I always mix an amount of sand in my paint when i want texture. I keep it in jars marked with where in the world it was collected, then note it on the back of the canvas to add a little interest.

You can but with baking soda it’ll keep the paint mixable to a degree even after it’s dried, so that could be a problem. When it’s dried and you rub it with your fingers you can feel the residue on your fingers. When I put some white on a dried blue it mixed, and I had needed a pure white on top but you’re not going to get that.
