I do feel the need to mention that that second strike on Snake Island. It is a tb2 drone that is Imaging the strike, but the strike was carried out by manned Sukhoi 27 aircraft. Based on the Moskva's maintenance report made a few days before the war most of her weapon systems didn't work. The close range CWIS only 2 of 8 were working, the other 6 had been partially cannibalized for parts. The 120mm cannon's hydraulics were malfunctioning so she couldn't use it in an air defense roll. The radar was usually disabled to prevent it from interfering with communications. The fire fighting equipment was locked away and only the admiral could unlock it to prevent theft.
So, when Russia said the Moskva suffered a fire due to something like a magazine explosion... that was probably what they thought happened, because without the radar being on they wouldn't have even seen any incoming missiles and if they did have it on their defensive layers might have not been able to have worked. I think only the S400 missiles were the only thing that worked on the ship.
Russia deployed this ship, knowing full well it was ill prepared to defend itself because, "Sink the Moskva? Next you're going to tell me Vodka isn't food!"

Nyet ship is fine, has Moscow in name, men will make up for systems not in working order... They probably broke from having capitalist imperialistic thoughts and had to be shot by the political officers! (Then sold for parts on the black market 🤣) Although even with 80-90% of the systems being operational I wonder if the two missiles wouldn't have impacted... listening to the radio calls and seeing the newest video they were VERY low and FAST... I doubt they even had the CIWIS systems on auto fire at that point of having no contact for months... It's all 80's-90's manually controlled auto systems... Like the kind the US Navy accidentally had engage it's own ships during the Gulf War 🤦‍♂️ There are pretty good videos/stories/pictures of these accounts online, even pictures of a depleted uranium 20mm hole punched into one of the Iowa class battleships 😄 Missouri maybe? That being said grandpa walked in on this video about ten mins in. He told me that during Vietnam he saw some amazing heroism from unlikely people the civilians that were just trying to survive. A maintanence report on the Moskva from 14 days before the invasion was apparently leaked a short while ago.
This report helps explain how this supposedly extremely advanced ship was sunk by Ukrainian missiles.
    - 1 of 6 of the anti-missile CIWS systems worked
    - 0 of the short-range sea to air missiles worked
    - S-300 anti-air missile systems did work, however their radar interfered with communication systems and was turned off. Even if it was turned on, it reportedly had difficulty locking on to targets anyway.
    - the twin-link 130mm cannon on the front of the ship, did not work.
    - Almost all damage control systems did not work
    - Some water-tight doors were found to be leaking
    - Out of 500 fire extinguishers that should've been on board, it had 50.
    - Due to theft concerns, all safety equipment was locked in storage and only the admiral had the key.
    - Several engines were past the service replacement date by reportedly thousands of hours
    - The engine problems caused the ship to only be able to travel at about half speed, in an emergency
The ship was given a "satisfactory" rating.
If this is true, it clearly explains why Ukraine was able to use just a couple missiles to penetrate the supposedly invulnerable 3-tier anti missile system

You also missed some of the best bits. The damage control equipment was being kept locked up with only the admiral aboard having the key, BECAUSE PEOPLE KEPT STEALING AND SELLING THE DAMAGE CONTROL EQUIPMENT. Excellent video! For a follow up, you might want to look at the long history of Chornobaivka in the Kherson region of Ukraine. Chornobaivka is a small village that hosts the regiomal airport, which has a massive flat expanse of concrete. The Russians decided it would be a perfect helicopter base, and placed a couple of squadrons of attack helicopters to take advantage of it. Ukrainians were within artillery range, and destroyed a couple of squadrons of helicopters. next, not long after that, a Russian general decided that it would be a terrific site for his new headquarters, and established it there. Ukrainians waited politely, then fired again, killing two generals and the and Terry headquarters staff.Shortly after that, another two dozen helicopters were placed there. Ukrainian artillery fired again, and they were no more. Since March, Ukrainian artillery is targeted the base at least 45 more times, with varying degrees of success. Something like a bowling alley. Unfortunately, Ukraine is on the verge of retaking Chornobaivka and the saga is coming to an end.

And a tribute of the extremely heroic acts of defiance of the Ukrainian troops who were originally tasked to guard it... And they lost their lives in the process... The admiration of these few brave/dedicated troops , is regarded my many in the Ukraine and by their family of supporters to be an incredibly selfless act to sacrifice their lives for the good of those who repel tyranny....This is Bravery...

The recently release maintenance report lets us know that only one of the CIWS was operational while none of the other missile defense systems were operational. Add to that the fact that the emergency gear was under lock and key to prevent theft and many of the watertight doors were either leaking or propped open. The ship was barely sea worthy and yet was signed off on as perfectly fine by the Admiral.

Ever since the Snake Island radio transmission went viral I have wondered how many great moments like this in history where lost prior to the digital age and social media. This is gonna be remembered pretty much forever unless there is some kind of "great fall" of humanity where we lose all records, where events like this happening in past wars and conflicts have often been lost to time unless they were attributed to a key figure who may or may not have said it like Pliny the Elder coining "Fortune favours the bold" before attempting and failing to reach the Harbour at Pompeii while Vesuvius was erupting.

If you mean the Fortune favours the bold I would direct you to I preceded the example with "may or may not have said" acknowledging historical errors. That was kind of the point of using that example... there is no way to know for sure Pliny the Elder said that someone could have just claimed he said it to make the phrase stick better by tying it to a famous figure. Had Pliny not said that or the person that came up with it not attributed it to Pliny that phrase may not be in common use more than 2000 years after its alleged origins.

I love you how explain (without explaining) that propoganda doesn't have to be a dirty word - that it can be a very positive force in warfare for the side with the clear moral high ground. Some people treated legends like the Ghost of Kyiv as some kind of lie they were angry and disgusted with, when if they had grown up in a different time where people had more faith in leaders and institutions, they would be more supportive of the power of mythology.

    • @MaxwellAerialPhotography

@@writingref interviews of military personnel during wartime is also propaganda as anyone with knowledge of military public affairs units is aware. From an economic standpoint, one big advantage of drones like the TB2 is that many of these systems are *cheaper than the missiles capable of shooting them down* while being powerful enough to blow up the whole launch system if they don't shoot. Which means either way, you're getting a net positive in the comparison of your war chests. Gone are the days where the thing you're shooting at with your multi million dollar SAM system is always a multi tens of millions dollar fighter jet.
Russia's currently fielding some drones that cost somewhere in the ballpark of 20 000...which is so much cheaper than the missiles needed to shoot them down that it's kinda astonishing.

  • @steel8231

The Moskva was in such a sad state of maintenance that most navies would have scrapped it. It could barely go half speed, most of its watertight compartments weren't watertight, only 1/3 of its defenses were even partially functional and that one was 1/6 operational. It's radar shorted out its communications if they were both turned on at the same time. Not even the climate control worked. But it was a RUSSIAN warship manned by RUSSIANS so there's no way the "inferior" Ukrainians (who built the damn thing 40 years ago) could POSSIBLY harm it. The parallels between modern Russian and 1930s German military command ideologies are pretty similar.
