    Amazing as always. Inspiring and motivating, and that’s putting it mildly.
    There seem to be a lot of voices out here today talking about how much trouble the illustrated story-telling medium is in these days, but every time I see one of your videos, a post of your latest work or open one of your incredible books and just look through it I think no, the future is brighter than ever.
    I have no idea exactly what “it” is that the great ones always have, Siya, but you sure have a lot of it.

    Siya- this is more of a theory than a tested approach, but you may be able to reduce the ink flow on your brush pens by a couple of means. One thing to bear in mind is that different inks have different flow rates. So you might have an easier time with a “ drier” ink. Another idea would be to restrict the amount of air flow to the feeding system. Brush pens, like fountain pens, need to replace the ink that they’re expending with air for the flow to be continuous. So if you look, there should be tiny circular holes in the grip section close to the brush portion of the pen. If you were to cover the hole with masking tape and then use a pin to poke a hole in it where the original hole is, you might be able to, in effect, create a smaller hole. This would in theory slow the flow of ink. Might be worth a shot.

    • @SiyaOum
      @SiyaOum  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What you're saying is true, by way of me doing those things. I just haven't had the time to perfect it, with the different combinations. I have about five brush pens, and I need to revisit it, maybe this weekend. I'll report back! Thanks so much!

    • @billcrabtree8700
      @billcrabtree8700 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SiyaOum cool! One more thing you can try if you’re feeling adventurous is disassembling the pen section near where the brush protrudes. It’s a separate piece that can come off fairly easily. Then, remove the brush tip itself to reveal a felt feeder. Reposition the felt so that it doesn’t go as far into the brush. This should also have the effect of reducing the ink flow.

    • @billcrabtree8700
      @billcrabtree8700 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, one more thing! There’s a brush pen that actually uses weasel hair, called Keimei. There’s a black pocket version of this pen on Amazon right now for only $20. It’s an absolute steal.

    Hi. Glad I found your channel. I was wondering if you would do a basic step-by-step video on using copic or watercolor for accents and how you go about doing it. I’m very comfortable drawing and inking but color is not very intuitive for me. I’ve tried oil, acrylic, copic, gouache etc but I don’t want to be a painter. I’d rather let the ink or pencil show through and be the primary medium but want to add color accents that will leave a professional look.

    • @SiyaOum
      @SiyaOum  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for asking, Louis! I don't have any videos specifically aimed at that. Although, I have this one, which is a mixture of watercolor, ink, and Copics: th-cam.com/video/8R-Zh2jsFTQ/w-d-xo.html
      The fact that you are only using them as accents, I think it just comes down to how easy it is to mix, and the translucency you are going for. Common accents are gouache, Copics, and water color. It seems like you've already dabbled with those.

    • @louisklein9207
      @louisklein9207 ปีที่แล้ว

      TY for responding. I have dabbled in those but my problem is it has turned out to be more of an exercise in painting. What I’m wanting to learn is how to use them as accents so it doesn’t turn into a painting
