    I believe we all share your frustration with lens hoods. I finally swore them off entirely. My solution - bear with me because this gets a little weird - is to discard both the cap and the lens hood. In their place install a screw-in metal lens hood of the appropriate type and a press-on rubber/plastic cap. Both the hood and the cap are available on-line from an array of sources, are essentally available in whatever size you need (in 1mm increments) and are quite inexpensive. I made this transition years ago and have never looked back. Whenever I buy anything that includes a press-on plastic cap I keep the cap and now have a box full.

    I've bought this lens while watching your video after I got a bad (decentered) copy of the 14mm f/2.5and and after 2 days of using it I can say it's an excellent sharp lens. Only the vigneting wide open is terrible, but gives a vintage look which i kinda like. The starbursts also give a nice effect when sopped down. It is all in all a much sharper and better lens than the kit lens and fits nicely to my set of 25mm, 45mm and a telephoto zoom 45-175mm.

    This is a nice option but I think for 17mm there are better ones with AF, as you mentioned. A couple of months back I was lucky and found the Olympus 17mm F1.8 on sale brand new at just 260 USD equiv. I am very happy with it, the clutch manual focus ring is a fun option. It works flawlessly on my GX80. It is well built, looks good too :-) With M43 we are spoilt for choice, you cant really go wrong with any of these lenses.

    Lumix question: I have two Lumix cameras. G9 and the FZ2500. With both cameras set to 3:2 aspect ratio, and fine jpg, they produce two different size images. G9: 5184x3456 and the FZ2500: 5472x3648. Since both have 20mp sensors, what is going on here?

    • @mattisulanto
      @mattisulanto  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The sensor in the FZ2500 has native 3:2 aspect ratio and the G9 has 4:3, so the FZ2500 has no crop at 3:2.

    I've got a question when using these manual focus lens on GX9. I find that there's no way to change Exposure Compensation from Q menu or by any button in M mode, only when I change to A mode, and from there I could change EC. How do you resolve this problem when using MF lens?

    • @mattisulanto
      @mattisulanto  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to use auto ISO on M to be able to use exposure compensation.

    • @jianfeiwang1654
      @jianfeiwang1654 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mattisulanto Yes, I am aware that pre-condition when I mount a native lens on GX9. My question is regard to non-native lens, for example, this Laowa that you use. Do you find a way to use EC on M when mount Laowa on the Panasonic body?

    • @mattisulanto
      @mattisulanto  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a manual mode and exposure compensation does not work. If you want to under or over expose, you have to manually adjust shutter or aperture accordingly. However, if you use auto ISO, it’s no longer a manual mode and you can use exposure compensation. So, use auto ISO and you can use exposure compensation.

    • @jianfeiwang1654
      @jianfeiwang1654 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mattisulanto I get your point. However, I also asked the same question on dpreview, a G9 user confirms that there is different behavior between G9 and GX9 regard to this functionality (www.dpreview.com/forums/post/64537342 ), and simply on G9 auto iso and ec works as expected with manual focus lens, but not the case for GX9. Thanks anyway for your reply.

    • @angeldulevski3358
      @angeldulevski3358 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jianfeiwang1654I think he means that by having a fixed ISO number by using the Manual Mode you lose the ability to compensate, because there are no aspects that the camera could compensate with, as your aperiture number is mechanicaly actuated by your hand. So the only way to to change the exposure in that mode would be by changing the exposure time or switching to auto ISO.

    Which correction of geometry on pictures did you use? Btw. comparation with oly 17 did not make sence ... Oly and also panl 15 have aggresive correction (field of view is wider than 15/17 and the picture is cropped, the geometry in edges can be corrected). This laowa has no crop, no correction - so the edges are softer, but resolution is higher (just in theory :-)). I can just confirm that the resolution in center is better than on 17 mm pan 12-32 (but edges are worse)

    • @mattisulanto
      @mattisulanto  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did not correct any distortions. Any comparison may or may not make sense, depending on who is looking. All those lenses take pictures and therefore, in my opinion, they can be compared. But I accept, that someone may think otherwise.

    Is this best for street photography, because it doesn't have AF?

    • @mattisulanto
      @mattisulanto  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, it all depends what you mean by street photography.
      The traditional street photography is often done at stopped down aperture to have lots of depth of field and therefore AF is not necessary. You set the lens at the hyperfocal distance that covers everything from about 2 m to infinity and you don't have to touch the focus after that. It's even faster than AF, because the lens is prefocused.
