Walking Tour: Centro storico di Messina, Sicilia

Messina is the gateway to Sicily, it can be easily explored on foot. On a beautiful sunny day, you can see the coast of Calabria so close you could almost touch it. The Greeks used to call this corner of land Zancle “sickle”. And if you’re wondering why this name, just take a look at its natural harbour.

C e ben poco da vedere nel centro soprattutto rapportato ad altre città come Catania Palermo o Siracusa purtroppo il terremoto di inizio secolo scorso ha distrutto tutto il patrimonio architettonico

Sai perché ti sbagli , perché purtroppo è poco pubblicizzata, a Messina c' è una tomba greca del 4 secolo a.c. un museo con 2 Caravaggio e diversi Antonello da Messina che se non lo sapessi è uno dei maggiori pittori del mondo. A torre faro c' è il mitico Cariddi dello stretto di Scilla e Cariddi di Omero. C' è la Chiesa dei catalani XII secolo la Chiesa Santa Maria alemanna XIII secolo. Da Messina partì e torno la flotta della battaglia di Lepanto , partì una crociata. La facciata del duomo è originale e di epoca normanna la fontana del duomo e la fontana di Nettuno sono del Montorsoli allievo del Michelangelo .Messina è piena di reperti greci ed il suo museo pullula di questi ...
