex and obscure class as you mentioned, and I heard that as pet stat do not scale well at the high Lv recently so I understand the choice. It was pretty good class to solo in the old days but I believe it is not anymore, especially for newcomers. Hunter has been good class to solo for long, maybe after blue line trait tree was invented. Very easy choice. Warden is simply too strong class to solo and can do every contents with only two gambits after Lv 80 thus I cannot agree with the choice at first, but yellow Warden will be gone soon after U35 then I could barely agree. Champion/Guardian were never that great solo classes in terms of soloing group contents or fast swift leveling, but could be simple, stable and intuitive, so I think that’s your standard especially compared to Warden. But then Captain makes no sense at all. It is even more group contents oriented class than Guardian and actually similiar to somewhat tankier LM. I see lots of people pointing that out. Maybe Brawler would be better choice similiar to red Champion. And I think RK is still decent soloing class, even though not as those good old days, however it is good similar to the way of Warden. It may resemble other RPG’s mage class however not that easy and intuitive(better than LM, only that I admit). I believe red Minstrel rather fits your standard better than RK. It has bit less utility than yellow RK but better AOE burst damage and much easy to control. Minstrel’s group role is different from soloing, though yellow RK is also not group contents friendly. I know RK is easier to do high tier delvings, but then the best class for delving is that Warden. I tried to achieve more consistency from my point of view. I enjoyed your video and expecting more. Thank you.
Also lots of people mention Beorning’s high soloing potential, however I feel it is somewhat easier Warden in terms of your standard. So I think it would be in the opposite side to Champion and Guardian.
Beornings are an advanced class that is difficult to use BUT Beornings work twice as hard at everything as healers, tanks etc because their abilities come from Rage and the ability to switch between man and bear. Doing something usually costs you rage which you never have enough of. But don't let that frighten you, it's a bit like the warden, you need to use certain skills to boost your rage, switch between forms and always, always enter a fight with rage fully topped up. You have potions that will give you rage and one skill that instantly raises it to 100, which I usually keep for panic situations or if I'm going to be rezzed and I need to start healing the moment I'm up again rather than lose precious time to rebuild my rage. Once you do get over that curve, you can plan ahead and keep up your rage like a boss. The other day I was doing an instance with a rather squishy captain healer and a fairly OK champ. I knew this big group of mobs was about to pop in and so I put sacrifice (absorb damage from another) on the cappie, used my mass aggro skill, put up my Thickened Hide (60% damage resistance and healing on each hit), hit the second aggro skill, hit the self heal and then also healed the champ. That's how awesome Beornings can be if you learn to play them. Beornings are the only tanks that can heal others if required ... On landscape they are usually so tough, unless you look for trouble with some major foes or way too many mobs, you can usually survive such fights quite easily though their lack of AOE skills makes them slow to clear them all one at a time. As for the Lore Master they have two issues, one they do rely massively on pets to do a lot of work, and they also have some pretty solid attack skills, but most come with a significant casting time that can be slowed or even interrupted. If you do group instances, you'll often feel silly since you can barely get one attack in and even tough mobs die by the time the induction of your second attack has barely begun. Two, they are in high demand in yellow line and there is a paradox since you normally don't do yellow in landscape so there is no real incentive to learn all those fancy abilities unless you start doing instances all the time. The main strength of LM's in instances is their ability to control mobs, less so than their combat abilities. They can stun, scare, debuff and drain mobs and bosses. They are required in some instances to control certain mobs and prevent mechanisms in the instance from happening. Brawlers are very much a medium difficulty class with some finesses regarding their damage boosts etc, but they are like the Beorning and Guardian, extremely durable, but have some really good DPS which means they can take on multiple mobs at any time and their damage means they don't have to solo each one in turn like the Beo, or depend on lower damage with bleeds like the Guardian. I tried tanking, but had some bad experiences with them. Warden, if you want to play one, my answer is, sure, as your main focus character and keep playing until you know it inside out. Some people have multiple chars, and some people have a Warden. Minstrel is an underrated class because their red line in landscape is pretty damn scary. They are squishy, but most of their skills and attacks are ranged and instantaneous, which means they deal some solid damage and they are second to none when doing deeds (no need to run up to mobs and hit them in the face), because even hunters have induction times. A solid red line Mini can really lay down the hurt if needed, single damage or even AOE. Champs are fantastic if you need to do missions or do mob-heavy areas. There is a trait for Champs that will give them a self heal after each foe they defeat so they can run into a brace of mobs aggro them and then start to slice and dice, seeing their morale drop, but then go up again with each mob they defeat. Try that with other classes and it can take up a whole lot more time to get them done.
I heard that the champion was nerfed compared to last years and it’s much more difficult to play for him now than before, that the recovery percentage was taken away from them, is that true?
@@user-lotro1ordbrid The update brought their AOE damage to a lower average, but after complaints that the Champ is the only viable AOE close range heavy class with a whole dedicated line they got a 25% flat damage boost to compensate with the promise of an overhaul at some point. They also lost some self-healing, but it's still viable.
Warden is a class that is AMAZING... if you have macros... and agree not a great class to play first. Last time I played was right after Warden came out and this has been the case since the class launched. If you either have excellent memorization or can set up macros it can be the best class for running solo as you can mix up your combos to meet whatever situation you run into. Single most versatile class in the game. Learning curve is a cliff face though.
The hunter is a good choice as they kill fast, level fast and can get around the world much better than any other class including the warden. They can port and tie to camp fires.
Almost a returning player. My characters are currently in the abyss known as the closed servers. Three + years of waiting for them to allow transfers… probably 3 more to go
My very first class to play, 16 years ago, precisely... was the one to "avoid". I would not avoid classes as a new player, just experiment and have fun :) Lore master is a great class, sure is not for everyone, but as everything in mmos, is just a matter of playing.
Hadnt much time recently especially because of the timezones I couldnt really follow your streams and wasnt that much interested in SWTOR but i love that you decided to upload these videos. I must say I agree with you in all points, I feel like people could start with warden but they have enough time and fun and really want to completely dive into the game. I am fire btw if you remember me😄
HEY FIRE! Hope you’re doing well! Time zones suck! But thanks for checking out the videos! There will be more videos every Friday! Yeah I definitely believe anyone could start with any class, but some take a little more patience and time. Like Lore-Master totally a good class to start with but it takes A LOT more patience-y’know with the likelihood of dying more 😅 But I’m glad you stopped in and enjoyed the video 🙂 Hope all is going well for you!
@@aubreytheweirdone Yes i am doing well so far, i hope so do you. 😄 That sounds great ill be def looking forward to watch them. honestly i think you can even play them quite okay without dying just the quality of the gameplay isnt high enough to keep yourself entertained because itll just be a random button pressing game, you wont even know what your abilities and then youll have problems to keep yourself useful in later stages of the games especially raids etc. I think you could get yourself into it in later stages of the game too but imo you couldve hat it easier and maybe your performance on your class could be higher too
Nice video, I recently got back into LOTRO after years. Used to play tons all the way from shadows of Angmar, thorough Moria and Mirkwood. Played a little of Isengard but that was around the time I was starting to drop the game. Honestly a really nice video and great for newcomers or a refresher Good recommendations for the classes, the one I'd recommend the most to new players is Captain with it's ability to do anything and it's really easy to solo and people always want one in a group. One question, what is that big witch hat your character was wearing in the RK segment?
Hey there! Thanks for the nice comments! I also used to play a ton in the early days, but I took a huge break a bit after Rohan came out. For the witch hat, I don’t remember the name of the item, but I know I got it from the fall fest! It’s a seasonal thing.
LM isn’t that hard and they scale quickly as you lvl and get your skills and in many cases you can do quests that are supposed to be for multiple people if you can manage your skills properly
YES! That was my first like grinder character was the minstrel. I made it as a meme to say I play music so bad they die, but then I actually really liked it. And for the overhaul, not sure. My guess is near the end of this year, but I keep hearing the date get pushed back so maybe more like 2024,2025.
@@aubreytheweirdone I've teleported to some event in Shire, couldn't figure out how to do any event tasks then couldn't figure out how to return to my questing area + mounts are cash shop only items which is sad
@@rufur2 oh no! Yeah it’s difficult at first but there’s actually a few tricks to get a mount quickly in the game without spending money! I’ll have a video out for this hopefully soon!
My wife and I just started playing the game and you know what we picked? Loremaster and Warden :P Thanks for this video! We're going to switch to Runekeeper and Champion instead.
Oh goodness lol. Yeah LM and Warden are tough, but sometimes can be fun. It's all personal preference, but if you get around level 20 and find the game isn't enjoyable, I would say it probably is cause of class.
I would disagree with you on Lore master and on rune keeper and swap them around. Lore master is very powerful right now. Far more so then it ever has been, most mobs do not even make it to my lore master and bigger mobs the bear easily tanks. The Rune keeper on the other hand dies so easily, it's damage is not what it used to be. Not saying it is a bad class, as it can do good damage and it is currently the best healing class in the game, but solo leveling is ruff with it at the moment. Hunter is a good class if you only want to solo, by the time you get to end game there are so many classes that can DPS they are not in high demand for raids and such late in game. Classes that would be in high demand are Tank classes like guard or brawler, healing classes like RK or minstrel, and support classes like lore master or captain, and some of these are a blast to level up. Note that guard and captain are slower and better to level up with a friend, and other like Minstrel or Rune Keeper are not super sturdy and again best leveled with a friend, though all can be soloed in the end. Not saying don't plat a hunter just know that they are harder to get into raids, but not impossible. One other thing I would say about starting a new class in LOTRO, don't worry about how hard a class is stated to play, every class is very learnable and you get 1 or 2 skills at a time. Plenty of time to learn what they do, so even the more complex classes are not that hard to learn as long as you do not level skip. If you are new, do not level skip, you miss out on how to play your class, and will get over whelmed. The best part of this game is the journey not the destination.
Point on mods: the entire world needs to move past needing a program to think for them. Read your skills people. Practice them. It's way more rewarding. Very nice video thank you for your help :-)
Yeah, I personally don't like that we have to add mods to games to make them more fun. Either the game devs add the stuff in themselves or us players go to a different game if we don't wanna learn it. Just my opinion. Thanks for watching!
I haven't played in years but from what I can remember the Guardian has some great AOE I used to tank 7-10 orcs using AoE and their not as squishy as champs but things might of changed.
Yeah Guardians are still tougher than champs and have good aoe. I can’t remember guardians having many aoe skills years ago, but I feel like they may have less now…I can’t remember 😅
FIrst of all, u dont need to learn a lot of skill combinations as a warden. U just need to learn how the class works, as for every other class. If u get how Gambits work, and they are pretty simple, it is very easy to play. If we go into mastering it and play it on the highest possible skilllevel, yes, it is one of the more difficult. Not as difficult as burglar but still difficult. U just need to understand, that there are different gambit lines and the most important are all build the same way. fist-spear, fist shield, spear-fist, spear-shield --> it is all about 1-2 to 12345 and then there some other which u need to learn and remember, but not much. And if u put ur shortcuts in a special pattern u always use, u can just train ur muscle memory and u will always automatically do what u need to do. I started playing warden as my main class in 75 and I still play it and I can recommend it to really everyone who wants to be a spartan in middle earth xD
For "Guardians are slow": throw away that shield, use a 2h, and go red line. In red line, guards are better in aoe than a red champion, and better in single target than yellow champion. Not that specialised, but much more flexible, and you don't need 5 aoe skills to kill mobs, you can do that with your 3 skills. I usually pull 5-10 mobs, and blow them down on the 2-3. aoe skill. It's 2023, not 2007, if you say that "guardians are slow" you don't understand this game well.
@@aubreytheweirdone Sorry, I didn't mean to offend you, just there are so many players who says that guardians are slow, and it is very not true for the last couple of years. I just want more people to try this cool class, and don't worry about the slowness. (Captain is really slow on the other hand.)
@@petertoth7575 No worries, I definitely see your point. Maybe my mindset of guardians come from my previous years of playing the game. Captains are slow too for sure 😅
I found LM easier than champion. I've played champion for 17 years, have him at 140 (yeah I know I need to get him to 150) and pretty much know him inside and out. Then I go to Angmar and my first class was Beorning. Fun class, took him to level 44 and got bored, so I started a LM. Took him to level 50. Very fun class, easy too and I know they will nerf because they always do, but I was able to own mourning wraiths and soloed every instance in the game until the very end when I had to rethink my build. I used a red LM for pretty much 1-50. It was easier once I got the spells right. Burn down bosses in 15 seconds and all of their minions. I went with fire with lightning that added fire DOTs and of course maxed ring of fire. Melt city. I did try blue line but hated it. I felt too squishy and had to hide behind my pet and watch him slowly whittle down the boss. Boring, especially when they respawn before you are done. So redline all the way.
Your lore-master comments seem to be straight out of 2007. I rarely use more than 2-3 spells per mob, while one-shotting regularly with Lightning Strike in landscape. You get incredibly strong ultimate skills like Nature's Fury that can take down even elite bosses in seconds. In contrary to your statement the pet does nothing in terms of damage even in blue line builds; pets are solely used for tanking, buffing and debuffing nowadays. Finally, you have a ton of cc skills and great self-healing to increase survivability. The lore-master might take some more time to master than hunter or champion, but it is no rocket science anyway and miles from the warden in terms of complexity. So anyone who likes the class fantasy should absolutely try one out, even as the first char.
LOL literally NO class is difficult in lotro solo play. LM solo leveling was maybe hard 10years + ago. LM is hard to play or master in group cause you can do a lot beside a bit of debuffing. Would agree to the warden otherwise if someone never played lotro he could start and learn this different skill type too. And agree ofc to the other recommended classes since those are pretty faceroll style this days. Whereas champion was hard in old days since so many physical attacks missed (incl. evade and parry). But yeah pretty easy and solid now.
@@mongoosemcmongoose2786 Haha I only have this video and one other. Then lots of past streams. More content coming soon I swear! Gotta start from somewhere right!
I can understand avoiding warden and lore master for new players, but that was interesting about how some new players use captain as they are similar in mechanics "lore" to lore masters and require an understanding of some of the intermediate game mechanics (like trigger on enemey death) - also, champion was a nice underdog to mention here as everyone loves hunter xD
Totally agree and YES! I love champion. I mostly included captain as a lot of people I know who are new players try captain and fairly enjoy it. Besides captains and have heavy armor so they can take more hits in comparison to lore-masters when starting out. I think that’s mostly why I included captain and mentioned that about lore-master
Good grief... the music in the background is way too loud...😖 And why the heck do I have to listen to some jazz lounge music in a LOTRO-video 😵💫🎶🎵🎷☠⚡🔥
Beorning not in top 5, blasphemy. 😁 Srsly, the easiest class for solo play, imo. Wardens are awesome until you feel the lag of LOTRO, then you're more likely to miss the gambit combos then to pull one off.
Beorning is definitely good. I honestly haven’t played it enough to confidently put it on this list, but it is sure to be next on the list. Yeah warden is tough with lag! I’ve experienced the missing combos so many times lately.
Imo the Warden is the most fun you can have in LotRO and the class is not as hard to figure out as folks make it look like. For example ranged Warden is the easiest way to solo high tier delvings imo. Travel skills, forced march and easy aoe rotation on landscape trash mobs make it an easy class for questing. I'm sad that I listened to those "super hard" rumors all those years ago and only picked up the Warden after 8 years. Now I play 4 Wardens on several levels and only pick anything else if needed. --> If you know a decent Warden player who agrees to teach you the ways, go ahead - no regret. Only downside is that it's hard to tell yet how much fun Wardens will be after the rework.
Wardens are fun and yeah who knows how they’ll be after the rework. It’s just not a good starter class simply because they have a skill execution style different from any other class. But I do recommend warden once someone gets to know LOTRO a little more.
I don't know why you would say the Warden is hard..yeah it needs some training to get used to it but by level 20-30 you should be really able to understand the gambit system nicely..and one you get mastery skills you can prepare before attacking a foe and start the battle with your most damaging skill(like Surety of death) and it almost instantly wins you a battle.

Just recently started playing and chose a hobbit hunter. I'm loving it so far :D I'm just walking around the Shire, helping people out and hunting things, this feels like I'm actually part of the world!
RIGHT! It’s so cool! Sooner or later you’ll be on your way helping people all over Middle-Earth! It’s such a fun game!
Hobbit hunter was my first character, always fun
@@Naturalcalvezilla Love a good hunter! I always loved making the goal to essentially destroy everything before it would even get one hit on me 😅
@@Naturalcalvezilla it really is :D I tent to gravitate towards hunter classes in games in general. I just love a good archer!
Thanks for the heads up ❤
it’s just not interesting to play as him, it’s the same as watching a movie about Superman, no intrigue
I always say that a Beorning is like taking a holiday in Middle Earth. Areas where my alts need to sneak around and pick off mobs one by one unless they be overwhelmed, you can just barge in a grab multiple mobs and not be worried you might end up dead and if you are defeated, you can try again in tank or healer line which increases your survival chances dramatically.
ye, its like easy warden back in a day. who could solo anything
I think Rings of Power really made me see a spike in viewership on twitch and it’s why I’m focusing more on LOTRO as a whole.
with my hunter, I can lay so many traps that I can defeat Elite enemies on my level without them even touching me ^^
I have played a lot of the different classes but I saw that Hobbits can be Lore-Masters so even though it's hard to play the class(and very weird lore-wise, sort of) I really want to play a Willow-like character.

Awesome pick! Yeah captain is great! Hope you enjoy!
Have to disagree about the Lore-master. Granted that it loses pet effectiveness as you go up in level but it gets you there better than a squishy minstrel or rune-keeper.
Best starters: Beorning, Brawler, Champion, Guardian, Hunter
Less good starters: Burglar, Captain, Lore-master
Beginners avoid: Minstrel (mechanics and squishy), Rune-keeper (squishy), Warden (mechanics)
good day again :D , sorry to bother you like this , but I want to ask you about the race that fits best to the guardian class , I have chosen now a human , I have not created him yet I hesitate a lot , well like this I'm a person who is crazy slow , thanks to the fact that I have cerebral palsy , what choice do you give me from all these races and classes? what is the most durable and terribly long lasting before he could die. thank you very much for your feedback, I appreciate it very much
No worries, it’s truly no bother!

LM gets much better as you lvl and you’ll find you can do things that many other classes can’t sue to the CC and good AOE skills,
Downloading now and then to create my first character!
YES! What class did you choose?
@Aubreytheweirdone I definitely broke your rule and went Lore-Master... I couldn't help it lol.
@@MrTenti Haha no worries! They can be good, just have to commit to the grind until they have better survivable chances which takes a bit of time. I hope you like it!
@@aubreytheweirdone So far it is slow but I'm very interested in the class. This is why we need you! You are the best!
Thanks! Just getting back into the game, nver got far before
Nice! Just be patient. It can feel repetitive and seem like a lot, but once you get past those hurtles, it’s a great game!
Don't forget the absolutely broken volcanic runestone on red line runekeeper, one shots everything at low levels
Years ago for warden i wrote down all the gambits and read them a few times ..... to this day i kno every combo
Can you please make a playlist of ALL your lotro content so I can binge it?
There’s a playlist called All LOTRO videos available on the homepage or the playlist section of the channel
@@aubreytheweirdone OH GREAT! THANK YOU. I didn't see it lol
"You shouldn't play Warden for your first time or if you are just getting back"
... Unless your main before leaving was a Warden. That muscle memory can come back pretty quick. besides, the combo trees follow the same general concept. Like Red-Green is interrupts and three hit combos
Red-Yellow is two hit combos with the 4th combo being a big shield bash
Green-Red is morale taps and a heal over time skill
etc.
Yes, out of date now but I will be trying a 2 handed guardian soon! Everyone has been telling me they are great
The best class to play is the one that lags for you the least.
Nicely said! Thanks for passing along the advice.
100% agree on warden and lore-master. Warden was my first and I died 10 times before hitting level 20. They are brutal to start!
Yes, definitely takes awhile to learn them. It’s not easy.
I love my captain because:
Heralds (pets) are cool
Self-heals
FOR GONDOR!
Plus they are getting a buff to solo play so they will do more damage soon :)
I'm only in the Lone-Lands so far but enjoying the journey.
12 years later, LM would still be my first pick, the trait trees unlock at level 2, so early on you can set up a tanky set up(blue) and a dps set up (red),
I think thr biggest issue people have on loremaster, is that they want to do big damage, and yes, LM can do that, but they're a glass cannon, you need to send your bear, give them protection signs, when you get the sound and purple arrows going inwards, you've got flanking, and the damage sign deals extra damage and heals a little.
I wish there are more classes in this game that align with dark fantasies, like necromancer, cultist or witch.
That would be cool! Maybe in the future!
Right on. Thanks for sharing.
No problem! Thanks for watching!
Thank you, I am currently playing because I'm a lotr fan and I'm having a blast as a Elf Champion!
Yes elf champs are great!!
Agree, he is so much fun. So I wonder, do every class has a different starting story ?
Another MMORPG that gives me a similar vibe is Final Fantasy XIV; I played it for two years because it’s my sister’s favorite, but even there, one of the most popular MMORPGs today, it felt like a single-player game aswell.
can someone power level my toon on gladden its 120
My first character ever was also a Lore Master, but I had a different experience to you. Sure, they are a little squishy at first, but I loved the challenge. I don't think I'd recommend against it. My LM is still my main.
Nice! Honestly whatever works for you and for anyone else out there, is all that matters.
Loremaster was my first character, I loved it.
@@BlackBinderGames Lore-Master is my main rn XD It’s quite fun now
Folks looking for complexity, challenge, and depth in a class SHOULD choose Warden, in my opinion.
Thank you for sharing steps for Warden! This will greatly help!
Thanks for the video!

I wanna check out LOTRO but is the time commitment even worth it compared to other MMOs?
@@nolanrobinson1495 for sure! Yeah it’s definitely worth playing just for middle earth!
Great video! Love lotro!
Thanks! And yes LOTRO is my most favorited MMO.
With it being free to play is content locked behind paywalls? This has recently peeked my interest and I want to get into it.

Yes for sure!
Great video!!
Thanks so much!
Beornings are an advanced class that is difficult to use
BUT
Beornings work twice as hard at everything as healers, tanks etc because their abilities come from Rage and the ability to switch between man and bear.
Yes! Love a good hunter!
I'm going to check it out soon as they upgrade to a new engine. It has a lot of stuttering and UI scaling problems in 4K.

honestly i think you can even play them quite okay without dying just the quality of the gameplay isnt high enough to keep yourself entertained because itll just be a random button pressing game, you wont even know what your abilities and then youll have problems to keep yourself useful in later stages of the games especially raids etc. I think you could get yourself into it in later stages of the game too but imo you couldve hat it easier and maybe your performance on your class could be higher too

@@Supadrumma441 Haha I wish it was that easy my friend
LMs are great for starting a new character. Blue tree eagle should be the pet of choice at lower levels.

Yeah, I personally don't like that we have to add mods to games to make them more fun. Either the game devs add the stuff in themselves or us players go to a different game if we don't wanna learn it. Just my opinion. Thanks for watching!

"Nuber one class to avoid; Loremaster"
Me; well...might explain my poor solo experience x)
Really enjoyed the vid!
Yellow champ goes shing shing
For "Guardians are slow": throw away that shield, use a 2h, and go red line.
In red line, guards are better in aoe than a red champion, and better in single target than yellow champion. Not that specialised, but much more flexible, and you don't need 5 aoe skills to kill mobs, you can do that with your 3 skills. I usually pull 5-10 mobs, and blow them down on the 2-3. aoe skill.
It's 2023, not 2007, if you say that "guardians are slow" you don't understand this game well.
Hi Peter, thanks for your comments. I appreciate your thorough analysis of the game.
So redline all the way.
thanks
Just rolled a Hobbit Champion. Hope its on your list. :)
So awesome! I have yet to play a hobbit champion, but I’m sure it’s great!

@@Supadrumma441 RIGHT
Your lore-master comments seem to be straight out of 2007.
I'm going warden I wanna be a speedy tank
Best class in the game: Warden, but very hard to master. And true, not recommended for beginners in the game.
Totally agree
I love warden to death but as an EU player the Ping makes this class way less enjoyable than it could be if i was sitting next to the server :')
Oh man, that definitely sucks 🥺
@@aubreytheweirdone basically always a pink of 107-110
@@rasrandir Dang! I’m so sorry the ping is terrible and it’s affecting your gameplay.
Yeah LOTRO has changed the gameplay not to be as difficult compared to the old days 😅
+1 sub b/c this is super informative and EXACTLY what I was looking for =D
Aww thanks! Glad this was helpful for you!
@@aubreytheweirdone anytime!
You rock :)
@@mongoosemcmongoose2786 Thank you 🥹
@@aubreytheweirdone welcome!
time to dive into your other LOTRO stuff =D
I think that’s mostly why I included captain and mentioned that about lore-master
i've only ever played lore master when i play lotro haha
magic go pew pew
I’m that way with Bards/Minstrel in any game. Whichever works for you is totally great! 👍 Be the next Gandalf!
leave wardens aloneeeee..yes it can be difficult but!...it also makes me think while playing so i don't just smash buttons
That’s fair!
lo start with the ones you dont advise then make them sound appealing thats a great way of discouraging people lmfao (#sarcasm)
😂🥲
champ! champ! champ! champ!
Good grief... the music in the background is way too loud...😖
And why the heck do I have to listen to some jazz lounge music in a LOTRO-video 😵💫🎶🎵🎷☠⚡🔥
Warden or bust.
anyone want to play??? im tryna start maybe with some new friends ... hit me up.
That backgroundmusic is UNBELIEVABLE annoying.
