    Awesome! I was a college freshman in 1972 and had already flown many times by then. Ahhh, the sound of REAL jets and their SMOKE!! I loved the ending....seeing that AA 707 Astrojet trying to "merge" onto the taxiway with an oncoming UA 727 Mainliner (looked like they were going to hit)!

    That was a blast to the past! I flew into and out of all of those airports beginning in the late 60’s but fondly remember taking a Hughes Airwest DC-9 from LAX into PSP in the 70’s as a kid using the same gate pictured. As chance would have it as an adult I ended up working as a United Airlines Service Director and Gate Agent at PSP working gates #1 and #2 right next to the one shown. Fond memories indeed! Thanks for sharing the video!

    At 2:26, the cashier at the airport shop is counting change and no one was wearing a digital watch. Amazing. Thank-you for sharing!

    Very nice memories of flying in and out of Lindbergh, LAX and SFO during my Navy years in the last half of the 1960's. When I was outbound, it was always to MKC and I was a happy sailor. Inbound flights-not so happy. I don't recall the jets smoking quite as much as seen in this film, but do remember seeing the dark cloud of jet smoke over busy airports on calmer days.

    I believe the location showing the United 737, tower view with Gulfstream taking off is Bakersfield, KBFL. Its the old terminal/tower complex. Great memories of that terminal.

    The first 747 I saw was a Continental at LAX, and it may just have been the one being pushed back on that exact day. Probably not, but one never really knows.

    As a kid circa 1971 visited Airport could smell the kerosene as we drove into the car park, today aircraft are less polluting

  • @gssheriff7278
    @gssheriff7278 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    No pollution control back then. Much simpler except you could walk onto an airplane with a gun, knife or anything.

      Some jet engines back then used a water injection process at take off, which produced a "smokey" exhaust.

    • @LoganLavery
      @LoganLavery 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right, but it's not as bad as you think. It was more to do with some of them cooling the engines by using a water injection process at take off.

    The cargo handling looks so inefficient and I'm surprised to see it sometimes still goes like that in the US. Is it because of the unions protecting jobs?
