Do yourself a favor, start with VB, add C#, Python, Java and JavaScript to your skill set. Nonetheless, VB is a great language, I have written great web applications with it.

Can you compile to a .exe? I am fluent in VB6 but no longer have a copy and am finding its quite expensive to obtain a second hand copy through ebay. Wondering if vs community will be a more practical solution for a very simple project i need to work.

Yes in the new versions only bugs are fixed or overlay is changed to make software look good and make it easier for user to use
